This team will be one of the best in the league
don't understand why so many people are hating on the MoJo signing. He can play any forward position and is getting $1.1M. You can just bury that contract in the minors if you have to.

Realistic and worst case offseason
One thing for certain is that the goaltending would be mightily improved. Might keep them in the playoff race until Wilson comes back.

Aggressively Pursue PLD
Honestly, this is a cup quality team if goaltending pans out. Could need a LHD at the deadline, but overall, this team is just deep up front.

Based on what GMBM said in his post-elimination presser, I would be <em>shocked</em> if both VV and Samsonov were back as the goaltending tandem. My expectation is one will be dealt (probably Samsonov because he'll have the most trade value as a former first round pick) and one will be retained to be the understudy for a veteran starter that'll be brought in via trade or free agency. I actually think a trade is more likely for a veteran goaltender because the market is so shallow for starting goalies that the prices will be sky high.

Trading Dubois to the Rangers using the Eichel and Reinhart trades as templates
Personally, I don't think the Eichel situation is something that can be used as a measuring stick for a return in a trade. Eichel was never going to play in Buffalo again, so Buffalo literally had no leverage. I don't think Winnipeg is in the same spot, and I wouldn't be surprised if the ask was Kakko+ for PLD.

I think that's probably what makes it even IMO. In this scenario, Sandin would be in the mix and would make moving Orlov a little more palatable.

Adding youth and talent to the lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>LA wanted him to but Cal has not taken the net yet. As such, the Kings are not in a position to trade Quick. In addition, they don't really need the relief from his cap space at this moment. They'll keep their franchise goaltender and give him the option to retire next year or sign a much less impactful 1-2 year contract to back up Cal when he --hopefully-- does take the reigns.</div></div>
thanks for the thoughtful feedback!

Maybe Quick retires a King, maybe not.
With what money does Tampa sign Palat to that contract?

The Caps are not going to be paying assets to move Eller when there's nearly $12M in space created by Hagelin and Backstrom on LTIR. Eller is still an effective player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ihopeigetit</b></div><div>why do you think he's not?</div></div>
1. He has 1 year left on his deal
2. The Caps have plenty of cap space with Backstrom on LTIR, so they don't need to pay to shed his salary
3. He's scored at a .43, .52, and .57 PPG pace the last three seasons with not a ton of PP time.
4. He can fill in at 2C for short periods of time, giving roster flexibility
Is he going to net a big haul? No. But the Caps aren't going to pay to offload his contract.

Vlasic is an anchor. Like really bad. This team needs more youth, not a below replacement level veteran. If GMBM made that trade, I'd want him fired lol. The Sharks would have to pay a premium to offload Vlasic's contract.

Easy cup 2023
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ihopeigetit</b></div><div>still 1.8M in real dollars. Dont really get your point - the advantage in this is that other teams are more likely to accept their contract bc it helps reach the cap without having to pay as much money. He also has to fail a physical to go LTIR - can't just scam the league if its not legit. You better hope he doesnt get healthy at some point?</div></div>
He has a career threatening eye injury. It's a long shot he comes back at all.
I'm saying, why give up a second round pick plus other assets that have varying levels of positive value to dump Hagelin? It's not worth it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ihopeigetit</b></div><div>Management still has to pay him real dollars. It's a business that wants to minimize expenses at the end of the day. Why didnt caps just trade for Bishops contract and get a free 7th Rd pick? Bc it costs them money.</div></div>
Hagelin is due 1.8M in actual salary for this season while his cap hit is 2.75M. It's actually more advantageous to use his cap hit on LTIR to grant more space than he's actually due in salary. Not to mention, this trade has dumping his contract with a year remaining on it with a solid 3C, a decent third goaltender, and a second round pick for a third.

Curious About this Trade Down Caps Fans
Dvorak is a pretty good player. That being said, if the Caps are looking to replace Backstrom's production at 2C, they'll probably target someone with more point production than Dvorak who has a PPG pace of 0.5. Could just be that he hasn't been surrounded with a ton of talent in his career yet, but the Caps can't really take a risk on a player to breakout at such an important position with where the team stands at the end of the Ovi era.

If you want a goalie of Gibson's <em>perceived</em> caliber, it's going to be pricey in a trade. Especially with a fair amount of goalie-needy teams potentially inquiring on him since he has term on a contract that isn't very cost prohibitive.

Yeah, I think that's clearly cap circumvention. It's one thing if it's a sign and trade on an RFA or something, but with 50% retention for multiple years is another
