He's 25, still going to be an RFA when the deals done and had a solid playoffs.. Good signing imo.

(VGK/TOR) - Clarkson & 4th round pick for Sparks
Ugh I may be the minority here but I think we should have given Sparks another shot. He may or may not thrive in LV, but let's not forget that he won a Calder and goalie of the year in the AHL. It has to mean something, even though he had a horrible season last year. His reputation among fans was basically solidified after that, and his interview style didn't help either. Anyhow, I wouldn't call this a win for Toronto. Saving 750K might just help sign Marner though.
Edit:
Nvm I read into the reasons and it makes sense. Good luck in Vegas Sparksey!

Are you a Flames fan? You saying that because of his performance this past year?
Because the comment right above yours seems to disagree.

I think he gets back to being at least a 20 goal guy in EDM. Just needs to figure out where he fits into the team hierarchy.

Well they've got Allen who is barely 29, Binnington just turned 26 and this 24 year old yet to prove himself. It might take a while for Husso to get a real shot though. STL are in a good place.

Good term and AAV. If he's a smart player, which it seems is the case, he'll put up 15+ goals a season and serve as an important role player. Can't ask for much more from bottom 6.

Not really sure why someone said bad deal. Yes it's only 2 years but he's still an RFA when it's up and the cap is manageable. Trouba just got 8M per. In comparison, Pionk got a good number that helps WPG with the cap right away. Good signing.

Brock is 2 years younger, so maybe he proves his worth this season to justify the number. As it currently stands though, I'd much rather have Hyman at 2.25 over McGinn at 2.1.
Is he a hard nosed player though? Stand up for teammates kind?

Check his stats again. 11P in 34GP last year with 2 NHL teams (Dallas/New Jersey). In 17-18 with us, 12P in 47GP. Year before, 8P in 67GP. So i'm not sure which best years you're referring to.

Not really surprising, it's the same number Hyman got. Personally I think Hyman is more valuable, but that's also because I'm not as familiar with McGinn's game. Thinking this is a pretty fair deal, 16 goals last season at 2.1M is good. I'm sure he's capable of 20.
Nvm, 10 goals last season. So 2 years doesn't sound bad, less risk.
Whoops, Hyman got 2.25M.

Anyhow I recall him scoring against us 2 seasons ago in the 1st round. May not be the reason we lost but the guys got potential to be better. 8 points in the year they won, and as I see it, WSH needs to get younger.

Yeah you're right, and I shouldn't have called your point ludicrous. The number is over but within range that it won't be an issue. I'm thinking his camp held firm on the years and compromised on the AAV.

Los Angeles Kings signed Cal Petersen (3 Years / $858,333 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>Cap space isn't going to be an issue for the Kings over the next several years. Worst case scenario is that he plays quality hockey in a backup role in 2020-21, earns the starting gig in 2021-22, then wants Hellebuyck/Gibson money in 2022. Quick will still be under contract for one more season at that point (assuming he doesn't get taken by Seattle), and then they'll have $12M+ tied up in goaltending right around the time that they're ready to compete again.
$2M is more than he's proven he's worth at this juncture, but it protects the Kings from being in a Toronto situation in 3 seasons when many of the Kings prospects will be RFAs (Kupari, Vilardi, Anderson-Dolan, Durzi, Anderson, Phillips). If even half of those guys turn into quality prospects, the Kings will have a tough time with raises if they have to give Petersen a payday.</div></div>
That's assuming he plays lights out and earns the starter role along with your other valid points. Certainly true, but don't also overlook the cap rising enough to justify the pay raise. The Kings, imo, will have enough for the kids. If they have to, they'll get creative. Right now, Chicago is paying 11M for their goalies for next season and are finding (albeit not so-good) ways of fixing the roster.
Bottom line is, 2M is just ludicrous . Sure, if they made it 1M x 4 years, I'd take it. But I'm sure Cal wanted to bet on himself a little and take his chances. I think guys brave for that.

I would have rather seen $2 million AAV for 5 years than $875k for 3 years.</div></div>
2M is a pretty big number and 5 years is a lot for a guy who has yet to prove he could be a starter. So if this was the cost of getting him on a low AAV, then I think it's a good deal. If he doesn't become no. 1, at least you're not tied down. I'm sure Kings can put the extra cap space to good use.

Did CHI really need the extra 1.25M to resign Perlini? If so, why bring in a kinda expensive Shaw for those draft picks when you know you're going to have to trade a good player from your roster later on? I find this move a bit confusing, and feel they could have done better trades to reshape the roster.

I honestly think he could play top 4. He's got the talent I believe. Like the first post said though, if he can get back to that pre injury form then it'll be a steal for Anaheim. Ducks low key have pulled off some decent moves this offseason. Buying out Perry must've hurt but I think they're better off for it.

Don't need more even if Maroon and Lingberg would be improvements to some of the guys mentioned.</div></div>
I understand the need for speed, but at this point any good finisher should be considered imo. They need guys to put it in the back of the net, period. I'm sure McDavid and Drai can adjust accordingly.
Also, decent signing here. It's a bit of a career resurrection for Josh, so let's see what he can do. What I'm glad about is that Edmonton management aren't rushing into fixing the lineup. It'll take some time and they seem up for it.

The term is okay as it gives the team some control next year, and I can see him line up next to Kadri to start the season. Good low risk signing for COL. Both of those players are going to play to prove something.

I may be the unpopular option here but Murray's game doesn't give me confidence going forward. He seems to be moving in the crease a lot, but then again guys like Quick and Rinne have proved you can win with that style (less Rinne, but he's out of this world)..
Anyhow, I feel Jordan is a very composed and confidence inspiring goalie, and I think did a lot to turn STL around this past season. Murray did have MAF to fall back upon even for assistance. I'd like to also point out that I'm a secret Pens fan (fav US team, but mostly because of Sid) so it's not like I'm trying to play down Murray's achievements.

I think it's a good contact despite him walking into free agency, as it's less term but also less risk. As krakowitz pointed out, he just earns his next big contract as a UFA with the upper-hand, but only if he plays well.
