The big deal
I'd rather the Sabres target some defensive d, nasty ones, for their third pair. Time to get tougher to play against. The Sabres 5 best d are all lefties, but dahlin can play the right side. Reinbacher would be nice, but with dahlin, power, and Byram here, I don't think reinbacher is adding anything we don't have. And if it costs Quinn, I wouldn't do it.

Agreed, extremely undersized left shot puck movers, that don't provide offense, don't have any value. The Sabres gave him a little extra when they signed him to a 1.8m contract, consequently he cleared waivers when he got waived last year. Would've been interesting to see if somebody claimed him if he was making like 900k.

Nah, I'd rather the Sabres make better pieces available and go for a bigger fish. Kinda a lot of cap coming back, and nobody up front is moving out.

You think he gets it over dahlin? I think I'd prefer tuch or cozens, but dahlins gotta be the favorite.

Exploring A Skinner Buyout
Konecny is interesting, buchnevich would need an extension before I would consider that, like the demelo signing, don't like resigning Bryson, fine with moving jokiharju. Let zemgus go, it's time for somebody else. As far as Skinner, I can't imagine the Sabres would retain enough to just trade him, and with his nmc, he may just say no anyway. I'm fine with buying him out, I think the problem is less that pegula is cheap, and more that I think pegula was heavily involved with giving him the contract in the first place.

Sabres
Konecny is certainly a target worth looking at, but unless he's coming with an extension, no way I would give up this much. If you could move Skinner for that, by all means do. Even at 7.5m, nobody is taking him, and he's not agreeing to move anyways. I'm not even going to get into somebody taking Skinner for his veteran leadership. I'm trying to make sense of Cole here, I understand wanting a veteran that is physical for the third pair, but he's gonna be 36, and he's yet another lefty, plus you still have ryan johnson and jokiharju here. If that's what you are going for, would it make more sense to move johnson and jokiharju for a better, younger version of Cole, maybe even a right shot one that could play with power, and then have Samuelsson play on the third line with Clifton. Roy, trenin, and Joshua all sound like very good ideas.

Amazing Draft
The Sabres have lots of prospects. Trading for additional lesser ones is the opposite of what they should do. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones offering quantity for quality, their gm sounded like there's urgency now, it's not just letting the kids develop anymore.

I think I'd go get a 3c. I know some people want Krebs to get a longer look, I defended him for quite awhile, but I think we need production from our 3rd line, even if it's d zone starts and less offensive stuff. Adams did not sound like- kids learning on the job- was an idea he was open to.

Keller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksnOilers</b></div><div>Lmao what? Dude that package consists of a top centre prospect, a former 1st round d-prospect ready to make the NHL jump, a top 15 pick and a pretty early 2nd rounder. That's more than enough for a guy like Keller, there's only like 8-10 players in the league that are worth more than that package. If Utah wants a different package instead that's fair but the value is very much there</div></div>
That's a a top 10 pick from 2 years ago, coming off a junior season where he was over 2 points per game, a first this year that is currently pick 11, plus johnson and the second. Nobody is beating that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>What kind of season are you expecting from Byram for him to earn that contract?</div></div>
Fair. I don't know what he's gonna get. He's a 22 year old former 4th overall pick, pacing for 40 points, he's cooled off after a hot start. Even at 5, my point is still valid, we have too much tied up on defense to throw an offer sheet at hronek.

I'm doing this from memory- dahlin 11.5, power 8.5, Byram (8.5?), hronek 8.25, Samuelsson 4.75, and Clifton at 3. That's about 45 million on defense, no way that makes sense.

Pretty good post. Both players are vets, Manson provides two years of right shot, physical, defensive d. Faksa adds something similar for one year to a bottom 6 that could use a two way, physical player, that can win some draws. It's not easy to give up young players and second round picks for guys on the other side of 30, but these aren't prime assets, and there needs to be a real push towards winning. I'm open to looking for a bigger trade or ufa signing, but this does address some organizational holes.

Sabres would be a crazy hard no. Olofsson provides what kaliyev does, he alternated between being a healthy scratch and playing with hooves for hands linemates. The Sabres top 6 is likely set, they need size, physical play, and solid two way players for their bottom 6. The fit couldn't be any worse.

Adding muscle without just signing a goon
Good call, I've been pushing for stuff like this, and I am against the goon idea. Goons that can't play are a liability and frankly they lack credibility as a deterrent.

Forward depth
The Sabres can certainly use a good two way forward, but they are desperate for size and physical play too, for me it's to the point that every addition needs to be evaluated for those traits, and if they are missing, it should be a pass. So I'm at hard no until those other areas are addressed.

Stammer Time
When I think of cap dumps, I think a mid first round pick for every 5 million the player is owed sounds right. Skinner isn't a straight cap dump, but he isn't worth anywhere near 9m. If a team values the goals he scores, despite the warts, maybe they value him at 5-6m. He's not gonna be everybody's cup of tea. So minimally you are looking at at least another first or equivalent. Plus, Rosen may not be the compensation another team wants, he's an undersized (skinny) skilled forward that is learning a two way game, but his offense doesn't jump off the page in the ahl. Not to throw shade at the guy, but if I was Chicago's gm, and you are selling me on an undersized forward with mid first value, I want him to be near ppg in the ahl (it's not his first ahl season). I guess I'm saying, if Terry won't let adams retain, and he wants Skinner gone (I actually don't think pegula wants Skinner gone btw), it's going to cost additional pieces, and that/those pieces are going to hurt.

Summer
I see where you are going, redoing the bottom 6, mostly, which I'm good with, especially adding more physicality. Pesce isn't happening. And Liam Obrien is somebody I would probably pass on. The team is crazy soft, adding a thug that can't play hockey doesn't really add credible deterrent. Rather move bigger pieces for a Crouse or Tkachuk.
