Poitras on the 4th line wing doesn't make a lot of sense. He isn't a 4th line type of player. He is more of a high IQ playmaker than a speedster or a grinder. What he needs more than anything else is time to develop. I think he still isn't eligible for the AHL this year, so their best bet is probably to rotate him between 3C/3RW to start the year. If things go well, he probably needs to bounce between 2C/3C, and if things go poorly then he rotates between 3C/3RW/scratch.

I think Friedman said that the Bruins are planning to try and extend Frederic early in the offseason. If that doesn't go well, then perhaps this trade goes through, but at this point the more likely outcome is that they just re-sign him.

I don't follow them closely, but I can't imagine Philly trading real assets for Ullmark. I assume they see Fedetov as the horse they want to ride. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pursue a vet backup in UFA, or spend a very late round pick on one, so that they don't have to see Peterson or Ersson ever play another minute, but giving up high end picks and paying 5m seems like too much. And it makes even less sense with Ully only having a year left and them still being in the midst of a retool/rebuild.

This is the year
This has been rehashed a few times now, but the Devils won't give up a top 10 pick (of which their 2024 pick is one) to get Ullmark. A 2025 1st is more likely, although I think their fans are thinking something more like two 2nds or something centered around Alexander Holz. Time will tell, but the 2024 1st is almost certainly off the table.
Elias Lindholm will definitely cost more than that. I'd put his floor at 7m, but after picking it up in the playoffs I think he's looking at closer to 7.5m-8m. In my opinion, the Bruins cannot afford to re-sign DeBrusk AND go after Bertuzzi IF they sign Elias Lindholm.
I'm hoping that they give Poitras a shot to bounce between 2C and 3C next year. If they sign Lindholm, that would mean that they could have Zacha move to the wing and they could toggle between Poitras and Coyle in the 2C/3C spots.

I proposed Ullmark for Ritchie before the playoffs and it was panned. I still think that there might be something to it. This deal feels like a bit too much is coming back to Boston, but I would certainly take it!

I don't see the Canes doing that. They <em>needed</em> a 2C, but now I think they are entering a soft retool. They might still be competitive, but by the time they work the kinks out with the young guys, Coyle's contract will be up and he will be up there in age. They need a better long term solution.

On that first goal, Orlov had time and space, but he softly pushed the puck to the other side of the ice. It was a bad turnover, but you are right that it also should have been saved.
On the fourth goal, Orlov had a brainfart and iced the puck unnecessarily. I don't have a replay on hand, but I remember thinking that it was like he was just dumping it in from well behind the red line, or maybe he thought someone who was changing was going to chase it up ice. On the ensuing faceoff, the Rangers got possession and scored and never looked back.
I think those mistakes were pretty critical, and both seemed completely unforced. And I am by no means an Orlov hater, but those plays both stuck out to me when I watched them.

IMO, it starts by firing the social media team so people don't have a reason to hate on the Canes so hard anymore. I personally think that the team is likeable, but the Canes owner seems OK with trolls tarnishing the solid reputation that the team on the ice builds. In this series though, the goaltending and special teams didn't get the job done.
The Canes had a good thing with Anderson and Raanta for a few years, but I'd call the goal tending situation right now unstable. Those guys seem to have aged out of their prime. Either let Kochetkov run with it and have Freddie back up, or find someone who can be a more stable 1A with Kochetkov. Freddie looks OK in net, but he's playing behind a defense that should make him look like a world class goalie. With all of that said, I think Orlov had a much more brutal game 6 than Anderson did.

Couple moves to make
Take Forsberg out and I'd probably accept that Boston trade proposal with the pick being Boston's 2024 1st. I don't know much about the prospect, but I saw "power forward" in his bio, and you know that is the kind of wording that gets Cam Neely weak in the knees.
If you need to get rid of Forsberg for cap reasons, you could either find another taker, or you'd probably need to attach something like a mid-to-late round pick back to Boston. Boston has a younger, cheaper backup who they will likely lose to waivers if they don't keep him with the big club, so taking on Forsberg from the Bruin's perspective is effectively a cap dump.

I cannot see the Bruins trading a 2nd rounder for Mangiapane. They need a center, goal scoring, and picks, and this move would reduce their picks without significantly improving their goal scoring. The story might change if Marchand retires after next year, but that is where we are now.

Boston is downgrading in defense and in net and the centerpiece is a 32 year old middle 6 winger with a history of off-ice issues and late couple of round picks? If you want Ullmark, send a 1st rounder or something at least similar. If you want Carlo, its going to cost significantly more than that.

With some Devils fans, we seemed to settle on a 2025 1st for Ullmark, at least for a while. I think that'd get it done for Ullmark. Anything less, and I think I'd hang onto him to start the season. The Bruins are still retooling next year, so even if they hang onto him until the TDL I'm not going to be upset about it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KDev</b></div><div>I agree with what you are saying and I definitely understand the want for a 1st but I’m not sure Ullmark gets it. He lost the net to Swayman full time in the playoffs and I think most teams see the Bruins would probably rather have that cap space to resign Swayman as their starter and probably start looking for a top 6 center. Even losing Ullmark the Bruins still have excellent goaltending. I think this is a very fair deal. They get a decent upside forward and an extra second that should be mid round. I just don’t see how they keep Ullmark knowing he’s on his last year and I’m not sure anyone wants to pony up for him when their are other possible options (Saros, Markstrom, Gustafson all come to mind)</div></div>
Indeed, it is possible that they do not get a first. I don't see his value as going down because of the playoffs personally, but I would buy the idea that no matter what the goaltender market is like, people won't pay a 1st for a pending UFA goalie in the offseason. We shall see!

Look, I'm not saying he's a dud or anything. I'm just saying its too early to tell what he will be, so its hard to say he's worth much more or much less than his draft position a year ago. He's a 19 year old still playing on the bigger European ice surface who averaged .67 points per game in Liiga. It's pretty hard to project what he will be in the NHL at this point. If he caps out at the ceiling it sounds like you are projecting him to have, you'll probably be glad you didn't trade him for a pending UFA goalie.

I'm not sure I see much benefit for Boston in making that trade. The pick swap has a slight benefit of letting them pick in the 2nd round a year earlier, but the players coming back are not really needed, and Beecher is playing a valuable role on the team. It doesn't seem worth it.

I'm no prospect expert, but the trade effectively looks like the equivalent of two late 2nd rounders with Hämeenaho having been picked in the late 2nd round, but being too early to really tell what he will be. If I'm the Bruins, I'm trying to hold out for a 1st rounder. I think it is a sellers market when it comes to goaltending this offseason, so we shall see what happens.

If the Devils were actually good
The Boston deal is way too convoluted. Boston doesn't particularly need Bastian or Schmid so they are effectively 1 year cap dumps, retaining 1.5m on Palat for 3 years is a big ask, and they are also giving up Beecher. Seamus is a great piece, but if I am Don Sweeney, he doesn't fill enough of a need to basically neuter the Bruins from a cap perspective next year and give up a player who has a future there (Beecher) all while sending away the team's best trade asset.
A much simpler offer, like a 2025 first rounder, is probably all you need for Ullmark. And Beecher is not untouchable, but there are probably less costly options for picking up bottom 6 defensive players with grit in UFA.

Hard no from Boston. They need higher end picks more than any of the pieces you are sending, and they still have the chance to improve their top 6 in free agency.

I would have been with you 100% about three weeks ago, but if I'm the Bruins FO and my choice is a 1st rounder or 1 year of Gavrikov and a 2nd rounder, I am taking the 1st round pick and rolling the dice with Lohrei. Lohrei has shown his ability to rise to the occasion now, so I have far fewer reservations about giving him a top 4 spot next year. They are in a re-tool after all, so if he faulters then it isn't the end of the world.

I probably wouldn't even trade Ullmark to the Leafs for that package, let alone Swayman. Forget about the market value: the Bruins are not in the business of taking on the risk of Marner's next contract negotiation or making their division rivals better by fixing a goaltending problem which is going to be tricky to solve if Woll doesn't pan out. Marner is absolutely being scapegoated in Toronto, but I also don't want the Bruins paying him 10m+ for any amount of time. They need that cap space for center improvements over the next few years.

The Swayman trade proposals are getting a bit old anyway. You think its too much, yet it isn't enough for Boston to actually give him up either. The gulf is too wide for Sway to realistically be traded, people should be focused on Ullmark if Boson trades a goalie at all.
