I was looking at it as they are in different stages of rebuilding...NJD excited it last season, but need to tie up Goalie #1, and every team looks to add scoring - and Gaudreau with a true top center has shown he can be elite. NJD have 2 top centers he could fit with.
CBJ in the other hand probably needs to do a full rest with the new GM TBD. Gaudreau will fetch some assets to start over with thus Casey & the 2nd. The other 2 just balance the cap out

Going into next season the cap will be fine. Norris either stays healthy(ish) or gets LTIR, no reason to move him for a bad contract. Ottawa shouldn't be looking to bring EK back unless it's at 50% retained and for basically nothing. They don't need his contract on the books and isn't the defensive defenseman they're looking for. Really no reason to do this trade for Ottawa.</div></div>
I was wondering even if the cap went up if they needed the$$$ to get Pinto in

Tuch is BUF's version of Meier, if Meier grew up in the same neighborhood as Johnny Gaudreau....just on a better cap hit, and earlier in his career

I agree with your list, but I might add BUF & WPG depending on personal preferences and what we are talking about as a "prospect"...I was thinking less than 82 GP; but this is why I don't think MTL would have a good possibility of landing someone like Boldy - it would cost too much

Well the rumblings were they wanted to move Joseph out for Cap reasons. Norris is too injury prone to earn that cap hit, and Chyc has supposedly been on the block since the TDL. Also hearing Alfredson wants EK65 back, so I thought this wouldhit those marks plus a 20+ goal scorer with a6M cap hit to balance the deal with a couple of picks.
Not enough back? Or don't want to move Norris? What are your thoughts?

I know all about the local connection and how much he supposedly loves Buffalo. But there were rumors at the TDL and NJ fans know what type of player Fitz will admittedly be shopping for in the off-season. Just curious about an honest opinion on FAIR trade would be. (Not Mercer, Nemec, Holtz and a 1st please. Be better than MTL fans buffalo!)</div></div>
Tuch isn't on the block so you would have to overpay. Which means Nemec is probably a starting point and Mercer is right there, with BUF adding to balance the trade out. Samuelsson or Jokiharju and a prospect or two coming back.
I could see Tuch, Jokiharju & Ostlund for Nemec & Mercer. NJD shouldn't make the trade, but that would be the likely ball park of the ask. IMHO

Agreed, it was close but not there. But I disagree that it was higher ask than Eichel. I feel it's lower, as Boldy is a level below Eichel

2025 1st + Slaf 1OA + Reinbacher 5OA sure man... This isn't NHL 2024 on playstation</div></div>
I never said that; I said what MIN is going to ask for in a Boldy deal... quit being overdramatic with the McJesus comparisons. If you want a big fish on a great contract you are going to pay through the nose. And my point was a (1) top D prospect/NHL'er; (2) a top forward prospect/NHL'er and (3) 2025 1st, unprotected. To MIN, this would be their version of an Eichel-level trade, and these are things MTL has that MIN would want.
IF the question was should MTL do this, of course not....but don't get mad at me, I didn't propose MTL trying to trade for Boldy

I don't think MIN would consider moving Boldy without a huge overpay, which would be Hutson/Guhle/Reinbacher + Slaf/Perrault/Mesar + 2025 1st, unprotected. MIN would want 2024 unprotected, but I don't see how that would be on the table.

Not saying you have to trade him but let's not pretend he's still worth a 5th overall pick here.</div></div>
Depends on the draft year; he would still be no. 5 if 2021 was re-drafted today; 6th at worst if you like Edvinson better.

The question was "what should we [MTL] offer"? This is the best answer. You can say Caufield isn't worth involving in a trade for for KJ ++ but you're the one who needs to put the bong down if you think Caufield isn't in the ask from CBJ

Caufield would be the starting point, for KJ and a prospect not named Jiricek, and balance a deal from there
