“Allows you to stop paying attention” how it in no way affects the way I watch hockey. What do you mean “think you know what you are talking about.” Tampa Colorado Vegas all headed by an analytics staff keep thinking that they don’t work. All successful teams use and have used analytics in there decision making. What makes you think stats don’t track puck retrieval, good dump ins and gap control. All of that is tracked as well. Well the eye test is useful and I love watching hockey. Stats only highten that enjoyment as you can see a players all around value. And where do you get the idea that Dougie is a bad d he’s great using both analytics and watching him.

Ah yes let’s believe a few hockey games over numbers that have been tracked for every second he’s on the ice. His Goals above replacmant are 5th among dman and his wins above replacement are 5th as well. He’s 3rd in expected offence and 23rd in expected defence. Hamilton has been the best defensemen in the league this past year and his numbers clearly prove it.

Dougie Hamilton was the best defensemen this year before he got injured. He had 13 goals above replacement in only 47 games. And ranked high in basically everything among defensemen. He is elite at driving play and creating quality chances. And on top of being one of the best offensive defensemen he is also very good at defense. Unlike others like John Carlson who only mirror him on the offensive side. Dougie could be justified as the best defensemen in the league. He gets points and his underlying numbers are great. If you don’t have him in your top 5 D u lackin.

Of Hoffman’s 59 points in 2019-20, 21 were on the powerplay. That’s 36%. Over 1/3. Take away the powerplay where most of his elite shooting comes from and he isn’t much good offensively. If you look at heat maps he literally shoots from the exact same spot every time.
