<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFinn91</b></div><div>Well a player that’s 4 years out fits the Sharks timeline better anyways.

Thrun has been fine, but he was traded for a 3rd rounder less than a year ago. What has he done to increase his value in that time? Not even be good enough to always be in the lineup for one of the worst teams of all time.

So what if the 1st rounder is late. The Sharks grabbed Musty with a late 1st last year. Good players fall in the draft all the time. You could also use this pick with the Pit 1st to move up in the 1st to grab another high end prospect.</div></div>

No they don't. Sharks should be competing in 4 years, not debuting new players hoping they can be Calder level players, unless your goal is to perpetually rebuild.

2023 was the deepest draft since 2015. Musty caliber players won't be available this year. And the sharks struck gold with him and even then you have no idea how he'll pan out when he jumps from Juniors to pro, and then from AHL to NHL. Coe was a steal, Bordeleau was a steal, Blichfield, Chmelevski, Chekhovich were all steals at one point. All these guys had monster junior years and never panned out in the NHL (Bordeleau still has potential).

As for Thruns value. He's playing better and better literally everygame. He has great potential as a two-way d-man and has debatably been their second best d-man behind Ferraro since getting called back up. On top of that, we got him for a 3rd because he was going to be a UFA in 3 months because he didn't fit in Anaheim's system. That's actually a decent price to pay given the risk, but it worked out because the Sharks played him in the NHL at the end of the season to burn a year off his contract
