Josh Bailey
I have watched all their preseason games and Bailey has been terrible. Why is he still in camp??
Ottawa has much better options like Smejkal, Jaraventie and Chartier who have had good preseasons.
Am I missing something about Bailey?

No doubt Jake Sanderson should be second... May end up first in a couple years. Ottawa went against consensus and got it right this time.

Although my gut tells me Dallas management wouldn't move Marchment, a year after signing him to a long term deal. Not too mention that you got to think every Canadian team is likely on his NTC list. Just from a money perspective he's going for Dallas low tax to Ontario heavy taxation on his first major contract of his career. Not wise from a monetary POV for a player that recently signed on a specific team for a reason.</div></div>
Hopefully being from Ontario he likes winters and hates guns!

Sanderson is special. He is definitely 2 or 3 IMHO.
I really like Jack Quinn's game too. Not sure where he may land in a couple of years on this list.

That trade makes no sense for Ottawa. Take their best prospect in Ridley Gregg throw in 2 good defensive prospect plus 2 draft picks then add to their strained cap for a player they have no need for.

I dont know what Im doing here
This trade is interesting. Slight alteration.. keep JBD and Calgary gets to keep their 2 picks. A third team in need of a top 4 RHD picks up Tanev for a second and third round pick (not sure of his worth). We keep Joseph who will rebound. He played so well in his last few games and I believe he was hurt and played earlier in the year.
Now lets talk depth... Kastelic is an NHL player (if you do not think so take the time to watch him play). Plays a hard game and has decent hands. Gambrell is at best a 13th forward. Sokolov has to earn a spot however he looked better at the end of the season. The other player who may take that last spot is Ostapchuk. For a young guy he plays a very mature defensive game. His time is coming soon.

Wouldn't the Sens been better off having about 13m in cap by not having DeBrincat and Chychrun (sign UFAs) and keeping two first rounders, two second rounders and a third.</div></div>
Go look how much cap space is opening up the year after when the buyouts finish. Ottawa is close to an end product . Yes, the youth has to mature.
Just goaltending and depth at forward needs help. Lets pray that the goaltending gods are smiling down on us.

Based on what we thought we were getting with Talbot, Ottawa should be hesitant to go after goalies who have great years however play for excellent defensive teams.
Maybe look at goalies who had okay years however they play on terrible defensive teams.

I agree that they are underpaying Pinto. Ottawa has to be very careful with Debrincat. Anything over $8m for what could be your 4th best player seems excessive. Of course his price is what teams will pay. Next year will be tight for all the teams due to the cap. IMHO tap out at $8m additionally this qualifying offer is BS (escalating salary) .

Playoff hockey will be back next year
I do not see how this is not a great trade for the Canucks.
Demko - Forsberg GAA about equal. GAA would be better as both teams have been somewhat of a mess.
Ostapchuk - Was Canada's most mature player at the world juniors. I expect him to fight for a spot next year. 2nd or 3rd line potential with a high likelihood of becoming an NHL player.
Lassi Thomson - First round draft pick however underperforming. Has a good skillset. Still has potential however Ottawa is now stacked with defensemen almost NHL ready and does need to shed at least one.
...and we have to throw in a first round draft pick. Seems crazy to me. I may be wrong and have to watch Demko a hell of lot more...

Paying Cat $9m is cap suicide. You would hope that $8m would be good enough hoping that he would like to stay and play with this core of players. Cat is a great player however more important than Stutzle and Tkachuk he is not. $8 million max or make the trade PD.

Chris Tierney no longer can skate well enough to be in the NHL. Gambrell is a fringe player at best with little scoring acumen but at least he is a good skater and a decent defensive forward.
I too agree that Kastelic is their longer term 4C. In a couple years to roll out Kastelic between Ostapchuk and Boucher will be terrifying for the opposition.

I like your first three lines and your defense. For the fourth line, Ottawa should have guys that scare the opposition from carrying the puck. The following year the line of Ostapchuk - Kostelic- Boucher will terrorize on the forecheck.
Brassard to me is a scratch and Sokolov has more to prove. Hopefully he can play a complete game by next year.

Good catch. I actually do not think Ottawa will pay $9+ million for him. It may be better for Ottawa to trade him after this year, or at the trade deadline if they are not in the playoff hunt.
This will give them flexibility to sign their up and coming players. Ottawa has lots of good prospects on the horizon.

Zub is getting north of $4m and probably 4 years +. Tychonick will be cast off.
The rest of your choices seem are good.
Things that remain a question:
-Do they sign Motte and extend Austin Watson? Or does Sokolov, Crookshank and Lodin take their place?
-Is Mads Sogaard ready? (i sure hope so. I like what I have seen)

I really like Severson however for Pinto, Sanderson and others to get paid I think that there must be a sacrifice. That sacrifice may be trading Debrincat at the end of the season or signing Debrincat and going with Guenette or Thomson.
Tyler Boucher is probably 2 years away. Let him marinade well in the AHL prior to starting his NHL with a bang.
