If you are talking about the cap, Jets have almost 5M in deadline cap space. So it's fine.

Probably have to add to both those deals but the depth of this team is wild. Would definitely be the favourite for the cup.

Selling is the right thing for the future
Even though Konecny would be a great fit and that's not a terrible price, however, Rutger is untouchable at this point. I would say that both Lambert and Rutger are of the table in any trade. Rutger is the future captain and will probably get into the lineup at the end of the season.
I would suggest maybe a Lucius in the deal instead with an extra something or maybe a 1st instead of a 2nd.

What rental is getting a top prospect, 1st and 2nd. The answer is none.

Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>The Jets have no need to pay to move Schmidt. He's good defensive depth for this year and his cap hit doesn't hinder the Jets at all.
The Jets most likely just ride out Schmidt's contract, or buy him out if need be in the summer.</div></div>
I have to disagree.
Yes he is good depth, however, the Jets will need that cap space to make a trade at the TDL to boost the forward core and they still have Heinola, Chisholm, and Stanley (sadly) that can fill in with samberg on that bottom pair and iff they need to get a bottom pair RHD then Sean Walker is avalible in philly.
If a team offers this to WPG, they have to take it immediately. IMO this is too little to dump Schmidt. I fully believe it will cost near a first round pick in value to dump schmidt.

A 2nd and Lucius but calgary would probably get a better offer from a team that wants to re sign him... but the jets arent that team as we don't have the space to with the scheif and helle extensions.

Why would the Jets pay that much for a rental? Jets wont and cant extend him so no point in giving up a first and 2 top prospects.

So lets say Vilardi is just a short-term injury and they trade for garland. You are scratching Barron or Vladdy for Appleton?

Dump Schmidt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steven_Stamkos</b></div><div>For what reason would Winnipeg trade Schmidt</div></div>
They need the roster spot this year to play one of their young d and the cap space for next year to re-sign Scheifele and Hellebuyck or find replacements for those players.

DeMelo is what Tanev was for Hughes. An underrated complementary dman that can elevate a offensive dmans play. Ex. A: turned Morrissey from a 4/5D into a legit 1st pair dman.
Beau is probably worth a 2nd with retention however DeMelo at the TDL if the Jets aren't in a playoff spot can pull a 1st or at least a 2nd and B prospect. I think you are slightly undervaluing what DeMelo can do.

<strong>I just think he would be the type of player who isn't a first pair talent but could be a good fit to play with Morgan</strong>. At a cheap cap hit. There really aren't too many RD options that fit without major changes.</div></div>
You are 100% accurate. He isnt a top pair D but he is a great complement for an 'offensive dman' and can turn them into top pair D. He has turned Josh Morrissey from a 4/5D making over 6M for 8 years to a legit top pair D. DeMelo is one of the most underrated dmen in the league. He elevates his partner's game, and he would do just that with Rielly. Great on the PK and is just so sound defensively at 5v5. Plus he had a breakout year offensively. There is a lot to like about DeMelo and at the deadline, the Jets could easily get a 1st for him.

As a rental he would cost a 1st and top prospect... so the price has to at least be that but probably more. However the Jets want a young roster player in return so it could be a 1 for 1 for a comparable player.

He wont sign long term anywhere. He will either want a 1 year or a 3-5 year so he can get paid again when the cap goes up.

He is still a good player... just needs a change. You get a 60 point player at 4.125M for a 4th. Even on a 3rd line and PP he can provide some value, especially for only a 4th.
