<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pavelski_tip_in</b></div><div>I think you're right about using the retention spot strategically to facilitate trades. But, I would rather watch Labanc and Hoffman walk as UFAs because their current AAVs make them untradable if it means we can get as close to a 1st rounder for either Duclair or Barabanov with retention. I think one high draft pick in the 20s-30s is worth more than a few mid-range picks that we could get by retaining on Labanc or Hoffman and trading Duclair/Barabanov at their actual cap hit.</div></div>
yeah I agree, if retention is the difference between a 2nd and a 1st then yeah, better to do that than just get a 4th or something for Labanc/Hoffman w/ retention. I would just doubt that 1.5 in retention would make up a big difference like that.

fair, but have to use last retention spot wisely. Might make more sense on a guy like Labanc or Hoffman because they have more aav, so more retention is possible.

That'll be a low 30s pick. I think this might be fair.

I would think the Sharks would prefer to keep Ruuta.
Doubt the Jackets would move Peeke for that.

Depth and question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>V123</b></div><div>Really?? I think a 4th is fair value for him</div></div>
Why give up a young player for a 4th if he's a player you'd be thrilled to have gotten in the 4th round? Most 4th rounders never even make it to the NHL. Good contract for 2 more years + still under team control after that. He played well for NJD before getting traded to San Jose, so the Sharks are going to want to see what he can do starting fresh with us this season.

We have to start contending
San Jose is not giving up a 2nd for Gallagher. Montreal would have to give us picks to take him. The Sharks are trying to get out of long overpay contracts, not take more on.

Karlson
So you think the San Jose Sharks can eat over 36 million for a couple of late round picks? Does Mike Grier owe Pittsburgh something?
These trade offers are beyond horrible from Pens fans. It’s like none of you have any concept of money and reality. Yeesh.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pavelski_tip_in</b></div><div>Quantity can't replace quality when trading for top players.
You need to include 1st round picks and top prospects to get a deal like this done, especially because you're asking for 7 years of retention.</div></div>
7 years of retention and not only that Hertl as well just as a player for that return is awful for sharks. I’m not even sure the cost of Hertl but i’m assuming probably 1st+2nd+young player+prospect, and forget the retention it won’t happen.

FINAL 2024 Toronto Maple Leafs
So you're going to give up the Boston first in order to relieve yourselves of Matt Murray's contract?
You have $1,456,050 in cap space shown above.
Matt Murray's buyout costs you $687,500 against the cap.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gronk9911</b></div><div>No, the rumour was Yamamoto, Barrie, Broberg, Holloway and a 1st, . With 40% retained.
Like I said, GM botched the trade.</div></div>
Where did that rumor come from? According to Stauffer the offer was 1st, Bouchard, Bourgault, two contracts (Barrie + someone else).
40-50% retention can easily be considered a dodge and not a botch based on the return. There wasn't enough being offered to retain that much... to pay another team to have your star player.
Also there wasn't enough time to work out something with a third team. The Meier trade seemed to eat up all their time.

Not getting the 40th overall from Washington. Change it to a 2025 2nd and it’s fine

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PrisonMike</b></div><div>I'd like to get feedback from the San Jose fan base, are they retooling or looking to rebuild according to management?</div></div>
Not a San Jose fan but can’t see a rebuild . More of a build a better and stronger prospect pool while trying to move the older players and go younger .
