Retool continued while trying to remain somewhat competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MT9</b></div><div>You guys know you are right there to win a cup. Tom Willander looks to be a good prospect but its a longshot he is even as good or has as good a career as someone like Faulk.
Thought you wanted to get out of the Garland contract and Kuzmenko doesnt fit. Before the season you guys wanted to do anything you could to get rid of Meyers.
Buchy is a huge upgrade in your top six and Faulk is a huge upgrade over someone like Meyers. Neither are UFAs. Tom Willander is hardly a massive price to pay for these upgrades. Once you put a name to some of these 1st round picks they really do become untouchable to fanbases.</div></div>
Willander was drafted to be Hughes long term defensive partner. Garland has been one of our best forwards this season, he’s not being moved. He’s been crucial to our 3rd lines success as one of the best lines in the league. Kuzmenko can be moved in the right deal. Myers has actually been okay this season, and his expiring cap hit makes him manageable
Faulk hasn’t been that good this year, and his long term contract will make it more difficult to sign Pettersson and Hronek this offseason as well as Boeser next offseason. Not very interested in him. Kapanen is also a big downgrade on Garland
Buch is great and I’d definitely be interested in him, but Willander is not available for him. Neither is Lekkerimaki, but all other prospects would be

Terrible for the Canucks. You aren’t getting Willander, and Garland won’t be moved in season
1st + Kuzmenko + Brzustewicz for Buch could potentially work for the Canucks, but definitely not anything involving Willander

Monahan to Vancouver
Suter and Monahan aren’t that far apart, and having Suter at 1.6M for next year is valuable for the Canucks
The gap between the two is much smaller than a 1st

Cup Run 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sedin33</b></div><div>I agree that Guentzel gets a first and a prospect. Can you give me an example of that type of trade (top prospect + 1st) for a rental winger? Not questioning whether you’re right, just curious as to your definition of a top prospect.</div></div>
Giroux traded to FLA saw Owen Tippet, a 1st and a 3rd go to PHI. I think that's probably the best comparable.
The Janneaot trade to Tampa had Cal Foote getting moved not to mention a 1st, 4th and 5th.
The Timo Meier trade saw SJ get Shakir Mukhamadulllin
Lehkonen had Justin Barron go to MTL
Barbashev was traded for Zach Dean
These are just a few I found really quick, but also remember that it's not very common for forwards of Guentzel's level to get moved.

Byram blockbuster
I believe the rumor was Colorado turned down Cutter Gauthier for Byram straight up, even wanting Philadelphia to add in more. Can't imagine a middle-six prospect and 1st rounder are anywhere close to Colorado's valuation of Byram.

Why would the Canucks trade away 3 solid roster players for scraps, including a player we already traded away?

crazy world where leafs are sellers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sedin33</b></div><div>Are we talking about the same Max Domi? If so, have you watched him this year?</div></div>
You mean the Max Domi that has never found a permanent home and has been traded numerous times only to be shown to not be a difference-maker? GM's need to learn that role-players aren't needle-movers worth moving 1sts for. There are very, very few players that are worth a 1st in a rental situation that are going to clearly raise your odds of winning the Cup to justify the cost of acquiring them.

Canucks decline. Domi returned a 2nd last year with Chicago having to take back a $2.5M cap dump AHL goalie and give up a low tier prospect. Domi has been worse this year, maximum I’d give up for him is a 3rd.

You are not getting Raty + 3rd for Domi. Domi went for a 2nd last season when he had 18g/49pts in 61 games and the exact same cap hit.
Domi only has 4 goals and 23 points in 43 games. You'd be lucky to get a 3rd for him this year.

Leafs truly go all in
Swapping Myers for Brodie doesn’t work for Vancouver. Tocchet doesn’t like LHD/LHD pairings and this would force him to run two since we’d have 5 LHD and 1 RHD

A Basic TDL
You aren’t getting a 2nd round pick for a #6/7 dman who’d be a healthy scratch for the Canucks the rest of this season. I’d pay a 4th for Kovacevic but nothing more. Depth dmen don’t have that much value
