I have some off-season moves in mind. But I’d make them whether we win or lose.
That doesn’t matter much right now though.

I think our forwards are good enough to figure their sh-t out. I’d take a peak at Comtois (who’s on the block), and maybe Jarnkrok (you’ll understand in a sec), but otherwise that’s not where we NEED to improve.

Defence. Oh boy. It’s not even that it’s bad, but it allows too many guys out front. How many goals tonight were tipped or on the door step? All of them I think. We have to do something there. A guy who’s main focus is playing defence.
Of the guys on the market, the most intriguing, to me, is Mark Giordano. On a terrible Seattle team, he’s still just so solid. He’s also at a point where he could be re-signed for fairly cheap, in his hometown (Toronto) where he has a long-time teammate in TJ Brodie.

Giordano + Jarnkrok would be nice.
Giordano + McCann would be really nice. That’s more of a pipe dream though.

Back to tonight… I don’t blame Jack entirely. The defence has got to be better.
I will say this however, at some point you just need a save.

Next game, I’d go to this:
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kerfoot
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Rielly - Holl
Brodie - Lyubushkin
Dermott - Liljegren

Mrazek
Campbell

this is under the assumption that Kase is not back (he was moved to IR earlier) and Sandin is still out.
If Sandin is back I’d do this for a game:
Brodie - Lyubushkin
Rielly - Holl
Sandin - Liljegren

Mark Giordano would help this so much lol

I'd wager Keefe's opinion over mine and yours as well. He's putting a team together that he thinks has the best chance to win with what he has. He's not a two way dman, defensive dman? You're clearly an over the edge Leafs fan. Why is he earning about the same amount on his entry level deal? Not even Holl type of money. I think Dubas' opinion is more accurate than yours.</div></div>

Okay so Keefe has used Dermott more because he's done exactly what he's been asked to do. Earning the 3LD spot. Keefe hasn't used Lehtonen because he says he isn't good enough in his own end. Dermott has been good defensively despite having Bogosian as his partner who is the weakest defenceman on the team. He's never been billed as an offensive dman, he's supposed to be a good two way guy. As for his contract, he had to go low to remain on the team due to cap constraints. Dubas did a good job getting him for cheap on a 1 year show me deal. So far he's been good. Not flashy so I get why you have no clue how good he's been but solid. He doesn't need a bunch of points, he needs to get back and retrieve pucks and get it back going the other way. He does that well, either by passing it up or skating it out of danger. Which he does well. Watch him make entering the zone very hard for the opposition, it's a boring play that many don't notice but it's very important. It's not all about points when defending. It is in fact all about not allowing points. Which Dermott is good at.
