taking advantage of the expansion draft
You better also be taking Koskinen or Neal on that Fleury deal.

Maybe I'm bullish but I think there's a lot of potential for a productive 3rd line not sure what the combination would be, maybe Neal gets switched with Nygard or maybe marody or benson shock everyone and come into camp ready for the show.

Jp getting a shot at mcdavid's line depends on whether mcdavid wants to play with him because in 2017-18 and 18-19, mcjesus didn't want to play with him you never know</div></div>
I heard McDavid didn't want to play with JP due to JPs bad positioning, theoretically that should have improved along with the language barrier if he truly has been working on his english.

Thats kind of ridiculous no offense they were second in the pacific with weak puck moving there puck moving has now increased with Barrie replacing Benning, and defensively Jones/Russel can make up the difference for klef. maybe the overall defending goes down a small bit but the 3rd line should be significantly better to say that they won't make playoffs is ignoring alot of facts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eclipze</b></div><div>Kassian and Ennis are not top 6 forwards. They can fill in if need be but my guess is JP gets a shot at McDavids wing first. Neal can’t play 5v5 he’s better left on the bench until it’s time for a PP. I don’t mind Kris Russell or Jones getting a few looks at top 4 but they really need to find a top 4 LD. Jones wasn’t too bad this year when Klefbom was out with injuries but you could tell he wasn’t ready for that role and Russell has regressed to a bottom pairing d over the last 3 seasons.</div></div>
I hope the JP gets chance but I want him to earn that chance on the third line first. I'm more optimistic on the LD they will defs struggle without kelf but Jones I think is poised for a breakout year and if not Russel can hold his own defensively on the second pairing as long as he's with a good puck mover.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Why are you hiring Galchenyuk, and why are you giving him so much money and so much term? What has he done to deserve that contract?</div></div>
Galchenyuk averages about 50 points a season, the going rate for a winger is roughly 1 mill per 10 points. It's also Edmonton so we have to overpay by a bit in order to bring in free agents.

Well golly gee that looks like a cup contender
Overall I like it a lot.
Might be a struggle to get Nurse at that deal since a very good comparable is Josh Morissey and he got 6.25 mill. But that's a pretty minor detail. the last thing I'd do would be attempt to get rid of Chiasson and replace with a guy around 1 mill that way if minor injuries come up we have the flexibility to bring guys up from the farm.

2020-21 Oilers
you under paid everybody, nurse will get more than Morrisey who got 6.25 mill so expect nurse to be in the the 6.5 to 6.75 range, bear wont do a 3 year deal try 2.5 mill for 2 years, and even that is team friendly he'll push for a 1 year contract. the JPG deal will definitely be more but will depend heavily on how he does the rest of the season but expect him to cost 4 to 4.5 mill.
imo i wouldn't resign Persson, both Russel and Jones are competent on there off hands and then resign laggeson and/or benning to be your 7/8 D. Also consider trading one of those rfa's for bottom 6 wingers instead of signing free agents. khaira is also not a reliable 4C Id rather resign sheahan.

good point on the draft pick forgot forgot about that,
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>If we're talking Johnsson I'm all ears, but I really don't think much of Kapanen.</div></div>
is Johnsson actually much better? stats wise it appears like Kapanen will put up slightly more points, is Johnsson more physical?
either way i think either one of them would be an upgrade in the middle 6 and we need to move benning to make space for some of the younger guys.

I'd say goal tending is the only question mark here. Can Binnington actually be a solid number 1 goalie or was last season an outlier.

Why isn't ROR playing center?</div></div>
Because he's an amazing player but not a better center than McDavid, Crosby, or Bergeron. So it crates a better team to move him to the top line LW and get him on the ice

hmmm I didn't remember that they can go over the cap in the off season. Thats a good point might be better off sending a 2020 1st and a b level prospect and see if they bite otherwise yea 4.1 would be the better way to go.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ConnorsCousin</b></div><div>I like the reasoning but I don't like you've got Benson, Jones, and Marody all slated in your roster. IMO they need another year in the AHL to prove this year wasn't a fluke. Let them develop and then push for spots next March</div></div>
I definitely agree with Benson but the other 2 I think have developed well and there should be no reason (other than poor play) that they couldn't step up to the show and be eased into there roles.
