Realistic ?
Johnson was brought in to play top minutes, and needs to play with an offensive defensemen. Letang is just to reckless, in his own end at times.
Sprong has clicked really well when playing with Sid, and can fly as well as shoot, Horny sitting on the 3rd gives them a balanced and legitimate 3rd line to eat real minutes and score

Schenns in Pen's Uniforms
Schenn's are good players, not superstars, but if you look I'd take two competent NHL's for a star "Potential" defensemen any day.

Unbalanced 3rd and 4th line, no way you play Bennett there.

Then he has to stay with the big club he isn't waiver exempt, and with the expansion draft you risk losing him next year anyway

No way Gonchar is a 2nd Pairing, will be signed to be the 7th Defensemen, and to mentor Plotnikov, like he did with Malkin.
Sestito Probably start in AHL this year.
Still think JR has something working to get out of Scud's contract, and sign a Volchenkov or Franson

We are in a win now mentality, and you still have a few prospects left in the pool, namely Sprong, Simon (2014), Angello (2014), Jarry, and an assortment of others. Not Deep at all but, The Stanley Cup is the ultimate goal for this year and next. You can still pick up a few picks along the way as the season goes along.

So what would you give up for JVR, take Clandening out, and put Domulin In? Get rid of the Picks? Give me an Idea as a Leafs fan what you consider a fair package.

Looking back at your rude posts, and considering that all you do is post incorrect info Semin to Pittsburgh, never get Kessel, oh and the classic Bennet will never return to Pens
you should first think of an orginal idea yourself, and quit being a typical "yinzer" and look beyond your limited knowledge, and ability to grow as a person.

What about Rob?
I think you are all way off base with Scuds, and here is why.
Terry Pegula has deep pockets, and is in a rebuild phase with a new coach, and a lot of younger players
Bylsma loves Scuds, and always has. This is the place most likely for a trade with (Scuds having to agree to it)
They will pick up a contract, but you will have to sweeten the deal. There goaltending pool is terrible.
There are no real prospects in their organization.

UFA Signings/ and call ups:
1st Volchenkov is a perfect fit for the 7th defensemen, able to bring a steadying force to the youth, and also a great mentor to Kulikov
2nd Upshall may not be the force he once was, He is still an Agitating, fiery complementary winger who can play both wings
3rd We can Start the season with Sunqvist, if he works out great, if he just isn't yet ready send him down.
* When Fehr is ready make the decision to send down Sunqvist, or waive Cullen to become cap compliant

3rd Heatley is a bit of a stretch, but as a 2 time 50 goal scorer he has the ability when paired with playmakers, and if dosent work out he'll look ok suiting up for the Baby Pen's

The Buffalo Trade isn't bad, they need a good goal tending prospect, and scuds would fit in nicely there (Baylsma likes Scuds alot)
He is in New York close to his family and can finish his career in a place of low stress, with a couple of cups already

What is it that you would have excluded from the Deal for Falk? Carolina would want a whole lot for him. He is one of the League's Premier young Defensemen.

Trading Scuderi makes sense, Buffalo is in desperate need of goaltending prospects, can afford his salary. Dan Bylsma Loved this guy for his "Leadership" and steady veteran presence. He can communicate what the new coach is thinking, and what he expects. They receive as compensation an elite goal tending prospect that will be wasted if left in the Pen's organization.
Buffalo rids itself of the odd man out in Foligno
The St Lois trade is a little crazy but gives them a good mix of young Defensemen, a couple of good forwards, and two 2nd found picks (Shakes up there team)
Pens receive a promising young forward and a very good defensemen in Shattenkirk
The Free agent signing of Volchenkov is a perfect fit as the 7th defensemen, he doesn't have to play everyday, and give the pens a Shot Blocking, and Hard Hitting option on those nights the "Kids" need a rest or are having adjusting to the NHL schedule

I Think That all roads leading to fixing the "D" is trading Scuds, I like Lovejoy as a 3rd Pairing, but I see Value in his cap friendly contract.

3. Heatly/ Sutter/ Yak
4. Upshaw/ Chip/ Duper

You have to look at reasonable moves that make Hockey sense In the AZ trade I gave up a scorer and a pick, but also shed salary needed next year to sign some of the youth. projecting for the long term not just this year. As for the pick we have a short window to "Win Now" and can slowly restock over the next three years Gave up a 2nd on Yak, and moved a good young goalie prospect. The 3rd would really be one of the compensation picks, also you have a deep UFA class next year.
