Ya I think that wouldn't be a problem. Likely Bemstrom would be valued as a third round pick anyways. Columbus has so many young guys and are still high on Chinakov so I don't think they'd have a problem moving on from both of them

2023 NHL Entry Draft Projection (TOP75) - with hypothetical trades
Actually like the idea of those trades and picks.
Maybe just me but from watching highlights does Will Smith not look like he is a safer pick than Carlsson? Just don't really like the way Carlsson skates but maybe hes too talented for it to matter.
Personally I think Jayden Perron and Carsson Bjarnsson go a bit higher than this

Top 15 Cs in the league
Pretty obviously biased list against Toronto here. Put Matthews at 2 or 3 and Petterson down to Matthews spot and your good.
I'd have a very hard time believing many NHL teams would pick Petterson over Point Barkov, Matthews, etc..

if cap goes up slightly more
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JK74</b></div><div>I don't think the Hawks are trading draft capital for a player who's underperformed expectations. I like Yamamoto but I think the Hawks would prefer to use that pick to move up in the draft or trade for a younger player with more control. Edmonton is in the same boat Chicago was in when they let Strome go. His cap hit was on the verge of making him a negative asset. That's why he wasn't dealt at last year's deadline.</div></div>
ya that is a very fair point. Yamo is a very weird guy caught between being a decent top 9 player. But makes a bit too much money and there is about 50 other players exactly like Yamo out there in the league.
I think a team would take a chance on him for a third or a fourth round pick, but yes I agree Chicago might be better off keeping their draft pick and sticking with their original plan

My guess at what happens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Samsoc22</b></div><div>Honest question: With as good as Bouchard has been do you really think he will only ask for $4M on his deal? I don’t see every Oilers game obviously and I know he is still young but that just seems super cheap from the outside looking in fan.</div></div>
Honestly yes I think that is all he will get. A great comparable is Dobson for the Islanders, they were both drafted in the same spot and have had similar career trajectories.
Bouch is a very inconsistent player. He has great skills but makes silly plays with the puck that when they aren't working it doesn't look great, when they do work he looks amazing.
He is never going to be a number one d-man (or I can't see it). I think the Oilers have leverage here because he wasn't putting up near as good numbers until he was on the powerplay.

ya some of the middle ranked guy's are very hard to rate one above eachother. Hard to say who is better between Chychrun, Ekholm, and Andersson as an example.
I really thought about Doughty and do agree he would be a very easy argument to be in this list

Leafs vs Panthers comparison
Upfront: decently comparable I would say. Leafs have a little bit more starpower I would say as although Tkachuk > Marner, I'd say Matthews > Barkov, Tavares > Bennett, Nylander > Reinhart or Verhaege
Florida has a balance attack but the way O'Reilly and Acciari have been playing I'd say the leafs have a balanced attack as well.
Upfront I'd pick Leafs.
Backend: I think Florida's back end is a little bit underrated. They have a very strong right side and a bit of a weaker left side. Ekblad Montour Gudas is a cup winning right side. Their left side isn't great but has a lot of smart players and is steady. But the leafs have improved their backend and if Liljegren or Gustafsson keep playing and getting better the Leafs have a good backend too.
Backend: Wash
In net get's interesting. Bobrovsky played great the last couple of games but didn't start the first couple of games. Samsonov wasn't great game 5 but was unbelievable in game 6. I think i'm giving the advantage to the Leafs but have to respect the fact that Bob could easily steal a game this series if he get's hot.

Add Bertuzzi to the third line throw Nino on the third line, add either korpisallo or Portillo and this team would be very very well built. Obviously most these guys cap hit would be higher if they weren't mainly 50% retained

Ya that's kind of what I've gathered from an outsider's perspective. Sometimes i'll watch and he is doing really well and then the next time Martin Jones has played 8 of the last 10 games for the kraken

Minimal Cap increase
I think this is a good reminder how hard next offseason could be. Even moving Foegele out for $2.75 mill that's leaving around $5 million for McLeod and Bouch which isn't much at all.
Going to need a big year next year from Holloway, Hamblin, Bourgault. Or bring in some more depth guy's like Janmark for cheap

Who would we rather have
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>benjgc</b></div><div>Of the four options you've listed, Edmundson's back is all screwed up, Ekholm would cost a fortune (reported ask starts with two 1sts), and Chychrun will cost even more. Gavrikov is probably the smartest move for Edmonton, particularly considering that they need a left-shot D more than a right shot.</div></div>
ya that's not a bad opinion at all. You are giving up some player quality if you don't get Chyc or Ekholm but also costing you a lot less. I think part of it depends on what the Oil think they want to do with their D for next year. Because Nurse and Kulak are back for sure. So depends if they want Broberg getting a consistent lineup spot on the left side or what. The right side is locked up as well unless they move Barrie.

Ya very well could be two first to get the deal done. And yes you have to pay to get rid of Pulj but for a $3 million salary with only 20 games left it would be about $750,00 of cash owed to Pulj. Which isn't a lot could be a late round pick as sweetener

Yes I agree but that is more of a Maple Leafs decision. Just my point is that the Leafs can't just put Murray on LTIR if he is not hurt and wanting to play, if he is on LTIR for the first half of the season and then decides to come back, the Leafs have to find cap room for him

2023 outlook
I think it's close to reasonable.
It's pretty wishful thinking to assume that Murray will just sit on LTIR all season. He's still an athlete and even if he tries to come back for part of the year you are forced to activate him. You can't just LTIR a player who isn't actually hurt.
And they can forsure start the year like this but no guarantee that next year is the year robertson magically turns around and is a top six player. Knies is the same way, may need an insurance policy to play on that second line

what may happen if no Karlsson
I don't mind the idea of getting Ghost but it's kind of an addition to what we already have. He is a worse if not the same replica of Tyson Barrie. Good offensively but not good defensively. The way Barrie has been playing he's not going to be the 7th Dman so in that case you would run Kulak - Barrie, Ghost - Bouchard.
Does that not seem like an excess of guy's who aren't great in their own end? Can you trust to put Ghost, Bouch, or Barrie on the ice against Colorado's top line or are we going to be worrying the entire shift about them making a d zone mistake.
When Tampa won they had Serg - Hedman - Cernak - McDonaugh who were all solid defensively. Yes they preferred McD and Cernak against the other teams best but if either of the two pairings were caught out on the ice it wasn't a full panick.
For this reason I think a guy like Edmunson might be a better fit. Just to provide Bouch some stability and confidence in our own end.
