His spot can be JG’s maybe as early as this summer. I’m all in on bringing Gusev here on the cheap though. It makes stupidly good sense and I bet he’d consider it now that he’ll have more limited options compared to his last venture in FA, and that Kaprizov kid might help too..</div></div>
Next year is the year of the prove it deal for a top 6 winger in MIN.

Gusev at 2 mil would be a no brainer, especially on a short term deal. You should probably pencil in Boldy as the 2/3 line LW.

Suter, Spurgeon, Dumba, Brodin
Kahkonen
And there's a possibility, however small, that Parise may waive allowing us to keep Foligno or Greenway.

Schmaltz 4 Dumba
I think the "fairness" of this deal is driven by the perception that Dumba is an underperforming offensive defenseman that is slightly overpaid, which the analytics don't support since his return in the bubble. Schmaltz is a winger masquerading at C and IS overpaid on a long term deal. I'm willing to listen to Schmaltz being a comparable level player, even if I disagree, but the Wild need to shed his cap hit with any trade.

Schmaltz 4 Dumba
I think this deal makes sense for both teams in the offseason but before the expansion draft. But I wonder if Guerin would be trying to get more for Dumba, and I don't see why Arizona would add. This also assumes Guerin likes Schmaltz, which, who knows. But on paper this is good for both teams.

Wild Bill deals with the All-in Teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>That return for Dumba looks light.</div></div>
It is most likely a late 1st and 3rd, but with BG signing Brodin and waiting until now... other teams know they have him over a barrel with the expansion draft. With guys like Eek, Greenway and Foligno having career years, he is going to want to protect 7 forwards and the only way to do that is to trade Dumba or figure out someway to convince Suter to wave his NMC (which is about the same percentage of the Wild winning the cup LAST year... zero). Besides, the 2022 draft is deeper and continues to give assets to Judd to add prospects.

Maybe losing Dumba 21-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nicetiety</b></div><div>Completely see your reasoning. Some will disagree but I think it’s actually a perfect match for us to expose him and I personally think Seattle would be all over it. True his aav isn’t attractive for a new team’s cap, but how many other high aav players will they be taking? My guess is not a lot. Vegas I know had Fleury as their highest paid pick.
Anyways if I’m Guerin I’m thinking about shedding that 6m to pay for the Kaprizov/Ek/Fiala/Greenway/Kaapo extensions. Also Guerin has done a great job protecting his assets values by publicly saying along the lines of that he’s in no rush to trade Dumba and that he’s a big part of our team. Which is true to a degree. And real important that he wants the guy that he traded for in Addison to get real ice time because he looks pretty damn close to being ready.
If I’m Seattle though I personally think Dumba is exactly who I’d want on my expansion team. His play can be electric at times, he covers an offensive RHD spot that is tough to find, and he’s overall a great guy who’d potentially be one of the faces of the team</div></div>
He’d absolutely be a guy they’d love to have. My thoughts are that I’m not willing to give Dumba away for free. If Seattle wants to trade for him, sure. There will be teams that would like to add him in the off-season and that means something comes back. Just no reason to let him go for free over a 3rd liner or a mid pair defender when you have to make that choice.

I think it’s very unlikely he’s exposed to Seattle. He’s got an inconvenient cap hit but he’s still as top pair defenseman and that has value. If the choice is losing Greenway/Soucy or Dumba, you help Greenway/Soucy pack.
PS: I think Gusev is a good fit too.

I doubt we can get Pesce for just Zucker, he's on a steal of a contract for 5 more years and is a pretty solid RD. I think we could get Faulk + if Carolina wanted him, though... Might be a better idea to just let Zaitsev play with Brodin (he's really a decent 2nd pairing defenseman when his partner isn't basically a 4th forward) and move Zucker for picks/prospects. Otherwise maybe move him to Calgary and pry one of their LD prospects from them.
Edit: also I grow more and more puzzled by the day about why Fenton didn't move Staal to Boston for a 1st and a player. Ideally you put Nylander at center and have Eriksson Ek at center as well, but now with this trade one of them will be forced to the wing. I'd probably go Nylander at center since he seems to play really well there, plus his ceiling is higher than JEE's

Zucker 19 20
I'd use him at the draft to trade up into the top 5 (assuming we land 10/11OA). Teams like Vancouver, Buffalo, Anaheim, even LA or NJ could be teams looking for speedy wingers and I think all of them might be open to trading their pick if there's a guy we're in love with that's available. Ideally we win the lottery, but I'm not holding my breath. Another option could be moving Zucker for a later 1st to get two prospects in the first round. I'm a massive fan of Phil Tomasino who projects to go early 20's and I'd be very happy moving Zucker to select him. We have to hit on prospects this year since I don't want to waste any of the years we have with Kaprizov. That means the more picks (or better picks) this year, the better.
Missed the Russo bit this morning since I had a class, but I'm listening to it now. I'd be happy with a long-term deal with a lower cap hit for Fiala. He's easily the most skilled player on our team, he just needs to quit coughing up pucks in his own zone and try to pick corners rather than stuff the puck into the goalies chest. If he can figure that out, he'll be a 30 goal guy easy.
I think Hunt is a must to re-sign as our 7th D. Move Pateryn, we need a spot for Belpedio. Bitetto and Aberg need to go. I'm fine moving Spurgeon if we get an offer for a high pick or a great center prospect/roster player. Otherwise I'm with you, it's insane how good the guy is.

Karlsson would be awesome but you know every team will be after him this summer.</div></div>
Same, he's a 'Sconnie boy so the Wild would probably be an appealing destination. I think wing is an option for him if we moved Zucker and put Fiala or Donato at LW.
Yep he'll be a hot ticket, but we'll have tons of cap space if we really want him. Other than Panarin (who definitely isn't signing here), Karlsson and Pavelski are the only two bigger names I hope we go after.

I'm glad somebody else is on the Pavelski hype train. Russo has said he is not happy that San Jose hasn't offered him an extension yet. He'd be a great middle 6 addition if we could sign him for a short deal with decent cap such as the one you have. My only concern would be where Koivu fits in once he's healthy. There isn't much room for him on the roster unless we move Eriksson Ek, which probably isn't smart.
Alternatively, I've been hopping on the Erik Karlsson hype train as well. He'd be expensive, but our D core would be among the best in the league with him and we could move Spurgeon for a nice return. I think Karlsson paired with Brodin would be fantastic, especially since Karlsson seems to wear down on the top pairing.
Edit: as for Rask, I'm not sure anybody wants him to be honest. Maybe Ottawa would so they can hit the cap floor, but they probably aren't going to give up much for him.

How awesome would Kapanen be on our team next year? That's who I really want right now as a replacement for him/Aberg</div></div>
Zucker kind of has been tearing it up, he has 3g/5p in his past 5 games. Im sure Fenton is happy his trade value is starting to rise!
I'd love Kapanen. He's exactly what we need: speedy right shot winger that has a shoot-first mentality. I'd prefer Nylander from the Leafs since he can play center, but Kapanen would be a great get. I don't think the Leafs would trade him, though.

Agreed on Fiala and Parise. What is bothering me right now is our load of LW's playing on the right - I just want Fiala/JG/Zucker to be comfortable with wherever their playing. I'm actually really impressed with the skill Fiala has shown so far. Yeah, preds fans gave him a tough time for not capitalizing on all of those chances, but man, if he learns to capitalize, he could be insanely good. The talent is obviously there.</div></div>
Agreed. I really like Fiala and I do think he has the ability to put it all together, he's an incredibly exciting player. His shot is pretty unreal when he gets it of, too.
The LW thing has been an issue for us for so long. Just look at Nino, he was forced to play RW and we didn't have room for him on the roster. It's a tough situation and I think Zucker will likely be traded this offseason because of it.

Aberg is one of the most mixed bag players I think I've ever watched. There are times he makes amazing plays in the offensive zone and on the PP, but there are other times where he just stands around like a pylon. It's unfortunate because he has a lot of skill, such a waste of talent.
I really liked Fiala with Parise. I thought those two complement each other nicely since Fiala generates tons of grade A chances and Zach can bang away or deflect the puck for some greasy goals. Ideally we'd see Fiala capitalizing on those chances, but until then Zach can clean them up nicely.

Not that I wouldn't want him on the team, but Tyler Myers is an awfully expensive 3rd pairing d-man. If you (the Wild) go after him, they would definitely have to move Spurgeon.

If not in playoff bubble at tdl - WPG MTL CAR
the Staal trade is very realistic. WIN needs another center to go all the way. Their 1st round would be ranked around 25-31 so has not to much value.
Montreal would do this deal in a heartbeat. Juulsen is going to be a a good DD but there is others RD in the pipeline and Coyle would become our 1st line RW de facto. I think Bergevin would give up 2nd round for a 26 yo player with a year left.
In reality, MIN wont do any of this, stay an average team and get out in the first round.

Next Season - Few Moves
I made the Toronto suggestion based on the rumour that the Leafs are interested in Jeff Skinner (I'd much prefer Zucker over Skinner cause he under control longer at only $5.5M) but an important note for this move, I mentioned Toronto would only make something like this if they could find another dman to replace Zaitsev like a TVR, or Pesce from Carolina or someone else. But mainly if the Leafs are looking to add to their offence as reported, I'd prefer a two way winger thats under team control that already has a 30 goal season, and could put up more on a line with Matthews and Nylander. So don't rip this guy apart too much for the idea
