Plausible roster.. I usually pick Scech or Cholo as the expansion casualty as well. I think Veleno stays up in Det and det takes a cap dump like Ericsson too but this is probably accurate.

the wings should eat a contract or two for some picks.

I don't think that Yzerman is going to part with the pick. Top 4 OA is a big deal. If you look at the EL Draft history the top four always have an almost immediate impact on the team that makes that pick. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/

The Wings see it as this: we’re a rebuilding team, so 3rd and 4th round picks aren’t for trade. Neal is a cap dump, and Puljujarvi isn’t enough for us to take him on. We’d need the 2020 1st that Edmonton isn’t going to trade, or more significant compensation. Just because we have the cap space doesn’t mean we need to do any teams favours, especially because there’s a line of other teams looking to dump bad contracts.

some player that the wings could go after with flat cap
If there is a condition on that 3rd rounder going Leafs way connected to performance which would turn it into a 2nd rounder if he scores xx points, I think Leafs should do it.

Helm at 50% has value of like a 3-4th at TDL. Neal is 3 more years at 5.75M so that’s a real tough pill to swallow. It would be much cheaper for them to dump Russell if that’s their goal but I don’t see how Neal doesn’t cost at minimum a first round pick and they are already missing their next two second rounders.

Glendening is worth more then a 4th round pick? If that's all we get for him he stays in Detroit. Other then that they're all fair realistic deals.

Yeah Detroit would have no issue taking Gagner back to make the cap work.

for a team thats not making the playoffs, is it really worth giving up athanasiou and picks for a guy who's gonna be a rental and leave you in the offseason? hall's said a numerous amount of times that he wants to play for a chance to win soon, and Detroit would certainly not be one of his top choices

I just don't know that its the right time for Detroit to go for a guy like hall. I still think they have some internal growth to do first i.e. they need another top5 pick or two at least and some time for their young guys develop before they look into FAs. Lafreniere or byfield would be a huge step forward, then I think they could use a top d and goalie prospect, let them develop 2-3 years, then they'll be looking good and they can look at FAs. Its gonna be real tough for them to rebuild and get back to the playoffs in the atlantic

Ya, the hall trade literally makes no sense and trading for him will not make the red wings a playoff team.

As a Wings fan I have to agree. Now I personally think Svechnikov for Puljujärvi value wise is pretty even and I'm probably in the minority there. I'm not sure I'd even make that trade. A couple of seasons ago Svechnikov had a great camp and pre-season but didn't get called up because Holland wasn't ready to admit the Wings need to start over. Then last offseason right before Svechnikov is going to get he shot he blows he tears his ACL and in out for the season. So basically he got screwed and then blows his knee out and he never complained and always had a smile on his face. His attitude was it's no problem I'm just going to work hard but I'm still going to make it. Then you have Puljujärvi who things aren't working out even though he has been given chance after chance playing 139 games over 3 season and now he has decided it not him its the team demands a trade. Since Edmonton hasn't traded him he has gone home until he gets his way.
if Svechnikov doesn't have a future with the Wings and has a chance to play for another NHL team I'm all for him being traded to a team where he can play because he deserves it.
