After this draft, San Jose will have a top-3 prospect pool (if not #1). I think Grier has done very well.

And yes Wilson left a disaster one of the worst and weakest prospect pools maxed out cap situation with aging players and no real assets to make this a fast turnaround/ retool like they said they wanted to do.
Karlsson having a 100pt season and playing all 82 was such a blessing to be able to move him without retaining 1/2 his deal! Hertl had value and sad to see him go but Grier is right that it needed to be done.

Should get alot more hate (although we all have tried to tell sharks fans for years)</div></div>
Wilson gave us 15 years of teams that were cup contenders (just never got us over the hump!) and I get he was trying to go for 1 more run but at some point the bill is due and that’s what we are dealing with. I don’t hate Wilson for his work and what he did because at some point this was inevitable. But he did set a bomb us before he left the house!

Bystedt is a good prospect with an NHL ceiling but still think we could have had him with our 1st 2nd and gotten Lambert as well! But I don’t hate that draft.

Canes decline. He's signed long term to a good value contract, he's 23, and he's still the youngest center on the roster. It's much more likely Drury (whose asked for a trade) or the shell of Jordan Staal get shipped out of town.
I hate that Chatfield contract too. He's not good. Actually a lot of these contracts are all over the place. Teuvo isn't making 6, you're underpaying Jarvis AND Necas. Why is Kochetkov the starting goaltender when Freddie is still clearly miles better?

The original ACGM poster is a troll, check out some of their other team posts.
That being said, Orlov struggled the first couple months with the Canes (so did Burns and Hamilton). While he might be a tad overpaid by AAV, but it has one more year and is not worth it to the canes to dump him.

Schmidt has played like a 3rd pairing defenseman, no better, no worse. Its just that his contract is inefficient. I think his position on the Jets is safe for this season.

Yeah he's been decent, while overpaid he's made a very solid 3rd pair with Samberg and can still handle 2nd pair minutes when required, he's pretty good depth to have, would need Schmidt more then Barabanov for a long playoff run.
Just not worth a 1st to dump Schmidt, better to keep him for this playoff and buy him out in the summer if necessary.

Sharks 7 TDL Moves Sign Guentzel Reinhart Hanifin Land Celebrini
I feel like a lot of these prices are optimistic.
Duclair MIGHT be able to get a 2nd if a bidding war starts with how teams overpay at the TDL, but for that price it's almost certainly using our final retention slot. I also think if any team's going to give up that price for a rental it's unlikely to be Philly. I know they're in a playoff position but they were not expected to be a playoff team yet so I don't see them spending high picks for rentals.
Barbie for a 2nd is extremely optimistic considering the season he's had. I know there are mitigating circumstances with the broken finger, covid, and how bad the entire team has been, but he hasn't looked good and hasn't put up points. Last season I could've seen it...there was even a mock draft on the Athletic where someone traded their 1st (IIRC it was pick 31 but the pick had been flipped multiple times so I forget who the team was) for him on draft day. This season I think a 3rd is probably the high end with a 4th being more likely.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>If you'd actually watched him play this season with the Sharks, you'd know that he's been excellent even against top competition and has absolutely been a pleasant bright spot this season.
Granlund's legit good. He was God-awful with the Pens, yes, but he's flipped an absolute switch this season.</div></div>
Granny's been good this year but the fact that he was so bad he needed to be sent away largely as a cap dump aspect of a trade likely drives down his trade value.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>Yes of course, I was just saying the taxes generally dont matter as much as a teams situation. It is a factor but not a super important one imo. SJ hasn’t had an issue with it in the past and i wouldnt anticipate it in the future. Also using a players nickname when its how the team almost always refers to him is perfectly fine for example Barbie = Barabonov or slippery pete = eklund.</div></div>
I've been calling Eklund "Ni!" I'm sure nobody will know who I'm talking about when I refer to him as that so in discussions I try to refer to him either by his full name or a more common nickname. I heard some people calling him Ekky and started thinking about Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Knights who Say "Ni" became the Knights who say "Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptang Zoo Boing." Yes, I'm a nerd.

That's true. If Mario gets moved I'd like to see a cap dump trade from a playoff contender for an overpaid vet D - thinking like Schmidt or Suter, not that they'd even waive.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>Couture hasn’t indicated anything of wanting to leave, and it would be hard for him to go, I imagine, without retention. So i think he would go with two years left on his deal when the burns retention is up. Hertl is gonna talk to management in the off season, but i think griers goal is to be pushing for a playoff spot by 25/26, I would say rn 60% hertl would stay. Sharks could easily eat the 7 but i dont know if they would love the term for that.
Edit* I would guess Ferraro will stay, but I just wanted to try something different, Grier already said he wont sign older(ish) UFA’s long term.</div></div>
It also depends on what teams are willing to offer for someone like Hertl. He is a top centre in the league probably leaning more to the 1B category of centres on top playoff teams. Could easily see offers of top picks, prospects and decent roster players that would entice Grier to make a move. Off the top of my head I could see the Jets or Bruins making large packages that would be hard to turn down.

I think Barb or one of the goalies could net more.
I thought I read Grier offered to take Campbell on for a 1st and a 3rd. Again, rumor, but what if we sent Blackwood back to EDM retained. Does that 3rd become a 2nd?
What if we can get Campbell to retool next year and someone grabs him for a 2nd or 3rd in the future (he'd be a future retention)?
I feel like the assets would stretch better on a different trade.

What could we look like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>Don’t think he is fit for a bottom pairing role and aren’t you set on your right side for a long time?</div></div>
Far from true, at least with the right side being set. The plan for Thompson is to probably slot him into a top 4 role next to Hedman or Sergachev, pushing out most likely Raddysh to be a 7th D-man and Perbix playing 3RD. Our right side is by far the weakest with Cernak's injury issues, and Raddysh and Perbix both being inconsistent at times, though Perbix is the more defensively responsible of the two as of late.
Thompson would be a home grown product and one that at the age of 22 (next season) has the chance to develop from a young age into an effective top-4 guy, something we definitely need going forward with Hedman getting older.
