If Nylanders gone
Carolina fans probably want more out of that trade but it seems decent on the outside. Just not sure the Canes have interest in a guy that will need a new contract next year unless they sort out Aho first.
Need to solve the Murray problem, can't just put him on Robidas Island.

I think the Leafs would be better off signing Bailey than paying up for Laughton.</div></div>
Laughton is a guy. There's lots of guys that can play on the third line. Giving up high draft picks for this particular one is silly. Guaranteed he's not getting traded for that much. Bailey, Connor Brown, Lars Eller, Kerfoot, Connor Sheary. Laughton may be better than those guys but they don't cost a first and a third.

Leafs Pull Off 3 Way Deal With Sharks And Ducks Involving Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I guess the question would be, Do the Leafs prefer Nylander for one year and then have cap space instead next summer instead of a 9m Karllson for four years.
Same with Ducks, would they prefer keep Drysdale, the picks and have 9m in cap instead of 9m Nylander.
Is it just me, but is 9.5m X 8 Nylander a good deal for a player starting that contract at age 28.?</div></div>
With how hard it is to move salary in the NHL right now I bet Nylander stays. I realize you don't want to lose a guy like him for nothing, but if you resign Matthews and are able to give Nylander a respectable offer (and he still goes elsewhere) what do you do? At least you get the value of him this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Anaheim loses their future 1RD in this proposal, doesn't really make sense. If they want Nylander, they should be trading Terry for him. SJ is getting way too much for Karlsson.</div></div>
I agree. I don't think San Jose is getting that great of a return. And I'm not certain Nylander fits with Anaheim's timeline either (but good work on thinking outside the box).
I'll be honest, I hate this forward group. Lots of risk if Knies doesn't look great out of the gate and Brown has lost a step. You're going to end up with teams loading up against Matthews/Marner and that second line might not be able to make teams pay.
I see no reason to add Zadorov. You end up moving Brodie and Timmins to add him. Not good asset management.

And given that Kampf just got 4 yrs for 2.5mil and a NTC, but doesn;t play with as much leadership, "grit" and scores at least 10-15 pts less, its not outside the realm of possibility given the above two facts</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Yeah I want more for TK and for Laughton the Leafs trade isn’t great for the Flyers everything they have to offer stinks quite frankly lol</div></div>
I don't think the Leafs would even consider this deal. Laughton is a nice player for sure. He has some value, signed for a decent term at a decent cap hit. But he's a third line guy on a stanley cup team, at best he's the #6 forward in your top 6. You should not be giving up this many assets for him. No way. Look at what the deals have been over the past week, and how little teams have gotten for players. Moving money is hard and teams aren't going to overpay you to do it. You can find someone to do a similar job on the UFA market that might cost more, but is "free."
TLDR: Laughton is fine. Hard to move money and the Leafs won't overpay to add cap. Can find a comparable player as a UFA likely.

I have been very intrigued by the idea of playing Tavares with Marner/Matthews. I think they would balance each other really well. If you can find somebody who will play well with Nylander you're going to get a clear #1 line, a solid #2 line and probably a middling third line. Kind of the Boston model when they had Bergeron-Rat Boy- Pasta all together.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>You can't afford to buyout Murray</div></div>
You very much can. It's certainly not ideal but they also can't afford to attach high draft picks to move him. If they have some idea on what Matthews/Nylander extensions cost it's not a huge deal. I could see them retaining a bit on Murray to move him, but with the cap going up it isn't going to cripple them. (The Leafs are actually in a great spot with the cap right now, but ssshhhh don't tell people).

I disagree here. Look at every other trade that's happened in the NHL this offseason. Large cap hits are almost impossible to move, and Karlsson's is massive and for four more years. Even a bit of retention doesn't make that go away. I don't like the Leafs acquiring Karlsson because of what it does to their cap sheet, but I wouldn't want to give up a first to do it. MAYBE a prospect, and there would have to be money going back. Just the way it is in the NHL right now.

Not sure Gibson is a big enough upgrade over Samsonov TBH. Just more expensive and older.
That Philly trade is kind of meh. I like Laughton as a player, but Toronto can find a comparable middle-6 winger in UFA without giving up assets (yes I know you still need to move Murray).
If the Leafs get somebody like Henrique I think Tavares moves to the wing.

I'd love a Schiefele or Lindholm type. But they're valuable. Henrique I think the Ducks will still want an asset for (especially if you want retention which I am sure Toronto would). There's definitely a few candidates on expiring deals I could see them targeting.

Hanifin
There are two reasons Brodie is valuable. One is that he's really good at hockey. The best defensive d-man the Leafs have. Add somebody like Hanifin to help him and you suddenly have a pretty good looking group. I see no reason to dump him somewhere, this rumour is insane. The other reason is that he has a high salary that's expiring. You will need that space for next year to resign Matthews and Nylander. Adding multiple long-term UFA's bogs your cap down and makes it harder to do that. Bad idea.

I don't think Granlund is a bad player by any stretch. Toronto needs some centre depth and Pittsburgh needs options in goal. Each team trades a problem. I don't think it's a perfect scenario (Toronto might even ask Pittsburgh to add a draft pick) but it's a fun one to consider.

Leafs aren't trading Matthews. And certainly not within the division. And certainly not for a bunch of B and C level pieces. They would want quality, not just quantity (they also aren't rebuilding and don't want a bazillion draft picks)

Giving away assets to move Muzzin is puzzling since he can just go on LTIR. He might have value to somebody trying to reach the cap floor, but the Leafs aren't doing that move at all.
HELL NO DEANGELO!!!!
Connor Brown is a sneaky good signing in the middle-6. Great potential for a bounce back and lots of opportunity for him to come home and play with very skilled players.
Murray probably costs more to move

I'm not sure. I like Toffoli for sure, but I think the Leafs are going to be pretty hesitant to deal that first rounder considering they don't have much draft capital outside of it. I don't think the value is completely off, but I'm just not sure Toffoli is a slam dunk fit for the Leafs. He's got a great shot, but the Leafs have two high calibre, high volume shooters in Matthews and Nylander. Tavares handles net stuff on the powerplay. I'm just not sure his skill set fits in for the Leafs. Lindholm is a much better fit for Toronto

Retaining on Murray is definitely an option, not a great one but it's there. Unfortunately, there's not much difference between this retention and burying him in the minors, at least, not enough to give away anything substantial.
Graves I'm not sure is worth that and Rodrigues is scary as a 2C.

Leafs are better with Nylander/Samsonov than Laughton/Hart. Draft picks aren't as important as icing the best roster possible.
Not to mention the nasty overpayment of Barbashev.
I also don't think Nylander has any real value to Philly since he's unlikely to stay there.
