How to afford everyone
Quinn hasn’t earned that much yet, might be a little high on Peterka and Krebs. Levi also too much at this point.

Just playing around with some ideas
Trading Mitts because of all the prospects you listed seems pretty silly, considering among them only Ostlund is likely to be an NHL center and not a wing. Mitts is a Swiss Army knife that can fit anywhere in the top 9. If we start him at 3C cool, If there’s a top 6 injury, he hope in and the line doesn’t miss a beat. If you expect Ostlund to come in and be 3C instead, we are 1 injury to Thompson or Cozens (both of which have missed some time this season) away from Ostlund being a rookie 2C, which Mitts’ own career shows that doesn’t usually have a good outcome.

Sabres wouldn’t do a 1 for 1 with Mitts. Mitts is younger, more productive and an RFA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames1217</b></div><div>I see the appeal for Anderson from the Sabres perspective but I don't see the need for Kuzmenko.
I<strong> also don't see how the Sabres keep all three of centres going-forward as one of the three will want more ice somewhere else and the Sabres will need to plug their holes</strong>.
If the Flames end up trading everyone than I can see a deal to he had for Ras, if they want a quick retool I can't see him getting dealt. He is too important to the team.</div></div>
I don’t really see this being an issue. Cozens(5), Mitts(2), and Thompson(3) are all each in the top 5 of the Sabres forwards in ice time per game, and each have played at least some wing in the NHL. Mitts in particular can play anywhere in the top 6, so when the Sabres are fully healthy, he can stay at wing or be a 3C with great matchups and still get PP time. If the Sabres sign Mitts for ~7.1 mil a year, they still will have 19 million to resign/replace Krebs, Joki, Girgs, Okposo, UPL, and Erik Johnson. (Some of which might be replaced by prospects).

Krebs is pacing for 15 points this season over 82 games. That is definitely not good enough for 3C, and his defensive game isn’t so strong that it makes up for a lack of an offensive game. I’d rather we used his roster spot and cap space on a 4C that is good at faceoffs (Something lacking from our top 3 centers, each unquestionably better than Krebs) for key scenarios and is good in his own end. Getting a second and Ylonen would be a good return for someone I don’t see the Sabres getting much value from. Ideally, after this trade the Sabres could add to this package and get an upgrade.

I mean, the team is not necessarily worse because we could have some internal improvement, but outside of internal improvement the roster is worse. We’re shipping off the forward who has been our best forward (if not best player) all season, along with our ~4th best defenseman, and all we’re bringing in is a guy who would be our ~3rd/4th best defenseman and some 4th line replacements? Krebs has been pretty bad this year, pacing for 15 points all season and now he’ll be 3C for a rookie and a second year player? I really struggle to see how this roster is improved.

This team is at a point where this must be evaluated
Find it silly that so many people here are trading Mitts when he’s been our best forward this season. He’s near the top of the league in terms of even strength scoring. He’s good transition (#1 on Sabres in controlled entries), and not bad in his own end. Sending him away doesn’t just make the Sabres better.

Vesey/goodrow/pitlick was just ranked 19th best xGoals% in the league. So while they don’t produce a ton of offence they also don’t allow much. Other than seeing 3.6M on your 4th line, what is the issue with him? Am I right?</div></div>
Well, one issue any team will have is that he’s been abysmal away from those two players. For 24 games, Goodrow has played with that line, having an xG% of ~56.5%. Over the course of the season, including being on a good line half the season, Goodrow has an xG% of 36%. Absolutely atrocious. Every line Goodrow is on gets worse with him on it. https://hockeyviz.com/fixedImg/replacements/2324/NYR/goodrba93/wrap

So essentially this is: trade the player who’s been our best forward this year and 2 firsts (Ostlund+Buf 1st) for Seth Jones?
Even though you bring it Laughton, I don’t really see this as a much better team, and trading away our first this year seems pretty silly if this is all you’re doing.

Pretty sure the Sabres would decline. Casey is pacing for 70 points, has good analytics, and by the eye test has been one of the best Sabres this season. That is not by any measure a 3C.

We have a **** tone of prospects and the picks don't hurt us. Plus Crouse's style would be a perfect add to are top 9. We have a team of Perimeter Pussies.</div></div>
I prefer mitts and Jokers’ contract situations to Weegar, considering they are both RFA and Weegar is on a contract that pays him like a 2/3 D till he’s well into his 30s

These trades make Buffalo worse. We’re sending out Mitts, Jokiharju, Samuelsson, Rosen, and 2 picks for Crouse+Weegar.
Mitts right now has very good analytics, with a very strong team relative corsi and Fenwick, pacing for about 70 points, and overall has been one of the Sabres best couple players this season. Meanwhile Crouse is pacing for about 55 points and has pretty average analytics for Arizona.
Weegar has negative team relative numbers for corsi and Fenwick, and surprisingly those numbers are nearly identical to Jokiharju’s. Samuelsson has worse team relative corsi numbers, but his team relative Fenwick is positive, and significantly better than Weegar’s. Weegar is definitely the better defenseman than either of those two, however he is an offensively inclined player, and we don’t need more of those on defense.

I know Pits has no 3rd pair to speak of. That doesn't help at all.</div></div>
I haven’t been watching a ton of Penguins hockey, so I’m not the most qualified to answer this, but a quick peek into his analytics show that while he’s on the ice, the Penguins get slightly less shots (relative to when he’s not on the ice and relative to the opponents), but the expected goals are pretty average (relative to when he’s not on the ice and relative to opponents). His G/60 and A/60 are both down, and the majority of his assists are secondary assists. It appears that he hasn’t been driving offensive play as well.
If you compare his analytics to years prior, with little eye test, the takeaway is that his defensive game is similar to years past, and team relative it is slightly better. However, his offensive production has fallen off, despite being given more minutes than last year.

Both trades have Quantity over quality? Usually you only say that if the quantity is garbage, not like the Matt tkachuk trade. That trade includes:
Cozens (who the athletic ranked as the 6th best u23 player/prospect heading into the season), Kulich (who is averaging near a goal a game as an 19 yo in the AHL), Peterka (who looks to be breaking out, pacing for 35 goals and 60 points, building on an elite WC), as well as 2 firsts. That is a package of both quantity and quality, and I wouldn’t want the Sabres to give it up for Tkachuk
