Toronto Maple Leafs signed Auston Matthews (4 Years / $13,250,000 AAV)
Am I the only one that thinks Toronto just missed a chance to change the culture?
Instead of sending a message and trading one of the core 4 for assets, they are handing them big contracts. I just don't understand why they believe in this core so much when they simply fail to show up year after year when it matters. They failed at sending a message and changing the culture imo.

(DET/MTL) - Lindström, 2025 4th (DET) for Petry
As a habs fan, think we could have gotten more for Petry with retention, if not now maybe at the deadline. If we combine the trade made with the pens and this one, it's a W, but this is one on it's own is an L. I don't believe Lindstrom has any future here even if I hope I'm proved wrong. So I essentially see this as a 4th rd pick + a few games of Lindstrom AND giving up a retention slot for a guy that was worth more imo, which makes this trade on it's own an L.
What is Detroit doing? Really intriguing team. Either the defensive core is going to be as bad as we think of these vets are gonna fit perfectly with each-other. I like it.

Not a big fan of this. I voted yes but I am changing my mind. Tarasenko is not very good defensively and how are they going to re-sign Shane Pinto?

Why did no one else tried to get him on waivers? Amazing for the sharks to get him for that cheap and keep his RFA rights after the season.

(OTT/DET) - DeBrincat for Kubalik, Sebrango, 2024 4th (DET), 2024 1st (DET)
I don't understand why people think this isn't a good deal for OTT.
They litterally got a 1st who might be very high, a decent prospect in Sebrango, an amazing 40 point player for a player that wanted to leave...
Amazing trade for Detroit too. W-W.

Even with Murray bought out they will still have no money to re-sign Samsonov.

Nothing to lose with this for the flyers, he can help guys like Cam York develop.
1 year deal for a proven vet and they can flip him at the deadline.

This is crazy, it makes 0 sense for TBL giving up a cheap aggressive 4th liner for free and retaining? What am I missing here?

As a habs fan, I love it absolutely nothing to lose.
Best case, he plays in our lineup and the habs try to revive him, worst case he is a good AHL player for us.

(COL/MTL) - Newhook for Fairbrother, 2023 1st (FLA), 2023 2nd (MTL)
Actually I just checked players who are drafted from 31-40 are more likely to not be as good as Newhook. I'm still not a big fan of the trade but after watching some videos sure as hell excited to have Newhook playing for the habs.

Unless someone like Cristall or Gulyayev fell.. Its very mid. The draft falls off after picks 20-22. Its a top heavy draft. Lots of talk that Armstrong in St Louis is moving both his late 1sts at 25+29 as well. Some are convinced he wont make those picks at such as Elliot Friedman.</div></div>
Yeah I mean't 37. But yeah I guess it's not terrible. Guess we'll see in 5 years.

As a habs fan this is a bit dissapointing. Giving 31st and 33nd for Newhook is a bit too much, espacially because of how stacked the 2023 draft is.

(BOS/CHI) - Foligno, Hall for Mitchell, Regula
Great deal for CHI, they get someone to play with Connor Bedard and give Hall a shot to show teams what he can do and hopefully for them they can try and get a 1st at the next TDL.
As of BOS, this is also good cuz they clear 6M in cap and get Ian Mitchell too. Now if I was them I would trade Ullmark for a solid return and than you have plenty of cap to work with and you still have Swayman as a solid starter.
