Except he put up 10 points in 7 games in the playoffs. He is built for playoff hockey. He is good for 30 goals and 60 points. I have no idea what happened to him defensively in Boston. He was reliable in Detroit and frequently killed penalties.

Rebuild Over
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ohmyjlord</b></div><div>#9 is a completely different story, because it ensures MTL can get their hands on one of Benson, Leonard, Dvorsky or Reinbacher. At #11 (Vancouver's pick), you might miss them all...and I don't think Hughes gambles #5 unless a) he's 100% sure he'll get one of the player he wants and b) compensation to drop is interesting enough.
Someone on another DET ACGM proposed #5 and #37 for #9 and #17...that's the closest I think Hughes goes.</div></div>
9 and 17 for Michkov is tempting. I'd probably do it, but I'd do everything possible to get a pick to take Pelikka. I have a hunch in 5-10 years, the redraft will have Pelikka in the top 5.

PIT Trade 14th Overall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>At the cost of a 1st and a 2nd, they would. Is there any precedent for that much for a guy who is semi productive with 2 years left?</div></div>
I dont know of there is a precedent, but most teams don't sign players to contracts that take them to age 38 unless they are truly elite. Even then, it carries massive risk.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ohmyjlord</b></div><div>MTL picks at #5, not #4. And no, they wouldn't trade #5 for two picks outside of the Top-10, including a very late one...unless it came with a nicely wrapped Raymond, Seider or Edvinsson on top.</div></div>
Sorry, I typoed 4. I would take Michkov at 5 though, if I were Montreal. If they don't want Michkov, as in they don't want to wait for a few years, or don't want a winger, or have a thing against Russians, then trading down is not bad. In this proposal, the trade down would likely be for Detroit's 9th overall though, which is fine for Montreal since the talent at 5 is about the same at 9 or even 15. I'm not certain Detroit would trade any additional 1sts, but a 2nd (early 40s) in this year's draft is like a late 1st in other drafts, but I doubt Montreal would go for that. At 9th, Pelikka or Reinbacher are likely there, Moore/Smith/Yager/Leonard at center, or a number of wingers. Whatever position Montrwal wants to address, they can at 9, which is like a top 5 in most other drafts. Any of the guys I just listed would have been top 3 picks in last years draft.

It isn't about Petry being bad. It's about being 36 with 2 more yearsat 6 million. His play declined this past season, even if it was only a small decline. Pens may as well keep him.

Fun fact. Detroit has missed the playoffs for the last 7 years. In the last decade, They still have more playoff victories in the second round than the Leafs.
Sorry, I just find it funny. Leafs are starting to look like the Detroit Lions or Cleveland Browns.

No on Dvorsky (work ethic is bad), no on Reinbacher as Pelikka is better.
Pittsburgh fans will laugh, but the reality is that is what it would take to rid themselves of over 10 million in cap space.
Montreal probably says no, but if it is Michkov at 4 and Montreal doesn't want him, they can likely get just as good a player at 5 as they can at 15, and the players at 29 are likely to still be good. It isn't totally off.
Detroit declines that Vancouver trade. Yikes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>I would do the Petry deal (with modifications) but not the others.
Detroit doesn't need the retention so instead either drop the #41 to #43 and drop the 4th and 5th picks, or add a better pick like Pitt's 2nd in '24.
That would give us a trade-up from #43 to #14 and that's a good deal for taking on Petry's cap for two years.</div></div>
Oof. I forgot it is 2 years on Petry. I reneg on my trade up from the Islanders pick. Yes, Billy bob, your proposal is closer to accurate.

I think a more likely scenario would be Petry and the 1st for the Islanders pick. I'd only do it if one of Pelikka, Moore, or maybe Leonard is still there.

I can't help the fact that Vancouver's management and GM are not very good. Not that it matters now, but the Islanders pick should have been unprotected. Even though it was, the likelihood of the Islanders falling to bottom 10 or just missing the playoffs and moving up 10 spots was highly unlikely.

The 8 million dollar 1 year cap savings alone is worth a 1st. Rasmussen adds to that value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I wonder if we could move the protection to top 5? That I feel is a reasonable compromise. I don't mind taking Beau, he can provide some value in the future. I do agree that we don't need to be selling more and Ras is the exact type of player we need. It is a pretty good return though and I think if there was a desire to want to move Ras this would really good some weight. There are some intriguing players coming up in next year's draft, some decent RHDs as well. I also think Mazur could also be a future replacement for Ras.</div></div>
No protection. Period. Rasmussen is an NHLer, and a good one who will continue to get better. Anything after top 5 or even top 3 may not make the NHL or may not make any impact for a few years. Rasmussen is performing at top 9 level with a ceiling at top 6. You don't give that away for a lottery ticket.
If you are drafting RHD next year with a pick in the teens, you won't see that player for 3 years at best. Not a good spot for Detroit. Rasmussen for a 2023 1st is really how this thing breaks down. Rasmussen is a top 10 pick himself.
Vancouver still needs to add.
