Toronto Maple Leafs signed David Kämpf (4 Years / $2,400,000 AAV)
so many people here will reveal how little they know about defense and two-way contribution
kampf is a black hole offensively but does so much to shelter teammates

I truly believe he's worth it if healthy, but also absolutely shocked they made this investment after he got 850K this year and has barely played since then

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealisticGuy</b></div><div>No. You’ve been here long enough, you should know 1 way deal or 2 way deals doesn’t affect waivers. He is waivers exempt for 2022-23, after that he will fight with Montembeault to be Allen’s back up in 2023-24. Whoever win the back up spot stays in the NHL, the other (probably Montembeault gets waived in Laval)</div></div>
i think montembeault would get claimed before reaching laval... unless he's terrible this year and more expensive next year, he would be an upgrade at backup for chicago or arizona or even winnipeg... but its possible habs just let him walk as rfa next summer rather than extending him if primeau looks ready

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Turbo</b></div><div>Thanks, always forget about that PB rule. I figured he might take the 2-way given the Hawks situation and he's somewhat established but a trade is always possible and he did get sent down for a short stint early last year so I guess the solidified salary is more valuable at this point. Hopefully just pennies to him by the end of his career.
Plus I think his QO is much lower than I originally thought</div></div>
yeah i hope hes up all year... i could see him having chemistry with Reichel since both speak German as their first language, but Kurashev is definitely among the most skilled players there right now

cant have performance bonuses unless its an ELC or 35+ contract or if player was injured the year before...
probably this will be one way tho, whereas his QO was 2 way, so itll guarantee him more in case he got sent down, and deter hawks from sending him down

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pinslack</b></div><div>Bergeron with that contract might be the #1 bargain deal of the entire league, IDK what more do you want from him lol</div></div>
again you're not wrong, but if this is really his last year and trying to win, he COULD have taken 750K to help the team, and chose the money
it's not like he hasn't made plenty in his career, and sure he could have gotten more, but he isn't doing what helps the team the most here

i agree bergy is worth this contract, but he still could have chosen to take less, knowing the team is tight to the cap and likely to lose craig smith bc of it

San Jose Sharks signed Mario Ferraro (4 Years / $3,250,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>What would the contract look like though? Ferraro would probably want 4-7m aav which could turn out bad for the team or him (maybe he signs 4x8, adds some offence and then regrets a 4m aav). Or he’s not worth 6.5m at 8 years and it causes a void within the team/ player relation due to expectations and criticism. Also the Sharks don’t have money problems in 4 years which is when his deal is done so why stress?
In 4 years only Karlsson, Hertl, and Couture will be under contract with presumably Meier. All (assuming Meier is under Tkachuks aav so let’s say 8m). Would be 35m in 4 years (Karlsson 1 year left) and we can also presume the NHL’s salary cap limit will be much different in 4 years. Let’s say Bordeleau and Eklund have amazing season and take up 10 more mil combined. That’s 45m with Ferraro needing a new deal.
Pretty sure they’re fine for now and you’re looking way to far ahead in terms of stressing a guys deal out. He wants to see if he can earn more money and the team wants to see if Ferraro can improve more or if he isn’t going to evolve much more.</div></div>
it's just a risk they wouldn't bear on a 2-3 year deal is all... we've been surprised by UFA's on the market before, and he will be a UFA at the end of the deal... but clearly mike grier isn't worried

San Jose Sharks signed Mario Ferraro (4 Years / $3,250,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jamnjon</b></div><div>This is a 4 year deal. In 4 years, if Vlasic isn't bought out he will be off the books. If he is bought out at some point before then, it will be $1.2M to $1.7M of cap hit, depending on when exactly he's bought out. Burns' retained salary will be off the books, Labanc's contract will have ended and, barring a resurgent season this year, he'll either be gone or making less.
Literally the only things on the books after this contract expires are 1 year of Couture, 1 year of Karlsson, 4 years of Hertl, and the final year ($1.67M) of Jones' buyout. Of course there will be other contracts signed in the meantime, but as it stands now they're not in too bad of a position cap-wise at that point. Hell, looking at his last few years, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Karlsson's on Robidas Island (permanent LTIR) by then.</div></div>
it's just a risk they bear if something changes - which wouldn't have been an issue on a 2-3 year deal. that's all

they have a lot of money on the books for years to come... if he wanted to stay, its surprising they didnt go 8 years already... maybe they buyout vlasic by then or move EK65, but one would think hes a guy you'd want to go 8 years with

Seattle Kraken signed Ryan Donato (1 Year / $1,200,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jr400</b></div><div>Thanks for that explanation. It didn’t make sense to me either. I guess they weighed the risk of losing him as a UFA versus the possibility of being stuck with paying him more than they wanted to, and they decided they’d rather risk losing him.
But isn’t there a rule that says that the team can refuse the arbitration award and let him go as a UFA at that time? I think they can only play that card once per year, but after Geekie signed, Donato would have been their only arbitration case.</div></div>
i think theres a limit like its only on deals over $4M or something, not if it's $2M
