things capitals care about in order
1) top priority ... ovechkin goal record
2) compete / be good enough to sell tickets
3) makie playoffs
4) win cup
9) player development

Trading McMichael
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>I think the Caps can hold onto McM.
GMBM wants McM to get minutes at center. Eller should be the odd man out since he's on an expiring contract. Next season, if Lapierre is ready, you can bring him up and if you keep Strome and move him to the wing.</div></div>
no way the dont play Eller... imo THEY should just trade him for any type of return but we are talking about the Washington Capitals. We played Chara over Seigs.. sign Panik over playing Stephenson. Theyll send him to the AHL and kill a year of development. not to mention why would he sign long term with the Capitals?

It's been 5 years of everyone doubting MacLellan and saying that this is the year they finally fall off a cliff, and yet he continues to make good moves and they continue to be a playoff team. A whole lot of people owe Mac an apology

Adding youth and talent to the lineup
LA wanted him to but Cal has not taken the net yet. As such, the Kings are not in a position to trade Quick. In addition, they don't really need the relief from his cap space at this moment. They'll keep their franchise goaltender and give him the option to retire next year or sign a much less impactful 1-2 year contract to back up Cal when he --hopefully-- does take the reigns.

Wtf are we paying to dump Jensen,? He was really good last year. He could get you a 3rd maybe even a 2nd. I would try to extend him. That trade is really bad.
Sammy might get you a 2nd…? Maybe slightly more to an optimistic team

Curious About this Trade Down Caps Fans
Depends a lot on who is left on the board once it gets to pick 20 and who else is available to take backstrom's spot at 2c. I think Dvorak demonstrated this year that he isn't a 2c on a stanley cup winning team, but would be a pretty good 3c. Value is probably fair, but obviously couldn't give a definitive yes or no until the draft

Can't because Wilson will be coming back in Jan / Feb. Gotta save at least his salary in that 8.5 mil.

Lets fix the Caps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Czu8iks</b></div><div>I am pretty sure Canucks decline. They are not trading their top liner and cheap RHD for lower level prospects, 30 yrd AHL and late picks from 2023.
Trocheck decline.
Lyubshkin decline - not giving discount for being scratched.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Czu8iks</b></div><div>I did quick check on the prospects. I may not know them, like at all.
Iorio was 2nd 55th pick last year - 365 days from 54 teams not selecting him.
Lapierre was had worse point production in MQHL than Sabres prospect Oliver Nadeau.
Hathaway is bottom line winger, who in certain enviroment may not crack the roster - hence AHL bound.
Those are not top tier prospects, who get you 99pts center with cap retention and his linemen from top line of 92 pts team...</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>Hence the "not saying that's the package required to get Miller" comment.
Lapierre is still a solid prospect with top six potential. Iorio has solid upside, and posted 44 points in 60 games as a defenseman in the WHL. Hathaway is a bottom line winger on the Capitals in terms of the lineup, but if you watch the Caps, the fourth line is the Caps' shutdown defensive line. They skate a ton of minutes. He's more of a checking focused bottom six winger, but he's certainly not a fringe NHLer or someone who will be in the AHL.</div></div>
This comment has nothing to do with the trade or a package deal for Miller. But I gotta say, your first comment is absolutely outrageous.
Straytru20 is spot on: Lorio is a puck moving RHD with high potential. Lappy is a speedy center with great puck skills. Both are very young and have been both projected mid to top line NHL players.
But the funniest thing you said is Hathaway being an AHL player...the dude had 14 goals this year while playing on a primarily shutdown defensive line under Lavy's system. He is physical, loves to play in front of the net, and plays a style of game similar to Wilson (which any team would love to have apart of their team). But yeah...a dude who scores 14 goals is 100% an AHL player...

youth supplements the aging core
I think this is fair value for scheifle but I also think both that NHL GM's will pay more for him than I would and that he is not the right kind of center the caps should go after. Even when Wilson comes back 7 mil is a lot of space that they should spend on somebody if backstrom and hags really are done.

Value on Graves deal seems fine. But I doubt we would do that at beginning of year, but maybe at deadline if we are out of playoff picture.

Lines i would love to see
Ovi Kuzy Sprong
Sheary Backy Oshie
Mantha mcm Wilson
AJF Dowd Hathaway
Sprong had weirdly (a word?) great chemistry with Kuzy last year. he also plays a responsible 200 ft game
Sheary and Oshie will be a solid / meh line that can create chances without being a liability
Mantha and Wilson will help McM by surrounding him with talent
4th line is just so damn good i love them

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>what's the price for Gibson? Goalie trade values are all over the place.</div></div>
The thing about a Gibson trade is that there's realistically no reason to make it without being absolutely blown away by an offer. His age and contract fit the current timeline. IMO, you don't just trade him to trade him. If you're the Ducks, you've got that position filled, so you continue to build around it.

Hahaha I’ve basically done this trade for Copp many times and some loser said the Jets wouldn’t want Eller. It’s funny cuz the Trade makes sense for both sides. They get a 3rd line center for less than what Copp would want and stastny’s money is off the books for DuBois. It’s a trade that could actually happen

When everyones back
I'm not sure I entirely agree with your reasoning. I would like to see a younger lineup in the playoffs but I don't think it is necessarily what the team needs to succeed, or that it is the be all and end all. While I would like to see McMichael come playoff time, I don't think it is entirely the right decision to trade Eller right now. He is a great 3rd center and I would want to keep him in the lineup if possible. I would much prefer to put McMichael on the wing for the year and slowly bring him into a full time center role.
I'm not against a Hagelin trade, should the Capitals be confident enough in their PK, but I think you could get a 4th for Hags, as he is an elite penalty killer. I personally don't see the value in starting Protas right now, and if it is between him and AJF for injury issues I would rather play AJF.
Finally, I don't see the Caps sending down Cholo and I think that if they really need to, they will dump Irwin. I get this feeling as last game the Caps went with Cholo off the bench instead of Irwin.
