Some ideas for the TDL

Would you do Letang and Zucker for Myers and Boeser? Maybe pens add a prospect or a pick?

Awards that some of our guys could win
Sid will receive votes for the Selke, but until he is eating PK minutes, he won't win it IMO....He is statistically having a better season defensively than he did in 2019, when he finished 4th in voting, but maybe is a finalist...I doubt it though.
Sully has done a great job with all the injuries, and should be a candidate since most predicted the Pens wouldn't make the playoffs....I doubt he will get the votes though.
Letang should finish top 5, especially if he continues to put up the points. He is top 5 in points for a defenseman right now, and 5 points off the lead.
As far a Matthews and Marner go....no way IMO, selke winners don't tend to have more giveaways than takeaways, Kopitar being an exception.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I don't think they want him there. Why have him on the ice for 15 minutes when he's one of your fastest and best players. When he can play LW and be on the ice for 20.</div></div>
Without Jake yes, with Jake, I think you'll see Kahun on Geno's wing, I think he is a better winger than McCann and McCann is a better C than he is a W anyway. I don't think they will keep him on the LW when they are healthy...as it stands now, McCann only sees about 15 min of ice anyway...Kahun 13...the games he actually did hit the 20 min mark, he was playing either 3C or 2C. Realistically, the only forwards that average around 20 anyway are Jake/Sid/Rust/Geno. 15 is the right number for McCann.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>My guess is Jugs has to be moved. But then you have to find a 3C. And who do you find cheaper than 3 million so I don't see much cap savings. Unless they play Blueger there. Not sure how they feel about that. Personally I like Blue he's a good 4C so far. But he's really a defensive guy and they want someone strong on the dot.
As of right now, they don't have anyone to play 4C if he did play 3C. Maybe Lafferty? He's really an AHL guy though. Nikkita if he can play from Penn St. or maybe Hollander can come play 3C if he's ready. But it's all question marks.
They do move him though they have no choice. Because they will have to find a 3RD. Marino will probably get his bonus and then they are cap strapped.
So what they can save cap wise on a 3C is gonna be needed for a RW unless they can move Hornqvist or JJ. And good luck with that at this point.</div></div>
McCann can play 3C, then they just need a winger

He's an RFA, so if he gets 7 mil, I doubt it comes from Pitt...if he does get that from someone, the pens get a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd. I'd take that in a heart beat before matching that offer. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out, but I dont think any arbitrator would give him more than 5...

And you think a 40pt 23year old, signed to a good contract for a couple of more years, is going to get a 2nd and "maybe" a B prospect?

The kid is worth more than all the players I listed above, he'd get a solid return.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Yeah I don't think CAR is going to trade with us. They are neck and neck with us in that division with Philly.
We are all bubble teams at the moment. Any one of them could not make it.
I really don't think the players on the ice are the issue with the power play. It starts with them not dumping the puck in and skating it in.
Sullivan simply does not adjust his game plan well. I don't know what to say other than that. I don't look forward to this team facing the Islanders because of that. Trotz has got his number and he doesn't change the game plan.
I think they could move JJ I don't know. I'd like to think it gets easier after this year. His play is better, less contract length, cap hit seems smaller. We'll see at the end of the season. FA will have sticker shock. Bottom teams who need bodies might want to talk as they are probably thinking, why spend big on defense when we aren't a playoff team. They can hold him for a year, send him to Seattle so it's only a 1 deal maybe for a team. I don't know.</div></div>
agree on Car not likely being a trade partner...which is a shame, because I do think it could be a good fit for all involved. Isn't Recchi running the PP or is that shared? I know he did last year as well, but yeah they are dumping the puck in, as opposed to carrying it in with speed as in the past. I'm not seeing that reverse pass going into the NZ with speed as much either. When they were running full steam ahead, that's what they did. Why make that change...unless they felt the need to eliminate those SH opportunities...which IMO wasn't the reason for the SH opportunities, but whatever....I don't remember every chance they gave away last year, but I feel like the D to D pass in the OZ was getting picked off, which created a breakaway in the other direction...

Because you'd be paying a lot for a 6th 7th guy if they didn't move.
Which doesn't really work.
I think they are going to play Almari or POJ there next year. That's my guess. Don't hold me to it.</div></div>
I'm okay with JMFJ playing 3rd pairing LD, he is serviceable there....costs too much, but unless we can find a sucker to take him or bury him/buy him out next summer, we are stuck with him. D isn't the pens problem right now anyway, they are playing well, even without Dumo. Pens need help on the PP. Would love to see them move Chucky/Bjugs/Desmith to Car for Dzingel and maybe a guy like haula...Dzingel would help a lot I think all around, but is someone who can finish and has great speed. Then Car could turn around a send Mraz to someone for a late pick...now if we could pull off fleury from them somehow too, now we're talking. That would give a cheap LD option who could play 2 until Dumo is back...

What if pens got 1st pic in 04
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>The penguins are arguably the team who was effected the worst by the salary cap.
They had the young talent to win a ton of cups and it wasn't even close with everyone else.
The NHL basically stole a dynasty from the penguins so the rest of the league could live.
Those are pretty much the facts. After FA tore this team apart it took like 10 years for them to get to the cup again. But they were clearly heads and shoulders above everyone else prior to the cap stealing the team of young talent.
Which is exactly what would have happened here. The reason they got rid of Staal is they couldn't afford to pay him. You pay OV....no Staal money.</div></div>
Not entirely true, the Pens offered Staal a 10 year deal worth $60 mil, he turned it down....same contract he signed with Car. He just wanted to play with his brother and play a bigger role.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>This does not work for the penguins.
My honest opinion is try Seattle or ANA or WPG.
The penguins have two really good LD in Marino and Letang. They aren't paying 4 million for a 3rd pairing LD for the next 2 years. That just doesn't work.
Maybe if yo retained 2 million for the next two years we could talk about it. But I don't think you need to retain on him if you trade him elsewhere.
The penguins injury issues are temporary. They won't leave themselves a 2 year cap issue because of it.</div></div>
RD, but point is still valid....there is also Schultz, so unless Schultz got moved, there is no room on the right side for Miller. A solid 3rd LD is what they need, especially with Dumo out for an extended time, they could really use a #2 so JMFJ doesn't have to play top 4.

A physical, grinding, skillful group of guys with heart and passion. It's more than just good players. It's qualities every winning team needs. A team filled with superstars will get killed in the playoffs. There's no identity with players you've suggested and it sounds like nothing, but conflict to me. A bunch of superstars arguing over who is 'the guy'
The team I picked would be very very hard to play against in any playoff series. The other team would be physically and emotionally beaten down by game 3.</div></div>
If that's the case, then I'd take Crosby over Malkin, Crosby might be the best grinder in the game and nobody protects the puck better than he does. Malkin can be lazy at times and is a turnover machine, does get a bunch of takeaways though...but Crosby is better than Malkin in every aspect of the game both on and off the ice.

I don't think it's going to matter, I think they will do a similar thing to the LV draft with MAF, but this time it will be Hornqvist. If they still have him on the roster, he is the guy they should push them to take. His cap hit is simply too high for what he does.
Otherwise in addition to the must protects (87, 71, 58) I'd protect Murray, Dumo, Petterson (maybe Marino instead), Guentzel, McCann, Kahun, Tanev, and Galchenyuk

He's already had two years in juniors, but I agree he isn't there yet. He is close, his shot is NHL level, his skating needs work. Since the Penguins signed him though, he isn't eligible to play in the AHL now until he is 20, so that likely won't happen. He will spend a 3rd season in Juniors and if he doesn't make the roster next year, he will have to spend a 4th season there. He doesn't turn 20 until Jan 11, 2021...so he won't be 20 before the Sept 15th cut off date next year.
