Pittsburgh to Vancouver via New Jersey
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Yeah, I understand being apprehensive of making such a bet, but on the ice, Miller plays nothing like Barclay Goodrow or Blake Coleman. He doesn't throw the body to anywhere near the same extent as those two guys do</div></div>
I'll admit, I don't follow Miller's game a ton so I can only really go off of what those like Marek, Friedman, and a couple of scouts say about how he plays. Although it doesn't have to be barrelling towards guys and throwing big hits, even being overly physical in board battles and in front of the net can start to wear on players. The biggest point for me is I'm not the biggest fan of giving a 30-year-old that much money to play on a team that is at the very least 2 years away from making real noise in the playoffs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>How does he play the type of game that doesn't age well? You've given no basis for that argument</div></div>
Miller plays like a power forward. That puts a lot of stress on the body that will inevitably catch up to him in his 30s in a way that it won't for more finesse players. That is aside from any injuries which will speed along the deterioration in play. Additionally, as the league gets younger and faster, I believe he will start to have a harder time keeping up in year 4 and beyond of that deal.
He will be 30 as a UFA meaning he is probably looking at this as his last chance to cash in. That equates to a long-term deal of 6-7 years which will make him 36/37 at the end. The number that I am seeing thrown out there is anywhere from $8.5-9 million. With everything that I said above, I have a hard time predicting he is anywhere near an $8.5 million player in the later half of that deal.
Maybe the cap explodes in the next 4 years and 8.5 million seems like nothing. Or, there is a chance his body does hold up over 5-6 years and he doesn't slow down during that time. I hope that is the case but I don't want NJ making that bet, especially for significant assets because it will most likely end up like the Seguin situation.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Emphasis on the word "probably". Until Miller signs a deal, he's not a lock to be bound to an albatross contract. We have to stop acting as though it's a foregone conclusion, because it's not</div></div>
Nothing is a lock, but all the signs are there for his next contract to be rough. He will be 30 when he signs so he knows it may be his last chance to cash in, he plays the type of game that is typically unsustainable into the mid-30s, and his level of production has been all over the place throughout his career. Now that it is a contract year he will probably produce similar to last season but that type of production doesn't seem like it will last.
He could be the exception to all of these factors but that is very unlikely and has to be at the back of any team's mind as they look to sign him.

I think he's comparing Miller and Petterson to Severson and Marino, not in terms of skill but in terms of situation. Why would either team trade the younger, cost-controlled asset so they can extend someone who will probably have an albatross of a contract in the next couple of years?

I don't see Miller and NJ being a fit. NJ has no business trading a first round pick for a 1 year rental and I wouldn't want to touch his contract extension with a 10 foot pole. I'd rather spend big for an extended Pastrnak or negotiate Meier's extension down from that absurd QO.

I like this deal a lot for NJ but I’m pretty high on Coronato. Is that first included? I’d assume there is a top 10 protection if Holtz and Bratt are in the deal.

next season with a bit of cap space for the TDL
I don’t see a world where Wood doesn’t get a qualifying offer. He offers what not a lot of devils have and he seems like someone that Fitz values. He was hurt most of this season but I don’t see that being enough for NJ to let him walk for nothing

Twelve NCAA free agents I would hope NJ are targeting
I like the idea of getting one of Strauss Mann or Dryden McKay. If they want to bet on themselves there is an open road to the starters net in NJ that you can only find on a handful of other teams.
Is Perets also eligible as an undrafted free agent? He's another one I would take a look at

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, but I don't think that Binnington is anything special. It seems like he is riding the reputation from the playoff run. I'm also not a fan of the tough guy act that he pulls after getting shelled but that's not why I think he is overrated.
With regards to Husso, I'm not sure if this is an outlier or if he can continue the level that he has been playing at. I hope that he can continue to be a true number 1 but the sample size isn't there yet for me.
I can see why both players are on the block but as an NJ fan, I wouldn't want to bring in Binnington

I disagree. Binnington is overrated and overpaid. I'd rather roll with the younger and cheaper option until they can find a true #1 elsewhere.

Pavel Zacha in Florida would probably be a consistent 25 goal scorer bc something about that team gets players to play the right way. He’d probably shoot more and play more physical but that’s all pure speculation and there is no way that deal gets the return from florida

Blake Coleman with a year left was traded at the deadline for a first and Nolan Foote. It’s hard to imagine that Severson on an affordable deal with the same relative term and at a more premium position will get less than what Coleman returned.

He is a 2nd rd pick in 2021 and he is having a good freshman season and unless offered something ridiculous teams don't usually consider trading players is situations like this. So unless you are overpaying you probably won't get him. His play over 2 months of his freshman year of college isn't enough to justify overpaying for him. That is just my opinion.</div></div>
My idea is getting Morrow in a package for an extended rental like Severson if NJ doesn't plan on extending him. Everything that I heard about him was impressive and he's in one of the best college programs to develop his game and adjust to stronger competition. To me, it would be foolish for Carolina to trade him but you never know what they would do if they were desperate to go on a long playoff run.

What would you say the price is for Morrow. I liked him as a late first pick in his draft year and NJ's prospect pool on the right side is pretty empty.
