All-Overrated
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mike_Gartner</b></div><div>what is the metric to determine if someone is overrated or not?

Subjective... some are overrated because they don't live up to their contract, others because they don't live up to the hype or their reputation. For example, Ryan Reaves was talked about as an important piece for VGK when he does almost nothing except fighting.
Harder than it looks though

Heiskanen would get much more praise if he played in a bigger market... miles ahead of Hughes defensively but it's easier to look at points when you don't watch him play

Not really, since Lehkonen can be a serviceable 3rd liner / pk guy, and Kulak can play anywhere in the top-6. Although yeah, maybe the value is off and i thought adding a good prospect like Jayden Struble might make it more fair? If not what would it take?

Funny how you consider Meier "elite" and Gallagher "really good" when they're pretty much the same caliber of player. I'm not saying it's fair, i'm saying it would be the ask because there's no way MB trades Gally without obtaining a top-6 LW to balance the offense. He could agree to a contract, MB could add a prospect/pick, whatever... that would be the ask

Keep in mind, the playinns/playoffs was a tiny sample size, but more importantly, the time off benefitted them massively.</div></div>
yeah, thats the thing: I don't want to win this year, nor do i think it is realistic to try to win with this roster. At some point Suzuki and KK will have to take the reins of this team and they wouldn't be the first to have success doing it (see Pettersson and Horvat in vancouver). With Koivu who can shelter them defensively while they play with the team's best wingers... i think they could really improve this year

I get your points although Tatar is a way better player than Nino (regular season at least). There was talk of Carolina wanting to dump Nino's contract for next to nothing... just thought they could acquire a good top-6 option at the same time! Would they prefer to get rid of Dzingle?

Unfortunately I don't think habs acquire a 1RW for Danault straight up... and personally I think it's better value to trade him for futures (already having stastny as 3C). I'd rather bet on Vesalainen becoming a 2LW + having a pick around 20 than trading for a 50pt 2nd line winger.

That's only 750K more for a player who has proven he is more consistent than Tuch and would certainly perform up to his 18-19 season playing with Patch and Stone or Marchessault and Smith... not so sure about Tuch being the best player in there. Might not work but value wise it's pretty close.

You can say that's not enough, but you should read correctly before commenting, as it's stated that Danault would have an extension in place... and he could EASILY be a 2nd line center.

Fair enough, although Miro only has to sign for the 21-22 season. I thought that Dallas might want to maximize their current window by adding to their forward group, as they could use some extra offence and they are pretty thin on LW. I know Robertson has a lot of potential but it will take at least 2-3 years before he's as good as Tatar, and by then Dallas probably isn't a contender anymore.

Exactly. The new CBA prevents signing conditions (i.e. added picks if a player does or doesn't sign) but it doesn't prevent a team (let's say NYR) to negotiate with Danault's agent before the trade to make sure they can find a reasonable contract. Worst case, they can sign Danault to a contract that fits NYR's demands and trade him immediately.

So Danault has less value because he's supposedly a rental, but NYR proceeds to sign him immediately after? Don't you think Bergevin might have the other team discuss with his agent BEFORE the trade to ensure maximum value... (see Max Pacioretty)

Going for playoff success - Meier to MTL
I'd say Danault and Meier are close in value, however based on Danault's contract situation i'd probably add at least a second, or Poehling. I think Bergevin would much rather add a second+ or Poehling rather than give up 16th since we need quality more than quantity in prospects. How likely is it that Meier is traded according to you?

6 years of Tuch at under 5M AAV ???</div></div>
Yes it's a great contract if he plays like he has in the playoffs. However if you look at his stats in the last 3 seasons, is he really worth 5M right now? I'd say it's a similar situation with Domi. If he signs for 5.5M, which is what he is worth right now, he would become a bargain if he plays up to his skill level (see last season). The package you described is much more fitting of a base for a Laine trade than a Tuch trade.

What would you want MTL to add? Poehling or Mete? A 2nd? I just don't think that Meier's value is THAT far off Domi's since he's also had only one very good season, is pretty much the same age and should have a similar contract.
