<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LukeCBJ</b></div><div>1. The 2nd line center will be filled from within. Texier will have his opportunity, and will likely fill that role. Foudy will also have an opportunity but will likely play wing. Also, wennberg had a solid playoffs.

2. The dire need on this team is high end skill. It was the difference in the Tampa series.

3. <strong>The trade value for Gaudreau will be directly affected from his sub-par regular season, his lack of playoff success, the upcoming flat cap, and his contract only has 2 years left on it</strong>.

4. Marchenko is clearly gaining value. <strong>There will be a bidding fest for A player like Anderson between teams such as Toronto, Buffalo, and Calgary</strong>.

5. The flames aren’t going to give up Johnny Hockey in exchange for draft picks. They want to shake up their core and bring in new faces.

So Gaudreau's value is low for your stated reasons but there will be a bidding war for a guy that just had 4 pts this past season, has 8pts in 21 career playoff games, and can file for arbitration and go UFA after next season? I like Anderson and the style of game he plays but until he gets back on the ice and shows he can still play that game after surgery he's damaged goods.

Unless Treliving goes insane Jarmo doesn't have the assets to get Gaudreau in a fashion that makes the Jackets better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ajp_18</b></div><div>Columbus doesn’t need a young center though... we have Foudy, Texier and Grigorenko (who I don’t expect a ton from).

Columbus isn’t going to trade futures right now. We have arguably the worst prospect pool in the NHL and have 4 picks in next years draft, 1 of them in the top 100 selections. We aren’t trading young players or draft picks right now. Nylander would be a good fit (if he was a center) in Columbus but we can’t afford to trade for him unless Savard (with an extension), Anderson and a 2022 2nd is an acceptable price. Which honestly isn’t a good price for him. So no Columbus can’t afford to trade for an under 26 second line center. We just have to wait and develop the players we have. Something most leaf fans can’t seem to comprehend doing (Liljegren and Sandin are going to be studs just give them time).</div></div>

I'm a Leafs fan but happen to live in Columbus and root for the Jackets in all but three regular season games a year.

The big problem with waiting and developing on a yearly basis like Jarmo has been doing is it just doesn't seem the the future ever arrives. I see Foudy and Texier as more wings than likely 2C of the future but assuming one of them does develop to 2C the team will have wasted the RFA years of Jones/Werenski/PLD/Bjorkstrand/etc. I've been hearing for years about how the team is the youngest in the NHL and Pittsburgh and Washington are on the decline but teams like Carolina and Philly look like their positioned to take their place. If teams don't make moves to add that piece or two they're missing someone else will.
