The Sabres would keep Byram. I don't think hoglander has that much value to buffalo, they need a different type of player.

Trading EP40
The Sabres would likely have to move one of the other centers, probably cozens. That would be used to fill other holes and free up cap. I like this exercise because it shows what's possible if you don't get hung up on names.

Certainly would like to add Carlo. Not at the cost of cozens. There was a discussion to be had before the mittelstadt trade, doesn't matter now.

I'm trying to break down the values in the trade, and things don't add up. I suspect the op is assigning more value to Laughton (even retained!), than he actually has. Rather than splitting hairs, just remove him, and do the trade for tk.

Love it, you made every effort to fill the 3c spot, add grit to a painfully soft roster, and add a physical defense first right shot d. The bottom 6 needs a little more skill, I would suggest skipping the Joshua signing, and have Rosen or savoie fill the open winger spot on line 3. They are on elcs, plus I have a suspicion that somebody is gonna throw Joshua 4 per.
Edit- just realized Rosen got moved, so savoie or kulich. I realize kulich is closer to nhl ready, but savoie is going to be a better overall player, and I think he balances out that line better.

Trades
Adams has been forthcoming about wanting any trades to help both now and the future. I don't think there's a Sabres deal to be had, but a sure-fire playoff team would likely give you a later first plus something else.

I don't see them wanting to pay hronek for offense that dahlin, power, and Byram are supposed to provide. Add a defensive d with a mean streak, it'll cost less, and it rounds out the roster better.

SHAKE IT UP
Well, the Sabres could use some defensive forwards, wont argue that. Problem is, kampf contributes no offense at all, and he isn't particularly physical (which the Sabres should really be looking for at this point), and hes not exactly cheap. Honestly, if he was available for future considerations, the Sabres would still likely pass, if you are looking for picks like in the op, he's gonna retire a leaf.

Realistic optimistism
Philly giving up way too much, remove brink and the first. Honestly, I hear good things about brink, but the Sabres are loaded with undersized forward prospects, and there isn't room for the ones they have now. Not exactly doing him favors sending him to a team with savoie, ostlund, kulich, and rosen all competing for very limited spots.

Ya know, there was a time when this might have made some sense. Trading a very good offensive player for a very good two way player- maybe the pieces fit better, right? That's not really the case anymore though, is it?

Sabres just get a bit of grit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>You've just signed blueger, cousins, dakota to long term deals, so theres maybe room in 25-26 for 1 youngster?
Just my opinion, but I'd try and break one in this year in the bottom 6, instead of 3-4 of them withering on the vine....</div></div>
The Sabres top 6 is offense heavy. Their bottom 6 probably should at least balance out the roster by having some defensive minded players, and a few guys with jam/sandpaper/grit/whatever. The Sabres aren't exactly in cap trouble, but they probably should choose carefully, which means a 3c that's defensively responsible, but without big offensive numbers that cost extra. Which means more of a checking line (shudder!). Rosen on a elc probably works here, he should be graduated from the ahl, and he's been developed to play a 2 way game (by Sabres future head coach Seth appert). Hopefully Skinner is gone, if he ends up on the third line, he will be at center ice tapping his stick, while Rosen and the center are desperately trying to exit the zone. Then the 4th line ends up with Greenway, another defensive center, and another power forward on it, because the forwards are still incredibly soft. I don't love this build, but trying to work with the talent and finances, it's what I've got.

Preparing for Disappointment
Yikes, that would be disappointing. I think this team misses the playoffs. This is almost the same team that missed the playoffs last year, except they've downgraded from mittelstadt to Hayes, they've added no toughness (except a 4th liner), and they added no top 6 winger or anything at all on defense. Doing practically nothing would be another all time low, for a franchise that somehow keeps finding new exciting ways to sink lower.

Sabres Marino Special
The Sabres have like one top 9 winger with size and even a touch of grit, and of course that's alex tuch. They have offensive wingers like Quinn, peterka, and Benson who are already producing offensively, and they are all on elcs. Kulich is ready to graduate from the ahl, and rosen and savoie are right behind him. I'm not a fan of how the Sabres forward build is going right now, too many little guys, and the big guys play small, if they are gonna add any forwards, they need to address these deficiencies. A 6m dollar undersized winger is not on the Sabres shopping list, it's just the worst possible fit.

With the Sabres current build the way it is, I'd pass on Spence. Power is big, but he's soft as melted butter. A defensive minded d with a mean side would balance the pairing out, much much better to me.

His value is much higher than many will point to because he is part of the depth that wins championships.</div></div>

Ok. First created team. Tried to be somewhat reasonable. Got 2 bottom 6 centers for d zone starts and help with the pk. Added some much needed grit. Brought in a pair of right shot d. Added a top 6 winger (which I believe is what adams wanted to do), hopefully konecny is a guy that can help the Sabres to not sleepwalk through every second game. Promoted savoie over Rosen, savoie probably needs time in the ahl, but I think he's already better than Rosen. Something about Rosen screams anonymous henchman to me. Ostlund and Wahlberg absolutely need time in the ahl.

Yes. And he has 8 goals and 10 assists in 75 total games there.
Think of it like this, the Sabres traded a first and guhle (if you don't remember him, ryan johnson would be a comp) for montour. The Sabres proceeded to misuse montour and drive his value straight into the ground. Florida took a flier on montour for a 7th. Nobody was going to pay a first and a decent prospect by the time he was done here. I'm not accusing tampa of mismanaging jeannot, maybe his good season in Nashville was a one-off. Either way, those tampa numbers make him look like an overpaid 4th liner, I don't love jam that much.

I think you could take the first out, and I'd be fine with it. Don't get me wrong, I am all for bringing in a guy like jeannot, but at his salary, coming off the season he just had, anything approaching a prime asset is gonna be a hard no.
