Huberdeau has been awful and has an awful contract. The logic here is Montreal gives up two meh players on shorter term deals, in exchange for a higher-upside player with a bonkers bad contract.

Monster deal for 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>I am sorry but how wouldn't Chicago have talent to surround Bedard? They have 4 other picks in the 2024 and 2025 drafts plus the 19th pick this year as well. And the Hawks next 2 picks are likely to be lottery picks as well, giving them 3 top 10 picks and 3 additional picks in the next 3 drafts. That literally gives them talent to surround Bedard</div></div>
None of these draft picks will be in the NHL for 2-3 years at minimum. By that point Bedard will be out of his entry-level deal. Even if Reichel and KK and Nazar are impactful this coming year or next year, they tore if down to the studs, so there is no one else to help. It wastes the first 3 years of his career. They might as well punt it the next 3 years, take Michkov, and then build a powerhouse from 2026-2036

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>According to who? You? It’s so tired for guys like you to justify a trade because COL lost in the 2nd rd. 3yrs ago they were the 8th seed, 2 years ago they are starting their 3rd goalie in games 6 and 7, last year because of the covid schedule quirk which a crappy MTL team took advantage of COL lost to a team tied with them in the regular season for most points all while not having Kadri, Newhook, Byram, and EJ. COL isn’t trading for Chiarot, COL isn’t trading Barron for a rental. I tell you what, if COL makes that trade I’ll Venmo you $100 if they don’t you Venmo me $5.</div></div>
well well well. It wasn't Chiarot, but I was bang on the trade return. Barron and a second for Lehkonen. Not a rental so I guess you keep your $100.

Wrong. He is playing well and would be a stellar add for a cup contending team to get them through the playoffs. Chiarot showed this last season.

But roll with the patented MTL answer of why teams will over pay. COL doesn’t want or need a guy like Chiarot. Easy easy no, you don’t trade a guy you project into a top 4 roll in 2 seasons for a rental that doesn’t fit what you do at all. You tried to show horn a trade that doesn’t work for COL because you wanted to add Barron.</div></div>
Disagree, History has always shown teams are willing to trade prospects for guys who can get them THROUGH the playoffs. Colorado needs these kind of guys, and Chairot showed this last year. Exactly the type of dman you want and need for the playoffs. But thats ok, Colorado fans can keep seeing their team losing in the second round, since they dont have guys to get you through the playoffs.

Habs without Weber and Drouin options - Makar Martinez Tarasenko and Coleman
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fran615</b></div><div>To be honest, I also believe COL will match that offer sheet in a second. However, this is Fantasy GM, so it's just to play around. In that vein, I would have offered a 7 year contract at 10.25. They would match of course, but this is for fun.
Tarasenko trade; again, I don't think it's too ridiculous as a trade proposal, since Tarasenko WANTS out of STL. And he is getting older and banged up.</div></div>
Unfortunately Offer sheet annual average (AAV) is calculated by dividing the contract value by the lower of: 1. The contract length, or 2. Five years. So 7 years would mean a higher cap hit.

as noted, I do think they will match anything. But they will be in tough with signing Landeskog ($8mill) and Grubauer ($7mill), so it will be tight with Makar there on a big contract, especially with Mackinnon up soon too.
