What could we get for him and do any of these work
I think I could be swayed on Ekblad or Parayko, but it would be an agonizing decision

Erik Karlsson
I feel like based on those contracts Petry and Karlsson have pretty similar value. But with Petry you still have an extra 6.5 mill to work with. Mete, Domi, and Juulsen are up soon and it would be nice to add another forward

Is This Trouba Trade Fair Value
Money wise the Panthers would probably be a better fit with Point needing to be resigned this summer. But they don't have anyone like Sergachev to send back so the value might not be there for the Jets

Calgary Flames signed Luke Philp (2 Years / $925,000 AAV)
U Sports Player of the Year, AB kid, cheap contract, will play in Stockton and can contribute at some point during this contract in his prime years. Instead of waiting on a 19-20 year old's second contract to see them play, looks good to me.

Leafs RFA Offseason Keeping the Squad Intact mostly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trickster</b></div><div>You think holl is ready for 2nd pair d man role?

Holl is kinda just there. I think Rosen or Borgman could end up ahead of him. I think Ozhiganov probably goes back to Russia to make more money, he has good CORSI numbers but has been largely sheltered and mostly plays against the bottom 6 so I don't see Dubas spending much money on him. If he would take less money to stay in TO more power to him tbh I've liked what I've seen from him. Really don't see much of a difference between the two I think they can both play pretty dependable 3rd pair minutes or top 4 if paired with a strong partner. This defense core is weak on paper for sure, but 3 really trustworthy players with 3 guys to fight for the last top 4 spot until Sandin and Liljegren are ready.

Off-season Regroup
I like your thought process here, some creative moves. I really don't think Marner will take a discount, no one takes discounts unless there are tax breaks (i.e. Tampa), maybe 10 mil/2 years but it's tough to leave money on the table. I like the Kadri trade and think it could work out for both sides. I like the Brown move but would like to see a bit more going to the Leafs. If Ottawa is sending Demelo I think they would need more than that, it would be nice to get rid of Gaborik's contract, but I think there are other dmen they would move. I also don't think the Knights would give up Miller so easily. Karlsson hasn't replicated his high shooting% season and his stats are showing that that season was largely luck based. Karlsson is still a good player and is worthy of an extension, but I don't think it'll be that much of a raise. If Vegas needs to get under the cap there are a few others (Reaves, Eakin, Holden) that aren't as valuable as Miller.
It's going to be a tough offseason for sure.

I don't see him being traded at all, he won't waive his NMC to leave this team unless it was to SJ. I see him retiring or returning for one more year in SJ after his contract expires

Putting the Canes as Contenders
Leafs get too little, Kings get too much. I think it makes more sense for the Leafs to get Faulk with another prospect going to the Canes. I don't believe Quick would make that much of a difference for the Canes to give up Necas and Fox. Quick is having a down year so you could try to buy low, but I think this is an overpay. Goalies can be really weird sometimes and it can be hard to pay that much for one, look at Lehner, Greiss, Kuemper, Halak, Khudobin, Brossoit, etc. As long as the Canes can get average goaltending they'll be fine, maybe using their cap space for Bobrovsky or buying low on Schneider would work out better.

New Pens - 3 Team Trade and Offer Sheet
I could see those trades working out. I don't know how likely Fenton would be to give up Fiala, especially for an aging Kessel. Toronto do doubt matches the Kapanen offer sheet as well.

Line up additions and lines 2019-20
I think Toronto would sign Kapanen to that contract right now if they could. It would further the cap crunch, but there are options to move out contracts to create some space. Kapanen would have a 5 year run at the playoffs signing that contract with the Leafs while playing with Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, etc. As well, the compensation is just too low so matching is an easy decision, Kapanen is worth much more than a 2nd so giving him up for that and cap space wouldn't make sense right now.
