Im happy to have positive discussions, but Canadian fans seem to focus on the french canadian aspect, and alot of these proposals are crazy one sided.
If we just look at counting stats ignoring ice time, and other factors laf can be seen as a bust, so I understand why hab fans view him as a reclamation project.
But the other side of the coin is, when you look at how much ice time he gets, and the lack of true powerplay time, he's a legit middle 6 player at 21 (which is rare) and he's got a ceiling to push further with more time and more pp time.
Replacing a player who puts up 35 even strength points isn't difficult. Doing it for under 5 million is.
Players who put up similar even strength point totals, and their even strength minutes and salary
Anders Lee - 36 ES points - 14:07 - 7 million
Andrew Copp - 36 ES points - 13:58 - 5.625M
Jake Debrusk - 35 ES points - 12:57 - 4 Million
Alex Debrincat - 36 ES points - 14:53 - 7.875 million
And Laf's numbers for comparision
35 ES points - 13:48 - (expected 2.5 million)
The only player who put up more es points in less time is Debrusk and hes about to get a raise over 4 million.

We aren't talking about McDavid here l, we are talking about a 3rd line winger who is far from living up to his draft hype. Just to make this clear, he's already at 21 a middle 6 player.
Even if he's not a super star already, any move the rangers make for a prospect, would mean risk, since they're not established NHL players.
The 24 unprotected is nice. And probably a requirement here, but this move still makes the rangers weaker short term and long term.

My only change would be Lindgren/schneider.
Give Trouba the puck mover.
That 3rd pair becomes a bigger shut down threat, and forces schneider to move the puck more, pushing his growth as well.

Learned from the first offer sheet with KK and Aho
The offersheet has to go over 7m to be unmatchable.
The rangers would match at 6.3 by moving goodrow and then jones in separate deals.
You're also giving up an unprotected first round pick, from a team that was just in the lotto, and hasn't added any major piece that should play immediately... I dont think Laf takes the canadians from a contender for 1st overall, to a playoff team.

The gap between DeBrusk and Laf is not in the bruins favor...
I get that laf has underproduced as a 1st overall. But he's a middle 6 wing, making an expected 2.3-2.5m, and has team rights for the next 3 years after this season.
Debrusk is a middle 6 wing making 4 million and a pending UFA.

I mean if someone were to do that offer id move goodrow without hesitating. 5 years... He's still a 40 pt player. Im not losing that for a 2nd round pick.

I'd say laf is the one being underrated here.
A player putting up points for a terrible team with being fed minutes is usually the sign for regression on a real team.

A 2nd round pick, who's not a high end prospect and a 22 year old who produces significantly less than laf in significantly more ice time?
NO.
JFC Laf put up 36 ES points in barely 15 minutes of ice time a game.
I hate to break it to you, but thats essentially a 50-60 point player with a reasonable amount of ice time ( that includes power play time)
So no the rangers aren't trading a 1oa, who hasn't broken out yet to superstar level, but is clearly a middle 6 player at the moment, who isn't insanely expensive yet. For 2 players that don't improve the team in the short term OR the long term.

Right, and im saying that trade isn't going through. And the Hab's can only threaten to OS up to 6.4m (which the rangers would be forced to match) or 10m+ for the 4 first round picks. So its not a great threat.

You're gonna need to up the offer to at least 2 firsts.

Using Suzuki as a comparison. Ignoring Zegras's first year since he only had 24 games(and put up 13 points)
Comparing them at the exact same ages. (Zegras's first full year in the NHL is his D+2, Suzuki's first year is also his D+2)
Zegras played 75 games, put up 61 points
Suzuki played 71 games, put up 41 points.
The following season (D+3)
Zegras 75 games, 65 points
Suzuki 56 games, 41 points.
Zegras had a better two seasons before his RFA contract. When Mckinnon signed his contract, and then broke out, it didnt mean mcdavid was hampered by that number.
Zegras is worth more than 8 million.
Im not even touching Cozens. He barely put up any numbers until this year so again not a valid comparison.

Trouba has an NMC, Rangers don't have to trade him and that isn't close to his value.
Now that the Pittsburgh and Carolina possibilities are off the table, I think that the chances of Anaheim trading Gibson are virtually non-existent, and we wouldn't want to trade him someplace where half of the fanbase doesn't know enough to appreciate him.</div></div>
I understand that hughes is at 8 million, and thats potentially the standard you're using for zegras.
But hughes before he signed that deal, had worse years than zegras. His underlying numbers were great, but he was not a 40 goal scorer.
He broke out post contract.

The rangers moving Chytil would be the most short sighted move since erat for forsberg.
The rangers moving Chytil + schneider for scheifele stanley is terrible. We cant afford stanley's RFA number without moving Miller or Laf (which isn't happening)
The rangers moving Chytil + Schneider AND A FIRST? Unless Mcdavid @ 50% is the other side of that trade, its not happening.

His cap hit doesn't hurt the Wings as you pointed out. That second retention slot is more valuable when the Wings are dealing a Perron/Kubalik/etc. at the TDL.</div></div>
And as I pointed out, you can't bury 100% of his salary in the minors. You would be left with more than 750k in cap space on the books if he's in the minors.
Thus retaining 400k technically free's up 350k for 2 years.
You're allowed 3 retention spots, but yes they are valuable.

You're talking 2 seasons of 400k. You're not spending to the cap currently, and you get a different long shot prospect.
The pick is minimal.
But if you attempt to buy him out the following year you pay more than 400k AND you lose more than that over 2 years.
And considering he cleared waivers, you're not losing cap space on something like that.

Team that claims a player off waivers has to take the entire contract, and the player can't be sent down to the minors or he goes back to the team who put him on waivers.
I did think a team like pittsburg would claim him, try him as a reclamation project with crosby, but they dont have the cap for it obviously.

I think the value is slightly low on the chytil miller trade, but its not terrible value if it wasn't for the fact that the rangers would be the most short sighted team in history to pull that trigger.
It would be 1 year of contention for almost a full reset afterwards.
The first is nice, but it wouldnt be in play for several years, and miller and chytil are 2nd line and 2nd pair players now chytil is locked up for 4 years, and miller will likely get a 2 year bridge.
