Zadorov would be perfectly fine as a 2nd pair defenseman. McCabe would be a great 3rd pair. This would be a very strong left side.

Delusional. Lindholm doesn't want to be in Calgary, He's a good player but his best years are statistically behind him and no longer has Tkachuk and Gaudreau to carry him. He will be 29 the vast majority of this season and essentially 30 when his next deal starts. No interest from Calgary is straight up delusional.

Explain to me how we are trading Nylander and only getting back essentially a soon to be 30 year old UFA in Pesce with his best years behind him and a couple 30 year old 3rd liners who are also going to be UFAs next year. oh and we just toss in Liljegren as he enters his prime. Holy **** is this a dog**** trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Why would Calgary do that?</div></div>
You think Calgary is getting the shaft in this proposal?
The only reason i could see them saying no to this deal is if they are determined to do a complete rebuild because of all the future UFAs decisions to move on.
If ownership wants to remain competitive which would seem to make sense since they still have kadri and hub on long term deals, they wont get a better return than this.
Even if they want to do a rebuild im sure they could flip Marner retained to a team for a boatload and keep Liljegren and Robertson for the rebuild.
Ultimately this deal doesn't work for either team really. Toronto and Calgary are my two teams and i dont like the trade from either side, but i hate it way more from Torontos perspective.

Is a Cap Exempt Player a good idea?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>One fair way to do it is that the Cap Exempt player is the best player on the team last season. "Best" will have to be defined, but the league can vote a player MVP for each team or something. That player becomes the next season's Cap Exempt player. This makes it the best player who won't receive crazy contracts. For example, EDM will still have to do good negotiating with McDavid for his contract, because if he ends up not being the team MVP that season EDMs cap will be rough without a decent contract for McDavid</div></div>
This creates far to much uncertainty and would never work.

Trading nylander and cleaning house
Brodie trade is terrible. He is our most important D member.
Liljegren should be in our top 4 right now, Veleno is hanging on by the skin of his teeth and his 1st round draft pick status.
Don't care what Blues fans think, Paraykos contract is going to age terribly. He already isn't worth it. They can keep that anchor of a contract.
Wilson trade is probably okay value wise if a team really needs a Wilson type player. But i don't think we should trade Nylander so no room for him in the top 6. Wouldn't want to give up the draft picks for him either with how many picks we've traded away recently.

Reilly is from Western Canada and Nurse is from Eastern Canada. Kinda just seems like a good match both ways. Edmonton would probably retain 875000 to make the money work, but they wouldn't also take Holl.</div></div>
My thoughts are that Rielly is pretty one dimensional. With the team looking like they are going to be going with 5F PP more often his points are going to be going down. Nurse could bring the physical presence that Muzzin brought which is desirable. He isn't worth 9M for the next 8 years but i don't think Rielly is going to be worth 7.5 over the next 8 years either. This whole trade proposal is pretty nuts and we cant just trade Rielly after signing him if we want players to sign long term here(not that he would ever waive the NMC to go to Edmonton anyway), but if it was Rielly for Nurse straight up with retention to give them equal AAVs i would think long and hard about it.

I wouldn't dismiss this as fast as some others seem to be. Id give it real thought if the Oilers retained 875,000 to make the salary even. Obviously Rielly would never allow this to happen. But i don't think the idea is that outlandish.

The general consensus i have found is that he is failing the eye test.
His analytics aren't great either.
This is from the Athletic writer who covers the Blues.
"He eats ice time — more than 23 minutes per game, which is second behind Faulk — and his skating will often leave you in awe.
But the poor numbers (no goals, three assists) and analytics aside, there’s too much left to be desired.
The lack of positioning and scrambling on plays around his own net take away so much from the good he does."

Gives a good indication of his level of play on the first year of an 8 year deal that starts at the decline of most players in terms of age.
For the record you can't find a single positive tweet about Paraykos performance. They are all negative and the majority allude to it being a long term problem thats been going on. Crowd sourcing his performance from Blues fans isn't yielding a lot of positive results.
Correction: i found a semi positive tweet about him from a woman not wanting to complete a transaction for some blues apparel because the seller referred to Parayko as a giant tampon on skates.

That price (acquisition price as well as his aav) along with that term scare me. If this was the 25 year old Parayko sure. We need to let Liljegren develope into our number 1 RHD and find similar player like Brodie to sign to reasonable term and AAV. I want to go after Connor Murphy. the cost of him would be much more reasonable with much more manageable risk.

In the event that Kane actually wants to go to a contender, the Blackhawks will not be able to demand extra compensation for retention. Retention will just be a given because no team will be able to take him without it. They have no bargaining power without it because barely anyone can take him on at full price.
I don't even want Kane, Meier would be much more preferable for even if we treat him as a UFA because of his QO.

Toronto depth chart if healthy What should they add and subtract
If Timmins can put together a decent run here and be a serviceable bottom pair i think we are set on D for the rest of the year.
Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl
extra: Timmins.
If one of the LD gets hurt Brodie and move over to the left side and open a spot for Timmins on the bottom pair, and If someone on the right gets hurt it opens up a spot for Timmins on the bottom pair.
Gio going down to bottom pair to give him a rest and when Rielly comes back give him some nights off to keep him fresh for the playoffs and give Timmins more of a chance to prove himself.
We should go out and get a left wing. Niederreiter, or Henrique at half retained would be my targets. i would have claimed Bemstrom from Columbus when he was availalble as well. Knies signing near the end of the year would be nice too. However im not convinced he should be elevated to the top 6 right away.

Goodow to TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>You’ve got your opinion and a few barbs to stand behind it….but hey- if (unlike Tampa a few years back) you think your Leafs have the blood and guts and character needed to survive 4 rounds of NHL playoffs then so be it. I’m sorry, but until I see that team make it past the 1st round, I’ll only view that team as having a glass jaw- the kind of team Goodrow would most certainly help- but of course at the right price and cap hit going forward. At 2-2.5M (either NYR or a third party obviously eat some salary), TOR would have a heck of a player- as long as he is not miscast in the top 6.</div></div>
I refuse to accept the narrative that Tampa won because of guys like Goodrow and Coleman. They won because of Point and Kuch and Vasilevsky and the rest of the top players. i Dont accept the fact that Toronto doesn't have character players. Sometimes things just don't go your way and having being in the best division for the last 5 years has a much larger role than lack of " Blood and Guts".
