<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lunatik</b></div><div>Tanev isn't the reason Calgary gives up more goals, he's been on the ice for considerably fewer ES goals than anyone else in their top 4, and if yoou honestly believe he "isn't what he used to be", you haven't actually watched him play, he hasn't fallen off at all.</div></div>
I think everyone gets hung up on rookie fever even though this draft isn't supposed to be nearly as deep as last year. Tanev is worth the late 1st, especially retained.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>So...it's a weak draft...and a late first shouldn't be take as similar value to, say, a late first last year.
Do I want to give up a first for Tanev? No. But I can see it happening. This package is too rich...but maybe Tanev + some depth piece.
Or something like a 1st + 4th + ahl player for Tanev + 3rd
Hopefully treliving has a solid understanding of what Tanev wants on an extension...if that's not something he wants to commit to, I don't think he should give up a first for a rental.</div></div>
Flames should add a bottom 6 forward (Rooney, Duehr, etc) and Leafs should remove the 3rd and 5th

Flames fans how we feeling about this trade
I don't think the trade makes sense for either team. Flames are better off keeping Markstrom to mentor Wolf (even at $6m per season) unless there is a deal you cant turn down and I don't really get why Ottawa would trade for Tanev unless its a sign and trade. With one year left they might be better off taking a shot at him in free agency.

Lets Talk About Sharky
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Danz_10</b></div><div>I think you might have this wrong, as it seems like Sharangovich might be the player to build this around.
A young second liner with a fluid shot, who came from a skilled team is a solid asset. If they waited long enough on Zary, he's likely their top-line center. These players (Zary and Sharangovich) make a solid center duo, anchored by Backlund and Schwindt on the third and fourth lines.
To me (opinion), this says Calgary sees Kadri, Coleman, Markstrom and their potential UFAs on defense as their trade chips for a retool/rebuild with a fast transitioning. Adding a playmaker like Kuzmenko to Sharangovich might smooth things in the long-term.</div></div>
You're not wrong. Keeping him could be the best option.
Like <a href="/users/dgibb10" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@dgibb10</a> said, the problem is the Flames signed him to a 2 year deal. So it comes down to a value proposition. Do you trade him at deadline or offseason to get value out of him? Do you hold and see if he continues the success and then pay him a ton of money and over a longer term? or if you hold him and he has a down season next year, you let him walk, but in the mean time, you didn't get anything for him and had him take a roster spot from a younger player who might have been able to show something.
Who knows

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>I liked the trade for Calgary, didn’t like the contract. 2 years seemed like the worst term. 1 year and you could have seen what you had and still had RFA rights. More years and you have more control. 2 years walks him right to UFA. Best case scenario you sell him as a rental or have to pay him a boatload of money on his next deal.</div></div>
Feel the same way. Figure moving him at the deadline or end of season is the best option from a value perspective.

Would be different if he were a center.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>What position does he normally play?
He seems like a shoot first type player, but the rangers need a play driver on the top line for Mika and Kreider. Also the risk of him going back down to his usual self from his Devil days</div></div>
Plays all three positions, but has mostly played the wing this year.

Completely agree on pairing Zary with Huberdeau.
I think Huby needs a younger guy with speed to open things up so he can make plays. Whether Sharangovich or Kuzmenko are on the other wing doesn't really make a difference to me since they have both shown they can score goals.

I would think it'll be very hard for Backlund to return a 1st. Probably going to be closer to a Toffoli return.

Good trade for both teams. There was almost no chance the Flames could get a 1st this year with how deep the draft is said to be. Flames got a good young player with potential, Devils get a playoff player. Let’s all relax and see how Sharangovich does.

Granlund is hard to move. Why would Montreal literally throw away a 3rd line center (yes he's overpaid, but still not a throw away)
CGY would want your 2023 1st and a much better prospect than that-which I dont think Pittsburgh has..</div></div>
Personally, I’d do 23 1st and POJ or Smith for Hanifin

A new French Connection
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slater417</b></div><div>It wouldn't. But the rangers will need young (read :cheap) talent to infuse their roster with a high end potential. Laf is going to be bridged, maybe even signed long term to a relatively cheap deal, anyone we move for laf will either be expensive (and can produce more than he does) or cheap (and produces less), so the rangers will need that high ceiling cheap player.
As much as laf and kakko haven't reached their potential per their draft profile, you can't entirely discount that as their ceiling still.</div></div>
I don’t think you’re assigning enough value to playoff type players and the impact they have. Completely understand that if Kakko and Laf hit their potential, it would be a huge boost. However, if they continue on the trajectory they are on, there would be a significant drop in value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slater417</b></div><div>Per Laviolette's press conference Both laf and kakko will be put into positions to succeed this year.
Hence "no price"
Youd have to massive overpay, which would be a top 4 pick in this draft, AND a top 6 player on a cheap deal already.
The rangers are trying to win now, while the kids are cheap and Laf (for all his flaws) is a top 6 player, so you can't ask the rangers to stall their run, while they've got another year of Kakko at 2m, shesterkin at under 7m and chytil at 4m.</div></div>
How would a top 4 pick help you win now?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Onlyfairtrades1</b></div><div>There is no price, he is signing a bridge deal. So “there is no price” indicates that not even an overpay would get him… I get it, he was 1st overall and you want that type of return, but if the Rangers aren’t going to put him in positions to succeed, why not move him for pieces to actually help you win in the playoffs. And I’m not even referring to the Flames trade, just in general.

I will say that I appreciate the effort put in here, makes it easier to see where you’re coming from.
I think the Florida trade is good for both teams.
I think the Pens trade would have to be 24 1st+Smith for Toffoli. 24 1st would likely be later than 2023 1st, but I’m all for them getting a 23 1st and a player for Toffoli.
Flames should pass on that Caps trade, I think there will be better offers.
I can’t see Ottawa trading Batherson for Backlund and Vladar
