Either add Slaf or stop trading for Kakko</div></div>
Slafs is already (nearly) pacing Kakko's production (and he's not that far behind Lafreniere either). He's also trending up while Kakko is trending down.
Kakko may well recover and eventually become a top 6 producer, but at this moment his value is low and doesn't even approach that kind of return in a trade.

Allen won't bring enough value to justify using a retention slot on him.
We would be better off buying him out if we can't get a team to take his full cap hit.
It will cost an extra ~$400k vs retaining and he'll get to sign anywhere he chooses for cheap.
The buyout cost the following year is only ~$750k, negligible.
Better off keeping Savard if that's the return as well.
If we don't make the playoffs next year he'll bring a better return as a rental than this.
If we do make the playoffs, we're going to need him.

Winnipeg 1st + Ylonen
Replaces Kakko in the bottom 6 and can use the 1st to pick up a top 6 RW.
(Not that I'd necessarily do it, but I think it makes sense.)

New Era
I'm okay with this if it's possible. Lindstrom shouldn't be rushed however.
Some AHL time would benefit him while he adjusts his frame and learns to protect himself, things Slafkovsky had to learn the hard way.
Weber for Price is interesting. Arizona is projecting around $45M next season and losing some LTIR contracts so they may be able to make use of another.
They could have both if interested, but I do wonder if we could "convince" Weber to retire and take a role in the organization helping our defense.
$2M is $2M, but the timing is good considering our young defensive group and where we hope for them to be in a couple of years.
Reinhart is the biggest question mark. He will probably be offered more from someone but it doesn't hurt to inquire.
I still believe Armia will be bought out.
We need to move a defenseman (not necessarily before next season, but preferably).
We can't start next season with 3 goaltenders on the roster. Time to make a choice.

Deez guys
Tuch considers Montreal the greatest organization in hockey and would love to sign here. His words.
Montreal asked him to go back to BU for another season, do certain things with his game, and he has done that.
There's no reason for them not to sign him and no reason for him not to sign.
That doesn't mean it will happen, but both parties seem to be interested in his proper development and have worked together well thus far.
Knowing Hughes' he will follow through on a prospect that has followed directives and shown character.

Armia is good <em>at times</em>. He's just too inconsistent. Always has been.
We are a bottom team with more than enough cap space and even we sent him down.
GMs (and more specifically coaches) simply don't want bottom 6 guys that are lackadaisical, regardless of their cap hit.
Those guys are easily replaced.

Better off trading for Savard then moving Smith in the off-season to recoup assets I would think.
Not sure Pittsburgh is in a position to be adding $3.5M behind Letang and Karlsson.
They should consider Kovacevic instead.

Assuming he's available (I did note your post below that his availability may be suspect) but that would be a red flag on its own.
You don't trade a young 60+ point player unless you have serious concerns. A trade for him has to assume that availability or there's just no real discussion to be had.
His defensive work not being satisfactory enough to earn him more than a bridge deal.
Delayed negotiations in getting that contract.
The injuries and poor production this year.
His primary identifying factor being Michigan goals.
Red flags may be too harsh, but that's the colloquial term. Yellow flags may be more appropriate.

There are definitely red flags around Zegras but not enough to bring his price down.
I think you're correct that we shouldn't be the ones to bite on a trade unless the cost is more palatable.
The hope is that the player matures with time and becomes more effective.
We see it go both ways. Some players overcome those early concerns, some don't.
Someone will likely "bet the over" and give up more than I would be personally be willing.

Armia is a good 4th liner with a big body, the problem is his contract, but at 1,7M its okay.
in my scenario Evans he would bring another center to replace him, plus a third pick, because it frees cap space for a contender.
thank you</div></div>
Cap space means nothing if it isn't being used. Unless you're also proposing a way to fill the roster that requires dumping cap, it is simply unnecessary. Wait until we need the space, when it may cost less.
That's still $23M without the dumps. More money than needed to fill 1-3 spots. Still enough for 2 top line players without sacrificing 1st round picks.
Many underestimate the value Evans brings to the team. He's a reliable 4C (ideally) who takes a lot of responsibility which makes things easier for everyone else, especially young players coming into the lineup. Perhaps Faksa can do that as well, but why make the change (and add cap) if the return is just "meh".

It's silly to pay to dump cap while you are sitting on $35M in available space.
Kovacevic for Lavoie has some merit but that's a low percentage play for Montreal.
Armia will likely be bought out to free up a roster spot. He has no trade value and is definitely not worth a retention slot.
Evans is too important to move at this time considering the type of return he would bring in a trade vs his value to the team.

His style of play does indeed cause him to miss some games but it's not the reason for his decline in performance.
He's a straight line player and doesn't have the hands or vision for the more dynamic game Montreal is developing.
It's not for lack of effort. He's tried his best to adapt, but it simply doesn't play to his strengths and has so far been unsuccessful.
That's not to suggest he would be a fit in Vancouver either, merely an evaluation of the player to further understanding.

Lindgren got 3x3 so I'd imagine Schneider would be looking for around the same.
Kaako's QO is $2.5M and they are weak in RHD prospects.
All factors that suggest Schneider could get more.
I don't think they want to low ball him a year away from arbitration either.
My guess would be $3M x 2 making him an RFA again when Trouba's deal expires.
Lets them negotiate a long term extension before moving him into a top 4 role, which may save cap for the team or a 1 year trial before a long term extension at a potentially higher cap hit.

Would Allvin be inclined to overpay Lindholm to justify the assets he spent to acquire him? Or will he be content to let him walk as a rental?
Lindholm has been rumored to have rejected offers upwards of $9M. You might get him for less if he decides he wants to stay in Vancouver, but not likely $3M less.

Danault was out as well and Dvorak was a younger replacement that was potentially better than his time in Arizona showed. He was already a solid 2-way C, so his floor was established and he was drawing interest from a few teams.
It was a worthwhile gamble which simply didn't pay off.

I don't know who's been bumpering the PP but Monahan has been effective there.
He'll definitely help on crucial faceoffs and be the go-to guy in those situations.
He should see more 5v5 production in general simply by having more productive wingers.
Winnipeg's PK has room for improvement and he could help there.
Winnipeg is getting help in several key areas with this one acquisition. This should be a win-win-win. Good for the Jets, good for the Habs, good for Monahan.

The value of a player currently is not always tied to their value in the past.
Players' performance and circumstances change and cause their value to fluctuate.
Winnipeg isn't losing anything because Monahan was a cap dump a couple of years ago. That's just not part of the equation for them.
He was a $5M injured player on a cap strapped team. Now he's a $2M healthy player that is performing well.
Those two players are very different in value.

LA is in a weird place now, sitting in the middle of the pack but arguably deserving at least somewhat better results.
I think this is a case where a coaching change may help turn them around, but can't dismiss the Doughty call out and possibility their issues weren't limited to coaching alone.
Whatever the case in the locker room, the players have a scapegoat and it's up to them to turn this into a second chance.
