Opening night roster most likely situation 2
Could go 11-7. Leafs have enough C's to split the 4C shifts up. Give them a few extra shifts per game.
Timmins will be needed because Keefe needs to keep Gio fresh during the season so he can be effective in the playoffs.

We will see how it plays out. I would play him over Muzzin and Holl. But he has to earn it. All good teams have 7-8 good dmen. Someone has to sit from time to time.

No cap space - nothing during the draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>onion</b></div><div>Burkes weakness was sticking with his buddy Ron Wilson for so long</div></div>
You're. right about Wilson. But look how bad Burke handled the cap and UFAs. First move was signing Komarsik at 5m X 5....then he had to buy him out after three years because he was so poor a player.
Extended that Russia centre...(forget his name) then the Leafs had to buy him out.
Horrible draft picks (when he kept him). Never mind trading for Kessel...might as well kept the picks and spend Kessel money on a UFA.
But my opinion of Burke....he was lazy and strictly a media personality. Too lazy to scout. Surrounded himself with yes men, and guys who would tell him he was the smartest guy in the world.
Then as the Leafs continued to miss the playoffs he had the gaul the blame the media and the fans. IMO he really a disgusting individual who only worried about himself. Not that really mind people like that but there is no excuse for Leaf ownership to have hired him and continued to have him as an employee.

Horvat
So Rielly is a rental, Mikheyev is a 3rd liner and Nylander, well, who knows what Nylander is, it depends if he wants to play on that night. And you're asking for Boeser, Horvat (their captain) and Hoglander? The Canucks aren't doing this deal even if Jim Benning has hair dye dripping down his face.

The rest doesn't do it for me.
The goaltending isn't even close to good enough and the bottom six is trash. (I expect Robertson to be hurt more than he actually plays).</div></div>
Both Spezza and Wennberg scored at over a 40 point pace (on an 82 game season) last year. Pairing that with the team's best prospect seems like about as good a third line as you're gonna get.

That is a horrible Hyman contract, and that defence is bad. Also, the top 6 equals 53.6M! That’s crazy!

Leaf re-toolagain
The fact that a certain group of Leafs fans absolutely hate Marner for signing a massive deal, and also for disappearing in the playoffs, but are prepared to overpay massively for Hyman because "Grit! Leadershipzzzz! Heart!!!", and forget that he also disappeared during the playoffs is the purest form of entertainment available today.
Hyman is worth $4.5-5 mil, and anything over that is a massive overpay. You don't blow your budget trying to re-sign a Hyman type player, you go out and find the next Hyman-type player.

I think they will be keeping Murray. Was reported this morning that they will hang onto one of their veteran d-men (Murray, Kulikov). And since Kulikov appears to be getting serious trade interest (and was scratched last night for precautionary reasons), it is likely him that goes and Murray that stays.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>I'm not a huge fan of Willie, but I accept him for what he is..... an offensive player that'll score you high end points, but won't back check most of the time, and isn't physical. I can accept that, but the cap hell we're under due to the Tavares contract makes him the one to move to allow for up and coming talent to be paid their dues, I'd love to keep him, but he's the easiest to move in the big 4</div></div>
I hear you on that front - I had someone in these forums telling me Willie was hard nosed and crashes the net and wasn't a soft offensive minded player - happy to see some fans all dont have rose coloured glasses on and call a spade a spade for what he offers.

This is a joke right?
Jonathan Quick is probably the worst goalie in the NHL at this point I'm his career.
Edited to correct: he's playing a little better than I thought so we'll change it to one of the worst.
Dudes done though. And that's nothing to be ashamed of. He was a rock for a few years and instrumental on two cups. He's just at the end of his career

I've been saying it for years now! JT was a terrible signing and Willy has to go. I dont care what the advanced stats say. Those two aren't winners. They don't play like winners, they don't have that winner mentality, and they don't have the drive to win.

yeah same here in a shortened season, a cold or hot streak could make a huge difference. Goalies will be the biggest factor for playoff spots
