Retool continued while trying to remain somewhat competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MT9</b></div><div>You guys know you are right there to win a cup. Tom Willander looks to be a good prospect but its a longshot he is even as good or has as good a career as someone like Faulk.
Thought you wanted to get out of the Garland contract and Kuzmenko doesnt fit. Before the season you guys wanted to do anything you could to get rid of Meyers.
Buchy is a huge upgrade in your top six and Faulk is a huge upgrade over someone like Meyers. Neither are UFAs. Tom Willander is hardly a massive price to pay for these upgrades. Once you put a name to some of these 1st round picks they really do become untouchable to fanbases.</div></div>
LOL. Maybe Willander's career isn't as good as Faulk. But Faulk's career is worse than Orr. Should we sign Orr instead? :tearsofjoy

Not the one that proposed the trade. Only reacting to it. I believe a Toronto fan proposed it.

Cup Run 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>I think you're saying that because you're not familiar with them. These are all former first round picks all within a couple of a years of their draft years and Tippett was a highly touted prospect.
I'd say that Hoglander nor Pod are any higher than those prospects were at the time. Tippett was certainly a higher pedigree than either of them.</div></div>
Both Tippett and Pod were drafted 10th overall. I think they’re quite comparable. When Tippett was traded, his value had come off considerably since he had not established himself in the NHL despite lots of chances. Very similar to Pod. My point isn’t that Vancouver’s prospects are better. It’s that the trade value for the rentals weren’t premium prospects. If Vancouver offered a first and Pod, that would be comparable value

Cup Run 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>Giroux traded to FLA saw Owen Tippet, a 1st and a 3rd go to PHI. I think that's probably the best comparable.
The Janneaot trade to Tampa had Cal Foote getting moved not to mention a 1st, 4th and 5th.
The Timo Meier trade saw SJ get Shakir Mukhamadulllin
Lehkonen had Justin Barron go to MTL
Barbashev was traded for Zach Dean
These are just a few I found really quick, but also remember that it's not very common for forwards of Guentzel's level to get moved.</div></div>
Thanks for that. I think the prospects weren’t top prospects. Tippett had lost some lustre by the trade. Some good ones, but not A level.

Cup Run 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>Then it would be unlikely you'd have a compelling enough deal to get Guentzel if he were to become available. Jake easily gets a 1st + top prospect. Lesser rentals have received that much. It just comes down to which team it makes the most sense for. I said this in another thread, but I don't think VAN should be hunting for a top-six player.</div></div>
I agree that Guentzel gets a first and a prospect. Can you give me an example of that type of trade (top prospect + 1st) for a rental winger? Not questioning whether you’re right, just curious as to your definition of a top prospect.

Podkolzin is probably one of their top ones. I'd prefer Hoglander if that would work. I'd really do Hoglander + 1st and call it a day. Let them ship off Kuzmenko to another team to make space.</div></div>
I understand your opinion. I think if the Pens can get > a first and B+ level prospect, they should take it. BTW, I wouldn't include Hoglander, Pod, Lekkerimaki, Willander, or Ratu.

Minimal Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jim_Benning_Almost</b></div><div>I think the current management is going to try to sign Zadorov long term. That leaves Cole as pretty much the only expensive player who is expendable. That or Garland if they think they can replace him for cheaper (which they likely could).</div></div>
I think they would have signed him already if they wanted to. They did it with Kuzmenko last year. His reported price is $5Mx5. Little chance the Canucks can afford him beyond this year.
Even if they get Tanev, Cole is still important. Tanev has had injury issues. Need someone who can play RHD/LHD well. Soucy and Zadorov are not comfortable on the right side.

Cole is one of the few that has playoff success. I could see Zadorov before Cole

Myers is playing well right now. He's playing about 20min per game and has worked well with Zadorov and Soucy. He's well liked in the room. Doesn't make sense.

Your Vancouver trade makes no sense. Subtracting a top 10 goal scorer that already works, adding a young NHL player with upside and a second. Doesn't put Vancouver in a better situation.
