My Seattle Team w Trades
I'd be pretty shocked if Detroit compensated Seattle for taking Nielsen.
1. Detroit isn't losing anyone good in the first place so we wouldn't be compensating them to avoid picking a specific player in addition to taking Nielsen.
2. Nielsen only has one year left on his deal and his buyout is pretty reasonable.
3. Detroit has a projected 48.9M in cap space for next offseason.

Detroit could have some interest in MP at a reasonable cost but not for Zucker.

If the Red Wings did move Bertuzzi, I think they'd want a 1st round pick and maybe another minor asset. JVR had a good year but he's not what the Red Wings would be after.

My two cents: Red Wings will protect Cholowski over Lindstrom. I agree with the rest of the team.

Acquiring a LHD would fill a position of need for Detroit. DeKeyser is the only LHD we have under contract and he's not great. Cholowski and Djoos are both RFA's but they're both PP specialists with defensive issues.
How has Pettersson played this year?

His buyout isn't bad, but what do you think Carolina would be willing to give up to trade him instead?

I'd agree that Mantha is underperforming and some WIngs fans overvalue him but if that's the return we just won't trade him.

Mantha trade brought up by THW
I know I’m a bit biased since I’m a Wings fan but this looks like a poor offer to me. None of those pieces have much value to Detroit outside of the picks. I know Mantha’s gotten off to a slow start but I wouldn’t trade him at his lowest value when he’s been great the past couple years and still has plenty of time to bounce back. I think he’ll benefit from a coaching change which will likely take place after this season since Blashill is coaching a super defensive style to limit chances from the other team.

What happens to Bobby Ryan
I think Detroit could get a 2nd without giving a pick back or at least giving a lower pick back but looks decent to me.

I’d think at worst we could get a 3rd for him. His scoring has gone down since his hot start but he’s still a nice piece and his contract makes it easy for even teams without much cap flexibility to add.

Not that it's a big deal but I don't see why Detroit would take on extra salary to acquire a player who wouldn't even be in our lineup.

I'd think Detroit would do that unless they want to resign Glendening. His value should be around a 3rd and taking back Weal just saves us from retaining any salary.

Kings would still pass but I think Skinner could be moveable with retained salary. It would probably still take a big sweetener though unless he starts to produce again.

I'm not touching that as Detroit. Skinner's contract would significantly lower our cap space for years.

Personally I wouldn't touch his contract for just about anything, unless it was something stupid that Buffalo would never do. I think your best bet is hoping he can bounce back or maybe trading him with retained salary.

Ryan was a pick-up to be used for a trade to get another pick. Is Detroit expecting a 1st for him? Not gonna happen. Would you rather a pick or a NHL ready player under contract for a few years?</div></div>
Obviously no one is giving up a 1st for Ryan but no way is Bjork worth Ryan + a 2nd.

They might not be that different, but or me the big difference is that Mantha is producing at this rate on an awful, low-scoring Detroit team, while DeBrusk gets the advantage of playing on a cup contending team.

Even if he never takes another step forward, I'd take Mantha over DeBrusk, and he has potential to be a lot better than DeBrusk if he reaches his 30-goal, 60+ point upside. (Not trying to diminish DeBrusk but Mantha is better)
Ryan (essentially worth a 2nd) + 2nd >>>>>>>>>> Bjork.
Detroit easily rejects.
