Why pay so much for a 1 dimensional player you don't need? Because he's on a hot streak? He's shooting 21%. He's a middle 6 winger. The cap is going up a ton. No need to do this kind of move. You could get Garland for less and he's not a complete black hole off the puck.

On the contrary, seeing a situation clearly and accepting it for what it is allows one to invest their emotional energy more wisely. I would go as far as to say that NYR fans can probably sit out this next season without missing much. There are unlimited interests competing for your attention.

This D core is Fox. lol NYR fans love to drink our own kool-aid, pretending that Miller (Myers lite) and Schneider (Ceci lite) are more than they are. Lindgren constantly overworking himself playing #2 position when he should be a 4. Trouba should be a 6, playing 2/3. They are not cohesive, don't compliment each other and aside from the Fox Lindgren pair, don't add positive value on their own. The only team in the metro with assuredly worse D is PHI. NJD and CBJ are arguable.

People just regurgitate nonsense, I swear. No, "anything" cannot happen and FLA doing well wasn't surprise to people who know what they're watching. NYR took half a step forward while all of their competition grew by miles. This is not a serious hockey team. They only care about regular season attendance.

Jones is worth more than this but nobody is going to pay it without him spending more time in the NHL. More than likely he will go somewhere else for a 4th after not getting a fair shot on NYR, play 2 seasons producing .5 PPG and sign a 3.5/4m x 4 deal somewhere else and be Spurgeon lite.

This version is the best bet, in my opinion. I am normally a Jones guy but given the position we're in, Gus is the better bet right now. Goodrow better have a big year.

Isn't Kane out until the new year? If Wheeler get a top line spot, I'm betting on NYR to miss the playoffs before the odds catch up.

By "block" I meant "match", same thing...
Lindgren will definitely be re-signed to a 4-4.5mil contract next year</div></div>
Captain doesn't mean anything. This is a multibillion dollar industry. You're not keeping from making an essential decision because your last coach had a C sewn into his jersey.
Paying Lindgren 4.4x6 is dumb AF and you should have someone else pay that, not NYR. He's not Carlo, Marino or Severson. He's good, but he's not irreplaceable and not worth paying market value for.

There are 8 players that are eligible for the next buyout window. Buying out Trouba would be addition by subtraction. Lindgren is also likely playing his last year with NYR. They could pay to move Goodrow if they need to. They haven't tried to move him because they want him on the team.
There is no sense in "blocking" an OS. If anything you're kinda hoping for someone to do your business for you.

The absolute best thing for NYR would be if some team offered him 4x4.5 or whatever. They'd just be doing their work for them while also opening themselves up for payback. There is no OS they don't match, and they have plenty of people they can move.
He's not available. He's got more ESG than Stutzle despite playing almost no Top 6 minutes. Ottawa payed Stutzle 8.35m. Any OS in the realm of possibility is a NYR win and immediate match. It's not rocket science.

It wouldn't take all this to get Trouba. Fabbri w retention if you're trying to dump his contract. or a 2nd alone if you don't want to trade contracts. Trouba is misused by NYR but it looks like it's too late to change that now.

I wouldn't do Suzuki & 1 for Lafreniere.
Suzuki has 80 more games than Lafreniere and only has 1 more ESG despite playing top line minutes for 3 seasons.
Habs don't have a single player worth trading Lafreniere for.

Lafreniere trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Oh so close to the facts.
Most of Buffalo's other forwards are young or play a defensive role.
You left out Tuch and while Olofsson has only 40 ESG v Lafreniere's 44, Victor has 14 more total goals over that same period.
While Alex most likely has a higher ceiling than Victor, it is a bad trade for Buffalo as they also have to take on Goodrows cap for the next four years.
Too many people forget how good Olofsson is at scoring goals.
Only 17 NHL forwards scored goals faster than his 1.6/60 min last year.
He has more goals then Boeser over the last four years, playing in fewer games.
He had one more goal than DeBrincat last year with a much better +/- -23 v -33
One would never presume he would fetch an early first and a 20 goal forward as Alex did, but there will be NHL GM's who covet his goal scoring prowess.
Put him on a line with Goodrow and Victor would find the open spaces to score goals while Barkley would cover Olofsson's defensive short comings.</div></div>
You're right, Lafreniere (21) is not young. Tuch (42 ESG) has more ESG than Lafreniere (43 ESG). Olofsson is a 28yo scoring winger who is on an expiring deal prior to UFA. Look at what they've been going for. Reilly Smith went for a 3rd with years left on a similarly priced deal, and he plays a solid 2 way game.
Olofsson is not worthless but he's not desirable. Lafreniere isn't even underperforming, the internet just makes stuff up and goes with it. I wouldn't do Lafreniere for Cozens 1 for 1, because maybe Cozens will outperform his contract in 3 seasons but Lafreneire WILL out perform this next deal pretty much no matter what.
The Goodrow contract isn't bad enough to do whatever this deal is. Even with him on our 4th line, most nights Buffalo's 4th line will still cost more.

Buffalo is closer to a cup than Toronto. Whether they get something for him or not, it doesn't matter. They're paying Tavares McDavid money. They'll be rebuilding in 2 seasons. They probably know this.

If Senko wants to stay he'll need to take a bigger cut on a 1y than this. It would be bad business for everyone (assuming he wants to be a NYR long term) if he forced them into a situation where they had to move someone important or force them into an inconvenient contract situation. Everyone can be paid in time. We can't have it both ways. If he even costs 3m this year it's too big of an inconvenience.

Kane is going to sign midway through the year wherever he wants at league minimum/1y. There is no reason NYR couldn't sign him.
