<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Someone else floated this idea the other day and it's just. not. happening.

You literally think that Toronto is going to get Florida to retain 4x$5M, &amp; send you a 30 goal scorer with a sweetheart 2x$3M deal, just so they can "dump" Bobrovsky and get a late 3rd round pick back?

First strike: name me a team that has ever retained *that* much money for *that* much term. Know why you can't really find one? It's because it'd be easier to just buy him out and absorb a *slightly* larger cap hit if they really want to get his deal off the books - $5.75M this year, then 3x$6.75M in years you assume the cap goes up by at least $1M, then 4x$1.75M - not ideal in terms of the length but makes more sense than adding Duclair - I'd rather have the 30 goal scorer this year and next and pay an extra $750K/$1.75M then send him away to save those hits.

Second strike: why would Florida be so desperate to get rid of him? He put up a .913 SV%, 2.67 GAA, and 8.6 GSAA this season. He also led Florida to their first playoff series win since *1996*. Wouldn't it look bad to your fanbase if you jettison the goalie who helped bring you there as soon as possible, in addition to giving up one of your top scoring wingers with him? I'd have to assume that Florida wants to keep contending and Spencer Knight doesn't look fully ready for primetime yet (.908, 2.79 GAA, 0.5 GSAA) - he's still only 20, so that's fine! Give him another year of not having the carry the full weight of the team and let him grow into the role instead of just shoving it on him before he's good to go. If this year's playoffs have taught us anything, having a solid backup is incredibly important and as long as Knight is on his ELC I can't see the Panthers being super desperate to dump Bob.

Third strike: Bob's got a full NMC! Even if Bill Zito suffered some traumatic brain injury that made him thing it was good business to retain 4x$5M so he can trade his starting goalie &amp; a 30 goal scorer for a 3rd round pick, Bob will make sure it doesn't happen by staying in sunny southern Florida and vetoing this deal.

Bonus strike: Look, you know that you're not getting a free 30 goal scorer, right? So if you want to spend 4x$5M on a goalie with numbers like, that, why don't you sign Jack Campbell (.914, 2.64 GAA 10.0 GSAA) and get the same production from a guy 4 years younger (and 4 years further away from his decline).</div></div>

Yes, it is crazy to retain that much money, but you all need to freaking chill. That is what KYPER said he is hearing. KYPER. Not the Author. KYPER. THAT is what's being reported. It's not the author of this post pulling it out of his ***. So when you people comment on these things, you need to do some research and chill on the author lol. Some of you on here, man lol
