<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VijayPatel11</b></div><div>Panthers instantly decline lol. Bob at 5M has positive value, not giving up a good prospect and a high pick to retain 20 million on a good starting goalie.</div></div>

If you read my explanation, does Bob really have positive value? Of course you could be right, but I'm not a GM and neither are you so we can only really speculate right? In my mind, Bob is still a negative asset for these reasons:

#1 He has a full NMC, you're not shipping him to a team unless he wants to go. That alone loses you tons of leverage, you realistically have a small handful of teams that he would willingly leave Florida for. You can't just dump him to ARZ, it has to be a team that is ready to win, in a city he likes more than FLA or enough to uproot his life, and an organization that will stand behind him.

#2 You're retaining 20 million, but you're also getting rid of 20 million. How bad do you want to get rid of him? Teams aren't lining up to help FLA re-sign their star players and depth for another playoff run. You're the team that needs to stay competitive because you've spent all your picks and have no money to do so. Toronto can go after John Gibson, Kuemper, Husso, Stolarz, Holtby, Jack Campbell in FA/Trade, as do all these other teams that need a goalie. Florida? You have 3 mill in cap with multiple big free agents this year with both Weegar and Huberdeau asking for a max next season. That's an additional 8 - 10 mill you need to find for next season. Teams know Florida has their back against the wall, they can clear Hornqvist but that's not going to be enough to bring back Chiarot, Giroux not to mention Spencer Knight will want a raise as well next year (Carter Hart contract?)

So while I agree with you, that Florida totally could find a team that needs a goalie badly (like Toronto) and get value for him, I think that while Toronto and other teams looking for Goalies are willing to wait, Florida doesn't. (That's why I have this tade happening last) Imagine this offseason is coming to a close, all these teams have a goalie now that they've convinced themselves they're comfortable going into the season with, and FLA still hasn't moved Bobrovsky. Then you simply just might not be able to move him, because teams with cap that can afford him are usually bad so he won't waive his NMC, and good teams that might want him, already addressed goalie and probably don't have the cap to take him. If you swallow his contract this year and wait for next year, then there will be a definite cost next offseason to move him because now teams see you need to trade him to bring back Huberdeau and Weegar.

It really depends how the goalie market plays out, I have an idea of how I think it will turn out, and it's different from yours. I don't think you're wrong just like idk I'm right, but I think it'll be interesting to see how Florida deals with his contract. If Bob didn't have a NMC, I'd actually be inclined to agree that you could get assets for him but with that NMC... idk. I'm just not sure.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TampaBayLightning22</b></div><div>Jack Campbell doesn't take anything less than $5,000,000 x 5 years.

Robin Lehner doesn't waive for Edmonton.

Dallas needs RD to replace John Klingberg not a LD like Alec Martinez who just had a nasty eye injury and isn't returning no 2nd round pick.</div></div>

#1 This post is a just for fun, not meant to be taken seriously, I was just seeing what it would take to get Vegas out of their cap hell. (They had 200k in cap space with like 7 FAs lol)

#2 Freddy Andersen last season got 4.5 x 5 because he was injury prone and on the wrong side of 30. Jack has yet to finish a season as a starter without getting hurt for like 3+ weeks, he has less of a sample size than Freddy did, and he's also like 30 so it's not like he's some 26 year old stud. So a 5 x 5 or even less than 5 x 5 is actually very generous, and in terms of the years, I just put 1 cause I was just trying to put everything together. Of course Jack isn't going to sign a 1 year deal.

#3 Why wouldn't Lehner waive to go to EDM? They made a WCF, have the best player in the world, low provincial tax, and it's well documented that Lehner hates Vegas management and the front office LOL. Woodcroft is also a way better coach than DeBoer is, and it's not like Lehner is anti-playing in Canada. He played for Ottawa for what 5 seasons?

#4 Martinez played on the right when he played with Jake Muzzin back in LA check his 2016/2017 season. 45% of his shifts were on the ice with Muzzin that season who played exclusively on the left side for his entire career in LA. So he definitely has LD/RD flexibility, so while I just chose a random team that was looking for an OFD, yes Martinez actually would be a fit on DAL. The eye issue is of course a concern, and the price may not be a 2nd round pick, but I don't think Vegas really cares what they get for Martinez as long as him and his 5.9 mill cap hit isn't on their payroll and cap. I'm sure they'd even give DAL a 4th to get rid of him. For proof he played on the right visit this link:

https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_linecombo.php?select=D&amp;defenseman=TOR%3A2530%3AJAKE%3AMUZZIN&amp;games=2016-2017%3AR%3A99&amp;period=ALL&amp;situation=ALL

And before you say Muzzin's name is on the right, the pairings are by alphabetical order which is why Muzzin's name is always on the right.

But regardless, thanks for taking my completely for fun, just for memes, poking fun at Vegas for their terrible cap management Armchair GM seriously. :)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Samsonov, two veteran rentals who have little to no value to a rebuilding team that won't sniff the playoffs this season and a couple of seconds aren't the sort of return we'd want for John Gibson.

Comtois might be the best player in the second deal and we haven't given up on him yet; increasing our cap hit from $3.9 million to $6.45 million for an extra year of Tyson Barrie (who then costs $4.5 million) doesn't seem like much of an advance.

Signing a veteran free-agent LD would seem to be our first priority here, not acquiring Phil Kessel to play one year while we miss the playoffs.</div></div>

That's fair, but from my perspective, Gibson's come off 3 season's in a row where his SV% is barely above .900 and his GAA is hovering right around 3.00. Do I believe John Gibson is a much better goalie than the last 3 years numbers reflect? Hell yeah I do, but at the same time, NHL front offices who have to take on a 28 year old goalie for 5 more years at a pretty high cap hit realize there's a risk that maybe he's just not the same player he once was.

If we look at the goalie market the last few seasons, only Vasy and Bob have signed contracts with an AAV higher than Gibson. Vasy's an all world, vezina calibre goalie. He's earned his money. Bob's one of the worst contracts in the NHL, Price was good for one playoffs over the last 2 years before he's now gotten hurt and missed a season. Quick hasn't been the same goalie in terms of regular season play for a while now. Gibson cashed in at the right time when everyone thought paying your goalie was THE priority. But in recent years, the top goalies on the market haven't gotten Gibson type money. Markstrom at 6, Binnington at 6, Grubauer at 5.9, Demko at 5, Lehner at 5, Shesterkin at 5.7, Saros at 5. Most elite starting goalies now are making about 1.5 less than what you guys are paying Gibson.

A team is going to have reservations for paying a first round pick in Conor Bedard and Matvei Mitchkov's draft class when #1 your goalie is more expensive than 95% of the other ones on the market, and #2 they just have to trust their gut feeling that the goalie's numbers are bad because the team in front of him is ****. That's why I think if ANA is getting a 25 year old goalie with potential, 2 second round picks, and a valuable asset in Lars Eller that this trade is worth making. A guy like Lars Eller is a hot commodity come trade deadline time, he's a guy when teams are desperately in need of a veteran who's been through the playoffs, will shell out a 2nd round pick for. We saw Dubas move a 1st for Foligno 2 years ago when the deal came with double retention, and the Leafs desperately needed toughness to add to their line up. So really you'd be trading Gibson and 2 guys you don't need for a young starter, and 3 second round picks. That's not a bad return for a guy who's been putting up the numbers of a fringe starter the last 3 seasons.

In my heart of hearts, John Gibson's a top 10 goalie in the NHL, but the reality is his numbers the last 3 years (and that's a pretty big sample size, it's like almost 150 games lol) and his contract length and AAV is going to hinder his value to any team looking to make a trade. Teams that need a goalie right now, Washington, Toronto, Edmonton, and Philadelphia all struggle with cap issues. You can't, for example expect Toronto to give you a first and a 2nd when they only have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds in the next 3 seasons. They give you a 1st and a 2nd, they only have 2 firsts left, and then to actually clear the cap space to build a team that actually fits under the salary cap, they gotta trade a 1st to get rid of Mrazek and Holl. Same goes for a team like EDM. I know you want Gibson for a 1st and a top prospect and a young middle 6 player or 2nd pair d-man, but the reality is the market isn't necessarily in your favour at this moment. Kuemper got a first from COL but COL also didn't have unmoveable assets like Mrazek/Holl or Kassian/Barrie they had to trade and Kuemper also put up Vezina type numbers on a **** box team in Arizona while Gibson's numbers have just honestly been kind of below average.

The reality is, if ANA really is trading Gibson this offseason, I believe that if you're asking for a 1st round pick AND a 2nd round pick, you're going to have a hard time finding a buyer unless you retain or provide a ton of cap relief. If you're unwilling to eat a Mrazek+Holl or Barrie+Kassian contract package or retain 25% for 5 years, no team is going to give you 2 premium picks for a goalie who hasn't proven he's actually a premium goalie in 3 years.

Also I'm a little bit confused why you think Samsonov and basically 3 seconds is a bad return for Gibson, from my perspective, if you wanted a late first that badly, trading 2 of the 3 seconds would let you move up into the first round very easily right? Even if you didn't get the 2nd round pick for Lars Eller, if you traded both 2nds and maybe like a 4th to get a 1st round pick, Samsonov + a late first is basically Connor Timmins and a 1st for Kuemper right? I still feel like my offer is still around market value for a starting goalie but alas I suppose I could be mistaken.

Then again, I'm not a ducks fan so I suppose I don't really know what's being reported by local sources near the team. I imagine any trade you draw up for Toronto, I'd find many things I don't like either so it's all relative. That's the great thing about sports right? None of us really know anything, but the fun part is pretending and then reacting when we find out. I imagine Oilers fans woulda called people crazy if anyone ever suggested Adam Larsson for Taylor Hall but that's the way our sport works.

Either way thanks for responding, it's always nice to discuss different perspectives with different fanbases cause it provides insight on how different fanbases value different players. I try to learn and grow as a fan all the time, so feel free to hammer away at my mock trades.

P.S. I only did the Comtois trade because some Ducks fans I know said that he's probably going to get moved, and I've seen mocks where all you get for him is a 3rd so I thought my proposal for an NHL ready prospect (Samo), a 2nd, and a 3rd wasn't too bad of a return package just to take on 2 bad contracts . I really didn't think that the cap hit was going to be an issue, isn't Anaheim like 30 mill below the cap ceiling? I figured leveraging it for 2 short term bad contracts for an extra pick or so wouldn't be too bad. In my eyes it was basically a 2nd for Comtois, and then Samorukov, a 3rd, and a potential pick swap to save EDM 3/4 mill of cap. If ANA is ofc commited to keeping Comtois then such a trade wouldn't happen. Also Kessel is simply there for another trade deadline move. He kind of fills the role Rakell played for ANA last year, and if he can perform to the 50 pt pace he did in ARZ here in ANA, come trade deadline day, Kessel at 50% retained could fetch you a similar price to what you got for Rakell.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>Lol. Why would the Pens take on Marner’s 11M contract?? And retain some of Zucker’s salary too?? And trade draft capital away??

Like every team in this flat cap, the Pens are very tight on the Salary cap. We probably can’t sign all of our RFA and UFA without moving a contract too. Why do u think they do this??

To move Marner in this flat cap period, is gonna be tough, almost impossible, unless the Leafs take a major loss.

is this trade supposed to be realistic?? And help both teams??

Or u just wanted to see what the leafs looked like with Guentzel, Zucker, Marino and DeSmith.??

A video game would decline this trade.</div></div>

I'm going to be honest, the trade was originally this except you take off the 1st and we give you back Hallander or Abramov LOL. I pitched to this server I'm in for hockey and everyone basically said Toronto was getting fleeced in the deal so I reverted it. To be fair, I think any trade with a player like Marner especially with his cap hit is hard to gage, so I hope you give me a bit of leniency there lol. Zucker's retain was tough but the way I saw it is that he only has 2 more years left, 1 after next season and with Letang coming off the books it wouldn't be too much of a bullet to bite. I also didn't think you guys had that many pending contracts esp since I don't see Malkin playing more than another 1 or 2 years before going to the KHL. I figured between him and Letang, a ton of money would be available within the next 2 seasons.

We're keeping in mind the expansion draft where the Leafs will certainly protect Rielly, and have to protect 2 of Brodie, Muzzin or Holl which means Dermott will be gone. He's not getting consistent ice time with the Leafs, and it's been rumoured the Leafs want to get another top 6 option on offense (I hope to god the guy they were talking about isn't Galchenyuk). Not a lot of teams rn with top 6 guys on still affordable deals with more than 1 year of team control like Rakell who is a bonafide top 6, even 1st line winger. I like Dermott but unfortunately, they have to trade him before they lose him to Seattle for nothing. Also Kerfoot is as good as gone next year if Toronto brings Freddy back, when you say "more silly extension talk" and "they aren't happening, could you be a bit more specific? I haven't done anything outrageous, I gave Andersen market value considering Markstrom got 6x6 after a much better season that Freddy is having rn, I gave Hyman a hometown discount that he's basically said he'd be willing to take, and a bunch of random depth guys to fill in the bottom 6. Kerfoot isn't getting traded because I want him gone, he's getting traded because how else are you going to bring back Hyman, Freddy, and half your bottom 6 without sacrificing someone? I agree the Leafs are weak at center, but what do the Leafs do instead? Trade Nylander? Trade Marner? The reality is say what you want about Freddy but the Leafs desperately need him back in net for next year. Campbell is great but he is a Jake Allen type, he is not a workhorse starter like Freddy is. Scott, Woll and Ahktyamov are simply not close to the NHL at this point. Hyman maybe you say is expendable and you keep Kerfoot, but I have yet to meet a single Leafs fan who'd rather have Kerfoot at 3.5 than Hyman on a hometown discount.
