Oshie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>That makes sense, but I doubt Dallas move Radulov, let alone retain enough salary for him to fit better than Oshie. Dallas fans?
Here's Oshie's contract: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/players/tj-oshie">https://www.capfriendly.com/players/tj-oshie</a> It pays him only 4.5M per year from ages 35 to 38
It's built on the same descending plan as Radulov's: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/players/alexander-radulov">https://www.capfriendly.com/players/alexander-radulov</a>
Here's Pavelski's, which pays him $8M the year he's 38, which tells me Dallas just wants to score more points, whatever the cost: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/players/joe-pavelski">https://www.capfriendly.com/players/joe-pavelski</a>
So maybe the Caps ask for, like, Damiani and Honka, thrown in, and maybe Washington adds Boyd, and the Caps sign a UFA 2R? Not that there are good ones left.</div></div>
You're right about Radulov probably being a hard guy to get, but again, Oshie will be integral to Washington's success this year and would be similarly tough to acquire. Also, maybe I didn't make this point clear enough: no amount of prospects or non-lottery picks would be worth not having Oshie for any amount of time this year. As long as he remains a strong two-way player, his value is nearly impossible to replace for the same cap hit, so you'd end up paying much more for a younger guy like Kreider or paying about the same amount for a guy as old or older than him (which puts you right back at square one), and that's only IF similar guys are available and interested in Washington. I'd much rather deal with a buyout in the last 1-3 years of his contract than trade him for magic beans now because he ***might*** start to drop off in the near future.

Oshie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Add a prospect and a bust on a holdout?</div></div>
Make it Oshie and Stephenson for Radulov (plus other pieces on either side, maybe) and it starts to make sense for the Caps; give up a great two way player and fringe NHLer to add a dynamic scoring threat, and shed a little cap in the process. Just getting rid of Oshie without adding a top 6 winger in return makes less than zero sense for the Caps this season.

Signing bonuses are very much applicable to escrow (and can be a significant driver of any year's given escrow %); escrow amounts are all about "Actual Club Salary" (i.e. the actual dollar amounts paid out by clubs in a given year) and whether or not the aggregated Actual Club Salary exceeds the aggregated salary cap/floor midpoint in any given quarter.

LTIR can be used during the offseason if the players being put on LTIR have a doctor say they're going to miss the beginning of the season, so Horton and Clarkson's relief is enough to get them within 10% of the upper limit

Connor Trade Makes Most Sense here
I don't know who you'd offer instead but I think WPG would want a better NHL forward than Jost. Jost is fine, but hasn't yet scored at above a 4th line rate in terms of 5v5 points per 60, so if you could throw in someone else instead (I'd say Donskoi but trading a recent signing is weird) that might be a sweet enough offer for them to consider.

Just a thought - Marners contract
If I had to choose, I'd probably just cave in to his demands for a bridge containing an absurdly high QO. He probably won't replicate his production from last season even if he spends almost all of his time with Tavares again (career years are hard to top), and if he gets split up from Tavares it'll become obvious just how much Tavares drives Marner's points (and not the other way around). Either way, you get to find out just how good of a player he is without committing long term, and if he's not as good as he currently thinks he is you can hopefully work with him to sign below his QO, and if he's as good as or better than he claims then you've got a guy who's better than Matthews or Stone or McDavid on your hands, in which case you back up the brinks truck and pay the man.

Marner trade thought
Gotta think that Detroit might not want to do this as Mantha and Athanasiou are really good young players, but Marner is tricky in that I don't know whether or not other GMs value him as highly as the Leafs do. If they like him enough to give him 11M+ on a long term deal, they'd probably pull the trigger, but I think Yzerman would rather let Toronto stew over the Marner situation and hope it goes poorly for them.

Barely a 60 point player
Not to mention injuries starting to play a factor with him.</div></div>
The final years of his contract are somewhat concerning, but points don't accurately describe his overall value (they rarely do for anybody). He is still a phenomenal driver of play and a critical part of the Caps top 6, and unless a team made an offer GMBM couldn't refuse, he's not getting moved. And I'll flip the age/injury concern back on the Oilers here: if he's so destined to age terribly and the Caps are desperate to get his contract off the books pronto, why would the Oilers give up assets to acquire him?

No chance that Marner signs that, the most his QO could be is ~9.466M with that AAV (4.733M year 1, 9.466 year 2) and from all reports he really wants that QO to be enormous if it's a bridge

This could be enough to just get him as a rental, but I feel like there's a good chance he ends up like Mark Stone at last year's deadline; everyone will want him and make calls on him, but someone will end up ponying up more assets to get him with an extension in place. This wouldn't be enough for Hall + extension, but probably close for Hall as a pending UFA

**** the analogy then, this is still dumb as hell and doesn't benefit either side. Toronto gets tied to an overrated defenseman till he's like 37-38 for way too much money, while LA effectively ends up paying anywhere between 12 and 15M (10-13M for Marner + 2M retention on Doughty) for a winger who, and I'm sure this is a coincidence, only put up career numbers once he started playing on Tavares' wing.
