Still rebuilding
Sorry . . . a cap dump and two late firsts don't get you anywhere from 4 to 10 seasons of your new #1C.
Would you take Ryan Strome for that? You wouldn't even have to retain on the stiff.

2024 starting lineup
Moore -- Danault -- Arvidsson/Fiala has been our best and most consistent line since January 1, 2023 -- that's right, 2023, not 2024. Kings won't be breaking that combination up after a season and a half of excellence.
I'd rather have Talbot for $2.5 million with performance bonuses and Rittich for $1.25 million than Samsonov for $5 million and Nedeljkovic for $2 million. I don't think that anyone will give Samsonov much over $3 million (if any), and I'd much rather re-sign Viktor Arvidsson with the money saved.
No need to sign or play 33-year-old Tyler Pitlick with Alex Laferriere still on his near-League-minimum contract.

I dont know what they will do
If Marco Rossi is good enough to play #2C for St. Louis behind Robert Thomas, then he's good enough to play #2C behind Joel Eriksson Ek, so why would the Wild give him up? Rossi is coming into his own now, and the 16th overall selection in June isn't likely to produce a replacement until 2026.

MTL 2024-25
Trevor Zegras: 211 games: 55 goals, 99 assists = 154 points, -40
Cole Caufield: 205 games, 81 goals, 68 assists = 149 points, -39
Trevor Zegras, first 99 games: 26 goals, 48 assists = 74 points, -15
Juraj Slafkovsky, first 121 games: 24 goals, 36 assists = 60 points, -32
Caufield or Slafkovsky or both may eventually turn out to be clearly superior to Trevor Zegras. But right now, neither is.

Why do you think that we would trade our starting goaltender for a future third and an over-the-horizon second? Nobody has a gun to our heads. Never mind the fanciful 50% retention.
In general, teams won't trade you someone who's a roster player now for the possibility of having a roster player in 2028.

New GM
Our best guess is that Matt Roy gets at least $5 million and probably for 5 seasons.
Our cap situation precludes us from exchanging a youngster coming out of his ELC for a 33-year-old bottom-6 forward with a $2 million cap hit. We'd rather spend up to $2.5 million for up to four years on the younger and far more familiar Blake Lizotte if we can.

No chance that Matt Roy signs that low or that short and you can't have Phillip Danault back any more than we can give Pierre-Luc DuBois back to Winnipeg.

No, Troy Terry isn't available. He's a cornerstone member of our foreseeable-future top 6 along with LWs Cutter Gauthier and Trevor Zegras and Cs Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish.

Assume "Anaheim" means "Any Team" because the Ducks certainly wouldn't be interested in either of those players.

Easy decisions
Some interesting, outside-the-usual-box thinking here. I commend you for your imagination.
Personally, I'd re-sign RFAs Max Jones and Isac Lundestrom, but Stenlund is a nice idea. (If not re-signed, the RFAs have some modest trade value.) I'm not a fan of the Fowler-Pageau part of the Zegras deal, though.
I wouldn't be willing to commit to Jackson LaCombe that long-term just yet.
Bottom line: I think that all of these ideas have some merit. I don't think any of them can be rejected out of hand as unrealistic.

The only way I would alter any aspect of my esteemed friend's comment is to say I'd love to sign Pesce for two seasons but I'll take him for however long he wants, up to six.

Hunting for youth
If the Kings want to spend $3 million on a center to play behind Anze Kopitar, Phillip Danault and Pierre-Luc DuBois, they'll spend $2.5 million of it on four seasons of Blake Lizotte instead of two seasons of Scott Laughton and keep the first and the half million dollars.

Potentially seven to ten years of Trevor Zegras for one season of Travis Konecny?

2024 Flyers
Minnesota is going to give up their 23-year-old first-round selection who is expected to be their #2C for at least the next five years and is still on his ELC for a 30-year-old #3C with a $3 million cap hit next season? Not even if the condition on that Pittsburgh second eventuates.
Chicago and Utah tell you to take a hike, too. You think that the Stormin' Mormons are going to give you their best player for Joel Farabee and risk the Flyers regressing from 19th in the League to 23rd or worse?

All teams except Toronto decline.
You should know that actual Pens fans have uniformly offered Reilly Smith with 50% retention to other teams for a third-round draft pick.

Mighty Ducks of Anahaim 24-25
New Jersey's pick is tenth overall, which itself is worth more than the first (#17) and second (#43) for which the Canucks obtained Hronek last year, and you want us to add all that now that Hronek is due for a big raise?
I don't think so.
But the point is moot because New Jersey isn't trading us that pick for Frankie Vatrano even without the second.

Tarasenko is a nice idea for your team, and this overall strategy and the resulting roster looks good. My only thought is what about keeping your first line together and putting Tarasenko on the second line with Newhook and Dach?

Draft
Trevor Zegras isn't on the market despite Habs fans wishful fantasies. But if he were, here are the players Montreal has taken over the past 5 drafts with the draft picks comparable to the four in this offer:
Filip Mesar
Logan Mailloux
Jayden Struble
Mattias Norlinder/Riley Kidney/Oliver Kapanen
Do you think that those four youngsters are a reasonable return for Trevor Zegras?

Yes, you do, and No, they don't. Keller isn't on the market with the new owner's announcement that he wants the team to compete right away but even if he didn't, Keller had 76 points this season; your leading scorers had 59. Neither Jokiharju nor Savoie is a top-level elite talent and Arizona would want something more than a high first-round draft pick and some moderate-potential players for Keller.

I think that there's very little chance anyone is going to give you a second-round draft pick for Ilya Mikheyev. A fourth, maybe, but I doubt that it will be a team that has six LWs under team control for next season already.

trade up
The fly in this ointment is thinking that the Devils are going to give up the tenth overall pick in this year's draft (never mind plus a second that they don't even own right now) for Markstrom and a pick in the mid-twenties. And the Calgary pick could be eighth overall, depending upon what happens tonight.
Nine of the top 14 teams in the League are from the "weak Western Conference," and two more (plus potentially Seattle) finished ahead of the Flames this season.
