If you're willing to do "whatever it would take to get him," then you should be willing to give up Brayden Yager.
Pretty straightforward.

If Lou Lamiorello wants to spend what he got yesterday on Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>1. He was... Otherwise he wouldn't have been hired in the 1rst place
2. OTT had games in hand most of those teams...
All OTT needed to do was win the games in front of them and they would have clinched... To suggest that they were heavy underdogs isn't a very well thought-out comment or recency bias</div></div>
1. That's because the guy that hired was Eugene Melnyk.
I recommend reading these two pieces by Ian Mendes to get a good glimpse on how competent Melnyk / Dorion actually were.
It's crazy.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3243198/2022/04/14/eugene-melnyk-ottawa-senators/
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4802912/2023/11/03/ottawa-senators-pierre-dorion-fired/
2. Ottawa did not have games in hand over Buffalo or Pittsburgh and those two teams were ahead of Ottawa in the standings on March 1st, 2023.
https://www.nhl.com/standings/2023-03-01/wildcard
Buffalo even had a game in hand over Ottawa.
All Buffalo and Pittsburgh had to do was keep pace and stay ahead of Ottawa.
Buffalo and Pittsburgh would then have clinched and Ottawa would have missed.
And that's without taking into account the need to leapfrog Washington and Florida without stumbling.
That made Ottawa a clear underdog to make the playoffs.

If Lou Lamiorello wants to spend what he got yesterday on Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Lindholm is a tier above Chychrun and Anaheim took on a multi year cap dump.
And Lindholm had an already agreed on extension in place before the trade (the only delay was because of how retention works)
There will not be an extension in place on Chychrun. So he will not get any added value ther</div></div>
Lindholm was not a tier above Chychrun when he was traded from Anaheim.
And in exchange for taking a multi-year cap dump, Anaheim got a depth defenceman that was a former 1st round pick.
And it is common for a team that is trading a player to give permission to seriously interested teams to negotiate an extension with said player.
In Chychrun's case, the 5 week wait until July 1st is nothing more than a formality.
And how do you know there will be no extension in place for Chychrun ??
Why would the team trading for him not want an extension in place ??
You're only going down this rabbit hole that has absolutely nothing to do with the Devils because I committed the cardinal sin of suggesting trading the #10 overall pick for Markstrom.

But he's the GM of the Isles.
And his trade history suggests that if he wants somebody, he pays the price for him.

If Lou Lamiorello wants to spend what he got yesterday on Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>“Traded with extension” isn’t a real thing that increases value meaningfully. It’s even less of a thing when said player is not even eligible to be traded with an extension.
It’s a thing fans use to pretend their rentals aren’t rentals and overinflate the value of their assets</div></div>
Yes, it does.
Hampus Lindholm fetched a 1st + two 2nds after having a mediocre season with Anaheim and signed an extension with Boston the next day.
And it doesn't matter that Chychrun needs to wait 5 weeks for the extension because the extension will already be ironed out and agreed to beforehand with the team that acquires him.
There's no pretending here.

The team that trades for Chychrun can sign him in July.

The GM of the Isles is an octogenarian that spent a 1st + a 2nd on Pageau and then the #13 overall pick on Romanov.
You don't speak for him.

In fact there’s less risk to buying your rental at the deadline</div></div>
Except that Chychrun won't be a rental when he signs an extension with the team that trades for him.
And there will be other teams that will be interested in Chychrun for which a playoff run isn't even a guarantee.
If a team risks waiting until the deadline to trade for Chychrun, it might be already too late if that team is in grave danger of missing the playoffs.

1. If you think that Dorion was competent enough to place a value on a draft pick, then you're just as competent as he is.
2. On March 1st of 2023, Ottawa had to leapfrog the following teams to clinch a wild card spot:
Washngton
Florida
Buffalo
And then either the Pens or the Isles
To suggest they were anything but a heavy underdog to clinch a wild card spot at the time would be optimistic at best.

You don't get to decide what a normal trade return is for Ottawa.
And the team that trades for Chychrun will get a full 82 game season out of him at 2.3 million.
As opposed to when Hanifin was traded as a pending UFA at the deadline.
