Vancouver Canucks signed Quintin Hughes (3 Years / $1,604,167 AAV)

Quoting: rebecca

Story is he signed on condition of burning off a year of his ELC. Otherwise he would return to college next year. Not crazy about the strategy to willingly a burn off a year of an ELC, esp with the way RFA salaries have escalated in the past year. He has 3 more years til he would become an UFA and I doubt he would hold out that long. Would he stay out of NHL and risk injury for next season (and 2 more after) regardless? Unlikely. GMs in the NHL need to start showing more backbone with players with no leverage. ??♀️

Quoting: JakeD

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he needs to play in at least 10 games in order to burn a year off of his ELC, otherwise it would slide. With only 13 games left, one would hope that management would give him a 9 game try-out and allow his contract to slide and therefore, begin next year.

Quoting: HockeyWise

If he plays his 9 games he burns a year on his ELC and (I think) he’s eligible for Seattle Expansion Draft.

His entry-level signing age is 20, and therefore he is ineligible for a slide. If you look on his player page you will notice the blue slide arrow is missing: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/quintin-hughes

Vegas Golden Knights signed Mark Stone (8 Years / $9,500,000 AAV)
I am a HUGE Stone fan!..... but 8x9.5 is steep...
VGK is going to get 5 elite years of him and then he's going to fall off a cliffff... He'll have a hard time keeping up with the play.....
I compare him to Perry (ish)

Quoting: tatatavares

This does not make signing Marner any easier
It was so smart for the Bruins to sign Pastrnak early before he had proven himself and before star salaries escalated as a percentage of the cap

Amazing, isn't it? Pasta, Marchand, and Bergeron all signed long term at incredible bargains. As far as Marner goes, he's obviously much younger than Stone, but Stone is one of the top defensive Forwards in the game and he's about to set career highs offensively, too. Marner should've been extended last summer and now it's gonna cost TOR $9.5M+ AAV. Dubas better get him for the full 8 years at least.

I DONT UNDERSTAND BERG AND OTTAWA
The biggest problem is that Josh Brook and Eric Brannstrom are not close to equal value right now. I'm not saying Josh Brook is a bad asset, but right now Brannstrom is one of the best prospects in the world. A 19 year old kid that's produced in BOTH the highest levels of the world tournaments and in the AHL for the Wolves.

I think Pittsburgh wins because Tanner was doing nothing for us. Gudbranson could improve greatly with the influence of Gonchar because the skills that Serg has Gudbranson needs. This is the key element and Pittsburgh had to add a D man.

Gudbranson was a perfect d-man for a different era : really big and really mean. Those attributes are far less useful now, he hasn't surpassed 15 points in a season. But Pitts has injuries and I guess that forced their hand. And the per-season cost is pretty much the same.

(OTT/CBJ) - Duchene, Bergman for Abramov, Davidsson, 2019 1st and a conditional 2020 1st round pick

Quoting: Brian2016

And CBJ might not even make the playoffs! Big gamble! This was a good deal for OTT, but everyone keeps thinking about the original Duchene trade last season which was a downright horrible idea. The longer they waited to trade him this season, the less the return.

Quoting: Brian2016

OTT also has a better shot at a higher draft pick from CBJ than they'd have w/ a team like WPG or CGY. CBJ will likely lose in the 1st round and the pick will end up being a mid-1st.

But lets assume Ottawa just traded Turris directly to Nashville (they definitely had that option).
Here's what Ottawa gave up for Duchene (pick values):
1. 1st round pick | 001 overall - 2019 | Jack Hughes???
2. 1st round pick | 028 overall - 2017 | Shane Bowers
3. 2nd round pick | 042 overall - 2014 | Vlad Kamenev
4. 2nd round pick | 047 overall - 2016 | Samuel Girard
5. 2nd round pick | 058 overall - 2018 | Filip Hållander
6. 3rd round pick | 063 overall - 2019 | To Be Determined
7. 6th round pick | 150 overall - 2018 | Hammond's Trade Value
And if that pick becomes Jack Hughes .... it's worth three Duchene's on it's own.
I won't even discuss the Hoffman and Karlsson trades ....

OTT got something, which is better than nothing, but they didn't particularly hurry up the day when the team could be a contender again. Their biggest gain is freeing up ice time to audition a lot of players, and dropping in the standings to get a higher draft pick. However if there is any crackdown on corruption and lobbying, the franchise will be cutting spending to the bone and scouting or player development will be dropping off

The real dissater was trading for Duchene in the first place. Can you imagine the fan outrage if OTT wins the draft lottery and COL ends up with the #1 overall pick? WOW.

You can not trade a matched offer sheet from 1 year of first refusal.

They aren't winning anything with high paid injured players that are hanging around for a while.
If they trade Gibson, they can get higher draft picks while still selling a fun game to fans where they lose 8-7. (the TOR/BUF/CAR model?)
ANA will probably produce another elite goalie before they miss having Gibson.
I'd want more high picks to present it as getting the next Getzlaf and Perry, although goalies always go for cheap in trades.

Gibson is signed for 8 more years after this one. He’s going no where. But even if he were to be available it would take the farm to get him.
