I just think that are RW are stacked (marner, Nylander, Moore, Bracco coming up etc...) Are left side is weak especially without patty. However I could see them keeping kappy and bringing in someone like Ferland to round out the left side.

I'm not sure Ottawa would trade Dylan DeMelo for Timothy Liljegren and a fifth. Why do you think Andreas Borgman has a brighter future than DeMelo, who appears to me at least to have already proven himself at the NHL level?</div></div>
I agree Mello might be worth some more, but he would be a great fit in Toronto. Borgman does have a bright future in the NHL, but the leafs are stacked with LHD prospects - Rosen, Sandin etc...
I actually like the Z trade. unlike most, I do believe Z has positive trade value but his contract is tough to unload. Z fits nicely in their top 4.

leafs would not trade kappy without getting a top 4 d back. I dont think patty has negative trade value, just that teams know leafs are in cap trouble.

I am not doubting pesce is a great add for Toronto. But Nylander has the potential to be a 70+ Point scoring winger (Heck even Centre). He had a bad season which is why we think his contract is questionable. I just dont want to see a repeat of the Hall trade where willy goes and wins the hart. I think He defiantly has a lot of potential still.

Nylander is worth more than pesce. He had a rough season...so did Johnny hockey after his contract negotiation. I was generous with that trade. Pesce is great, but Carolina needs to support Aho upfront.

Could this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzad96</b></div><div>Just because toronto got stupid for Plekanec doesn't make Brown worth more. He's worth a 2nd at most. Ideally he's a 3rd or 4th line winger on a good team. Only reason he'd be higher in EDM is because they have no wingers.
As for Parayko you gotta look at guys overall game when valuing them. So is he a top five defensive guy? Maybe. Idk. I don't think of players in that way. Whats his overall value he brings to the table? He's an awesome 2-3 defenseman. Could compliment a top D very well or anchor a second pair. He's probably somewhere in the 15-30 range for defenseman in the league</div></div>
I said brown is worth at least a second so we agree. Hes a 1-2 guy and honestly nuge even top 15 centre?

And Brown is hardly worth a 3rd. He will never score 20 again unless he gets top 6 minutes somewhere (which he doesn't deserve)</div></div>
Name 5 better defensive minded D's than parayko at least this year?...I didn't say top 5 d man.
Brown is playing mostly 4th line minutes, and is a pk specialist. look what he did with McDavid in jr. He can be a 20-30 goal scorer on mcdavids wing playing top minutes. I agree it would be great for Edmonton to get him. Just saying he is worth more than a 3rd. Toronto spent a second for plekanec as a rental. lets be realistic.

parayko is unreal, probably a top 5 defensive d in the league. Is nuge a top 5 centre?
Nurse and Drouin, maybe but I think Drouin still has more potential. that trade probably needs more added to it, however I cant see Montreal really wanting nurse.
Brown is worth more than a third. He's a former 20 goal scorer and will probably play on mcdavids wing. maybe a second gets him.

It also costs Ottawa very little because of the way patties contract was structured and front loaded. His salary for the 2 buyout years would be under a million

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>You're right it can be bought out. So the other factor would be the full NMC, which means only way a move like this works is him wanting to retire and allowing Leafs to move him for cap relief.</div></div>
no because when he is bought out and he becomes a free agent, and can sign a very team friendly deal. This is the stuff Pridham is made of!!! Marealu gets his new contract, and his salary from the buyout (so he likely ends up making more $ and staying with the leafs), just with a lower cap hit. This move takes a little bit of trust (relying on Ottawa (or whatever team) to actually buy him out) but I think it can definelty work!

lol, rebuilding Ottawa gets a 40 year old player for one season, in which they are trying to tank and rebuild in exchange for losing the respect and trust of every other GM in the NHL.
