Sakic and CMack would hang up the phone. Makar isn't going anywhere especially the Senators. This is a joke right.

Yeah but the Sens could have offered him $3.5 million and still have enough for Pinto.

Pinto certainly didn't put Sens in semi cap hell. Three buyouts, Murray's retention, signing Tarasenko and Korpsialo.
Maybe Dorion should have been on CapFriendly to see how the cap works:laugh

Ottawa Senators signed Jake Sanderson (8 Years / $8,050,000 AAV)
Love this deal. He skates really well, cna get himself out of trouble, smart with and without the puck, makes very few mistakes, takes very few penalties , a very good PP QB. Doesn’t make flashy plays but always makes the smart plays, active stick, defends very well, uses his body very well, very very good in transition either with the puck or joining the rush.
He’s not gonna be elite at one specific thing but he’s very very good at everything. Gonna be underrated his whole career

sens after senko
So the question is how to fit Pinto
He will most likely be offered something similar to Kevin Labanc got in 2019. He signed for 1 M$ for 1 year after a 56 pts season (career year). He probably got promised a nice extension as he left out money on the table to help out the team's cap situation... which is why he ended up overpaid
But still need to shed 1-2 M$

Will be interesting to see how Pinto gets sorted out. 20G last year — would be a great addition to this lineup.
Excited to see this team in action. Also curious to see how the cap gets managed to make it all work.

I think tbh this is what the Sens will start the season like, then we’ll trade for someone else to try to make a playoff push.

I feel bad for Sens fans if Im being honest. It sucks DeBrincat in Ottawa ended this way, and the return is nothing to write home about. This is terrible for Dorian.
For what it's worth, Kubalik is very good if he's played right. Seems like a Senator through and through. Let's not forget, he was a calder finalist and looked good with Detroit. Not too sure about Sebrango, would've prefered the Sens to get a Berggren. Getting a pick bad isnt half bad either
Obviously Detroit wins the trade. Getting a guy who can net you 40 goals is a win, especially considering the contract the Wings got him at. It might not be the package you deserved for DeBrincat, and it is pretty terrible, but there is atleast some upside.

Ottawa Senators signed Jorian Donovan (3 Years / $818,333 AAV)
Crazy there's as much concern about this contract as there apparently is. The difference between him making $950,000 vs like $863,333 or whatever is so meaningless. If you think Shaun Donovan has any sway in contract negotiations you don't have a clue lmao.
For a 5th round pick Donovan looks really good. He's got a good pro frame that he'll grow into, and he's got really good skating. Idk how much offensive skill there is there, but there's certainly an NHL Dman to be forged out of the skillset he does have. Be someone to look out for this season. Will have a bigger role this season with the Bulldogs after spending last season further down in the lineup.

St. Louis Blues signed Jordan Kyrou (8 Years / $8,125,000 AAV)
Even as a Blues fan, I am very skeptical of this deal. He’s fast... but he doesn’t play defense and gets muscled off of the puck too easily. When he gets moved down in the lineup (as Berube does, when you aren’t performing), he tends to be very pouty in his body language and post-game pressers. I hope he makes me eat my words, but I don’t think JK will ever be a franchise corner piece, because he isn’t a team player! There’s a reason he wasn’t on the 2019 SC Team.

Amazing contract, his agent should be ashamed. I hope he earns his money after this season, and this opens up a lot of cap space for LA too. I thought he would've gotten way more so a really good job by Rob Blake and I wish he has a good year

On the RD we have Jones, Murphy, Regula and Mitchell not including the guys that can play on their offhand (still man and C.Jones played there last year)
Im not disagreeing with you that we could look to take Zaitsev and the value isn't too bad although the lateness of the 2nd rounder would be something KD would struggle with based on the moves he's made to date. I feel we have plenty of RD and if we move Murphy it makes it more viable to execute a move like this.
