If Gourde were Available
it's kind of a gamble really. Johansen is looking a little better with more consistent wingers lately and i feel he has the frame to be more of an effective player in playoffs. I don't know if the little bit of an upgrade between the two and 500k in cap space is worth adding in oskar and our first.

22-23 Outlook Minor Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>Yeah the Kadri/Newhook situation was my #1 question I put in the description. Guess we'll see how well each of them play in the years before. I structured the Landy/Grub/Kadri/Nuke contracts like they all had no drop off (or further improved) over the next two seasons. Kadri would be 32 for the 22-23 season, so the contract is definitely on the high side. I think Nuke gets 2x1.5-2.5MM this offseason.
Think you missed LOC in your count - it's 12 players. And I believe Byram's contract would slide if he doesn't make the team this year, so that would make it 7-8 players to sign with $16-17MM. Still tight, but may be doable depending on ELCs. The big question is how much the cap will end up changing.</div></div>
I was just going off the count in the Long-Term Outlook tab under roster size but I guess if you move O'Connor to the roster, it helps ever so slightly. I know cap gets tight on contending teams once they have their core in place but I just can't see giving Kadri a raise at that age with Newhook coming in. They really do have to get as much as possible out of their high-end young guys to make all of this work because they've got their high-end roster players already here. Joe and the front office are going to need to earn every penny they're paid over the next 7-10 years if this team is to stay competitive. It makes you really respect what these guys have to do and how much they have to know and how much of a calculated risk they are willing to take to get to this level. I'd be stressed out all the time if I were in their shoes.

All I had seen was that Timmins' agent said "I just talked to Conor, and he told me he’s feeling much better". What Avs Can Do this Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>To this point, I feel like Timmins is the one player you undersold the worst (best?) case scenario. Assuming 2 great years, we're prepped to give Makar $9M. But if Timmins has 1 solid year, he only gets a $200k raise? Absolutely nitpicking cause it all evens out but think he could be up to 2x$2M. Excited to see him play more.</div></div>
Next season he will be a full time NHLer, he had a really good full season in the AHL, so who know what role he really has on the team next year. Could be 1.5m could be 2m, could only be 975k. Hes such a cap wild card

+1
Couple small points.
I think both Landeskog and Makar get 500-750k less than those deals.
I dont think we see LOC make this roster before Bowers does (even if him or Jost need to play out of position).

I think he comes back but I dont think they extend him this offseason, they let him play into his UFA without a contract so made it more of Someone will be in net.
He will be 30 years old when he needs to sign a new contract, I could see them moving into a younger direction via Trade if he doesnt lock things down next season. So far he has been good in the bubble. Just needs to keep it up

Opposite
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>COL has a bit of logjam at RHD with Johnson, Barrie, Meloche, Timmins and Makar. I would expect Meloche to see some time this year, maybe Timmins (he's just now coming back from concussion/ankle issues after months off), and then Makar to sign his ELC after his college season. Not sure if it'll be Barrie getting moved or not. The arguments for trading him are 1) his value is high right now 2) he's a little older than the core group 3) have other offensive D in Girard and Makar 4) could lose him in free agency in 2 years. Moving him for a young winger could work out.
Don't forget about LAK signing Kovalchuk and VGK getting Pacioretty/Stastny.</div></div>
If Avs are shopping Barrie, it should be within this year, mainly because his price is high, as you wrote.
Haven't seen Meloche play unfortunately, but the logjam could be real if they aren't shopping him around and loose him to free agency. Especially if the kids, Timmins, Meloche, etc. are ready to play. Might as well kick in a trade and get a solid veteran forward and a high draft pick.
Girard was magnificent IMO last season and I truly believe he's going to be a stud this season.
Yeah, pretty excited to see how Kovy will get around in LA. Rumour says the guy is still capable of flying around a stickhandle the **** out of people and sniping top shelf.
Regarding to Pacioretty/Stastny, that's going to be exciting - If you haven't read this article yet, this is pure gold.

Opposite
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>COL would love to have Draisaitl (I've thought about trades centered around Draisaitl/Barrie), and I think they would pull the trigger on this trade. I don't think EDM would do it though. With all the moves that SJS, VGK, LAK have made in the offseason, I think EDM sits back and builds on a youth movement around McDavid and Draisaitl (similar to COL and MacKinnon/Rantanen). In a few years, a lot of Pacific teams will have veterans starting to decline while McDavid/Draisaitl are hitting their prime.
For what it's worth, I don't think the value is necessarily far off - just that EDM might value youth/team control in Draisaitl. EDM sits this trade out and sees how their RHD looks with Larsson, Benning and Bouchard (0-2 years away).
I think a trade around Simmonds/Varlamov could work later in the season, depending on how Grubauer/Francouz start the year.</div></div>
I totally agree with you - just wanted to see what the team would actually look like if the trade would happen. EDM will (99% sure) keep McJesus/Draisaitl around for a long time and build around them. The only problem ATM is, as you acknowledge, is their defensive right side.
Even though they might not pick up Barrie, who I see as a match (Mainly because of his offensive upside), I can't seem to find any other guy who could fit EDM needs.

Team Canada under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>Leaving MacKinnon off seems crazy. $6.3M is very affordable, and he's a much better option than the $5M given to Marchessault or Reilly.
Also, instead of your goalies, I would look at Matt Murray and Aaron Dell. Combined $5.65M.</div></div>
I wanted to pick two goalies with low cap hits and trust that the skaters ahead of them would limit shots and score buckets of goals. But the fact that your two goalies are only $1M more and fit under the cap makes a ton of sense.

they are selling off. I bet Karlsson goes before the season starts, they will move Stone after Jan 1st when they can try to resign him to a new deal then Duchene will go to the deadline trying to resign him.

EK 3-way Trade (COL/OTT)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>I agree with what you're saying about draisaitl, but there is some stipulation that says they have to be under the cap by a certain point and sekera wont be on the LTIR until after that time... as per the article I read</div></div>
LTIR can be used during training camp - it says so right here on this website. The 10% off-season overage cushion is the only thing that goes away on day 1 of regular season, all teams have to be cap compliant at that time, LTIR included. Thus Oilers have about $9.5M in current cap space (less the potential bonus money) for day 1 of regular season.

EK 3-way Trade (COL/OTT)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>I don't know if you could sell any of those guys (Beauduin, O'Connor, Greer) as high enough ceilings for OTT to be interested. I think it would be more along the lines of Kamenev/Compher.
I think COL would do it because there's still a lot of uncertainty with COL's 2C slot. I would love to say that Jost or Kerfoot are capable of handling it, but I don't really believe that and Draisaitl is a proven upgrade. It would also be great to say COL would get Jack Hughes, but that's obviously not guaranteed. So if COL drops to 5-10 with OTT's pick, will that player be ready in the next couple years? Vs. picking up Draisaitl, who is still only 22 years old. With Draisaitl, you have a chance to take advantage of MacKinnon's steal of a contract for the next 5 seasons without giving up a youth movement.
I know trades should be evaluated separately, but here would be the end results for COL (if Kamenev is traded):
Traded away: Duchene, Nemeth
Received: Draisaitl, Girard, Annunen, Zhuravlyov, Bowers</div></div>
I agree with everything you said, I think I'm just being greedy because I think kamenev is ready to help out the team now.. remember that Van and Mtl are going to be **** this year also, and I just read that Nurse wants over 4 mill this year that's all they have in space so he said he wont go to camp without a deal, maybe this trade makes even more sense now

That's so outrageously one sided that you'd think you are a leafs fan... rantanen for driasitl is basically a lateral trade, not to mention we have no need for klefbolm. Makar and our 1st are worth way more than klefbolm... this isnt a trade to help EDM become a powerhouse, it's a trade that would help both teams become better, secondary scoring for Col and RHD scoring and cap relief if you go for the barrie trade listed above

Draisaitl (or RNH)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>I think that would be an underpayment from COL (1st + Kerfoot + Prospect). I'd imagine EDM would want at least one prominent player included. I think Barrie is a good fit because we're deep on RHD and EDM is short on them - only really have Larsson. They drafted Bouchard this year and he's lined up to be a great player, but not sure how impactful he'll be for the next couple years (and EDM would probably keep him down this year to let his ELC slide).
As far as if EDM would move Draisaitl - I don't know. They should be able to sign Nurse with the cap relief from Sekera going to LTIR, but that still doesn't help their RHD issues. Maybe they would make a push for Karlsson and then would have to move Draisaitl or RNH for cap space. I would need EDM fans to weigh in.</div></div>
I agree that we should move barrie with makar and timmins coming up we need to make room, I'm just thinking for cap reasons they may not want him but I guess if we are taking 8.5 mill back that will give them some relief
