New Jersey Devils signed Nikita Gusev (2 Years / $4,500,000 AAV)
Panarin's last 3 years in the KHL - 148 GP 57 G 120 pts, 38 playoff games 7 goals 29 points
Gusev's last 3 years in the KHL - 173 GP 63 G 215 pts, 51 playoff games 23 goals 53 pts
Both wingers, virtually the same size, Gusev is 9 months younger but many of the "experts" here are sure Gusev will be a bust while Panarin is an All Star and makes $11.6M............ok

Colorado Avalanche signed Samuel Girard (7 Years / $5,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>His contract is a steal. Parayko was 5.5M for 4 Years, and to see Girard get 5M for 7 Years to me is preposterous. Girard could have taken way more money.</div></div>
On what planet is Girard comparable to Parayko ?
Parayko plays almost 23 minutes a night, plays PK, had more hits last year than Girard has in his 2 year career, Parayko has positive possession numbers despite less than 49% offensive zone starts vs Girard's negative numbers with 55% offensive zone starts. I could go on but the bottom line is that there is no stat whereby Girard is even close to Parayko.
You want a Girard comp ?
First 2 years
Player 1 - GP - 139 PPG - .25 TOI -19:24 Hits - 162 Blk - 141 RelCorsi +1.4 OZone starts - 49.9%
Player 2 - GP - 155 PPG - .30 TOI - 18:50 Hits - 108 Blk - 153 RelCorsi -0.6 OZone starts - 55.5%
Player 2 is Girard, Player 1 is Troy Stetcher, who had an even better 3rd season and makes $2.325M

This is the new NHL $5M*7 for potential.
Girard still hasn't proven he's more than a 2nd pairing guy, his possession stats are below average despite high offensive zone starts, he doesn't hit, he had more giveaways than any D other than Cole and tied for 68th among Dmen scoring overall & 89th among NHL D in even strength scoring. There is a decent chance he becomes a left handed Tyson Barrie but just as much of a chance he becomes a left handed Troy Stetcher, though actually Stetcher has better possession numbers and hits more.
I'm not saying this is a bad signing but I wouldn't be high fiving either were I a Colorado fan

Can somebody explain the Colin Miller trade to me ?
I don't follow the Sabres closely enough to understand why a team that already had Ristolainen, Bogosian & Montour on the right side would take on $3.875M a year for 3 years to add Miller

Patrik Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Braah</b></div><div>Who then lol?</div></div>
Of the big name RFAs available I would much rather have Point, Rantanen, Marner or Tkachuk in fact I would be tempted to go with Werenski & McAvoy as well.
Laine is a defensive liability, a poor possession driver and primarily a pp specialist offensively , he tied for 205th in even strength scoring last year and he's not even in the top 60 in the league in 5*5 since he started. Personally that's not the guy I trade away some good prospects and a couple of 1sts for & then write him an $8M+ check annually

Not to Winnipeg he isn't, they aren't going to add a $4.8M cap hit for a soon to be 29 year old winger with two 50 point seasons in 6 years as an NHL regular. If they move Laine it signals a rebuild and Tatar is not someone a rebuilding team wants.

Hypothetical is fine but this goes way beyond that, if you're going to gut your future I'm not sure Patrick Laine is the hill you want to die on.

Also if Toronto didn't want Ceci they could have let him go to arbitration, after the Clarkson Toronto doesn't need the cap space.

Not a Jets fan but I can tell you right now there is no way Winnipeg makes that deal.
Mayfield is a 3rd pairing guy and Lorito is a 29 year old with 2 games in the NHL, in return for that you want Roslovic, a middle 6 forward with offensive upside, and a 21 year old Dman who just completed a solid first year as a pro.

He played a lot of minutes for a 2nd year player and put up 13 points on the PP, his advanced stats are a bit skewed by his heavy defensive zone starts, 57% career so far. He's definitely an NHLer the test is if he can produce in the top 4 in which case $3M is cheap and if not they've only committed for 2 years..
