Kahuna-Maattata Trade and more
Good thoughts!
I would keep the Debrincat/Strome/Perlini line together. Perlini just needs some consistency. It's the same thing Strome was going through except Strome received consistency and Perlini didn't. Perlini's ceiling is high.
As for the #1LW...It'll be a trial by fire IMO. Kubliak will get the 1st chance due to his play in a professional league and at worlds. If not him...I'm actually really high on Kurashev. He was very noticeable in Hawks camp last year and a hat trick in the U20 is no small feat...even if it was against Denmark. Both Kubliak and Kurashev have a snipe to compliment Kane's.
From what I've ready about Kirby is that he's a true center. I don't envision him playing wing. I'd put him between BOTH Saad and Shaw and watch the strong cycle game they have. Kirby is young, but at 6'4" 200 lbs...he'll learn to excel as a young guy there. AT THE VERY LEAST...Saad/Shaw won't let anything happen to him.
I think Dahlstrom is on the outs and maybe AA too. The TDL will be very interesting. Gus on a 1 year UFA. Crow/Lehner on 1 year UFA. I guess it depends on how the Hawks are doing in February. They'll be fun to watch!

Carolina Hurricanes signed Sebastian Aho (5 Years / $8,460,250 AAV)
This was an Aho using Bergervin and the Habs, Carolina matches just in 7 days. Habs lose out on any Defenceman that could actually pair with Weber and don't get Aho all at the same time. This was a terrible and weak offer from the Habs

How can you say is value is at a high...when we know for a fact that he was worth (2) 2nds in 2016? I understand your point about the 2nd vs Debrincat. It's really not fair to say Debrincat. I get that. But Bowman was definitely in a forced position in 2016. He was REQUIRED to trade Shaw away and still got (2) 2nds. MB is NOT in a force position, but still couldn't even get at least (2) 2nds. The cap went up from $75 to $81.5M It's a win, win, win for Stan...and lose, lose, lose for MB...WITH 1 EXCEPTION...which to your point is indeed a real concern. concussions.

No it's not. Keith is still a top 3 D guy on almost all teams. Hoffman is a 1 year rental and UFA of course. Coach Q, Coach Kitchens and Tallon are all Keith's biggest fans...they are calling the shots. Florida needs a veteran D with cup experience and lefthanded would be preferred. Hawks might have to throw in a middle of the road prospect or 3rd rounder, but it's not nearly as far off for those of us that know Q, Kitchens and Tallon. They are defense first and love the vets with cup experience.

The upper limit during the Summer is 110% of the cap and includes any LTIR. LTIR is not an extra added bonus on top of the 10% you can over, but rather included in any calculations. Regardless, I'm sure the Knights will have no problem moving a minor contract in the next week to fit Gusev under the 89 million teams are allowed to get to. The real problem will be what contracts you have to move between now and the fall.

Im done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>I live 15 minutes away from Langley Event's Center - The home arena where the Vancouver Giants play. I watched 5 games there this season, including a third round playoff game. I know Byram. And based on what I see, he isn't going to be a top 2 defenseman either. He tends to blend into the play and doesn't take control on anything other than the powerplay. While he is a leader, his defensive game can at times be brutal. He occasionally fails to get the puck out of the zone leading to more problems than good. This isn't to say he is bad, as his offensive zone action is impressive. However, as Chicago has an offensive defenseman in Boqvist, you are asking for much of the same but on the left side.
The issue I have is that there isn't really anything to compare Byram TO in this draft, so his stock has elevated. He has played on a great team with two potentially NHL calibre goaltenders. He will definitely be a top 4 defenseman, but he won't be that EK, Hedman, Subban etc. Perhaps another Noah Hanifin, or Shayne Gostisbhere. Again, great defensemen, but often criticized for their defensive play. Don't be angry. Chicago might end up with something special to replace Toews with in the future.</div></div>
This. Byram might have defense in his title but hes an offensive dman not a defensive one. Hes a great player not defensively sound enough.

I think Wild did good at 12. Boldy</div></div>
I think Dach is the most ready of the 3 but lowest ceiling. However, bowman's job in on the hot seat so he needed a next season impact player. Still, in his shoes would have selected Byram in that case and dealt Beaudin and Forling.

(PIT/CHI) - Määttä for Kahun & 2019 5th round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vmach</b></div><div>Wow, almost sounds like you are trying to persuade yourself. I mean, its fair deal, you are getting decent F, and CHI is getting stay home guy who can play PK and block shots. Keep in mind most of Kahun's points came from playing on top two lines and he was fairly quite on the 3rd line. CHI has a huge needs for both 1st and 2nd line wingers and yet they didn't keep Kahun permanently welded to those lines. There must be a reason for that, don't you think?
You are not getting ripped off here, but its not like you just won a Megaball. CHI won because they dead last on PK and Maatta will block some shots, and PIT won cause they got promising F at low $.
But seeing all those Ds flying off the shelf in the last 2 days, CHI can potentially flip him at draft. just saying.</div></div>
Yeah, I do have to admit. Even just a few days after my initial quote of being very upset. (AND I'll admit I was.) While, I'm still not 100% convinced Maatta is THE solution...I'm seeing this trade as a little better already. Dmen are soooo expensive right now.

A lot of Pens fans are bi-polar (not all of course).
When I was suggesting Lehkonen or Hudon + 2nd for Maata 3 months ago, I was crazy because he was "a top 3 defenceman worth a top 6 foward".
Now, they are just happy to clear cap space...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jregs23</b></div><div>Defense needs improvement. Saad was a third liner this past year and Faulk is a good defensemen on the last year of a deal and i don't think Saad is worth it @ 6 million dollars a year. Gus is in the final year of his contract and will command more than 1.2 million that might be comparable to Gardnier (if you say they are the same type of player). Boqvist, Mitchell, and Beaudin might be ready. If they don't resign faulk and Koekkoek those are 2 spots open. Also, keep that some of them might not work out.. what then? go out and over pay for a Brandon Manning type of player?</div></div>
Saad was on the 3rd line to split of scoring not because he was demoted. Coach C didn't want to overload the 1st and 2nd lines.
The defense is getting Jokiharju back and will be another year under the new system...that will be improvements. You don't mortgage your future (cap space) to improve for 1 year. Boqvist and Mitchell are locks to be ready next year. Boqvist will slot in on the 2nd line likely and Mitchell on the 3rd. Beaudin did good last year and will be interesting to see how he plays in Rockford this year. They also have Carlsson in Rockford who should be ready for 3rd line duties soon; maybe this year. Gus is cheaper then Gardiner, why sign Gardiner as such for $6M this year when you have Gus at $1.2M?
Furthermore, Marleau isn't coming to Chicago his family is moving back out to California and he wants to be closer to him...there is zero chance of that happening.

Cirelli is stud 2 way center at 21 years old . All his 40 points came as 3rd line center and was a PLUS 25 on year .. and no Kuch Point Stamkos time to pad stats. Zero time on PP and played PK!!! .. just scored in 3 straight games for team Canada .. not juniors .. big boys. He a star in making and 2nd line NHL center now but is still maybe 2 seasons away from 70 pts. .. he untouchable .. take Stamkos who only had 50 pts and zero plus minus outside of power play. POINT CIRELLI AND KADRI are my dream centers for Tampa and will win multiple cups.

Mostly FAs True Story
Not nearly enough from DET for CHI to trade down. Moving up (3) picks to inside the top 5...A HUGE haul will be required. I'm not suggesting DET should do it, but they should know it'll take an F ton more than this. Anthony Mantha is basically what you're suggesting. DET needed to give up pick #58 just to go from #20 to #18. What you're suggesting here is Pick #58 (Same exact pick ironically) to go from 6th OA to 3rd OA. It's just not close to realistic. Start thinking ALL THREE 2nds. AND I'm not sure that'll get it done to be honest.
***EDIT*** The closest comparable I can see is EITHER A.) Logan Couture (#9) for #13, #44, #87 OR B.) Luke Schenn (#5) for #7, #37, #68. BUT neither of those were for the #3OA.

Dubas caves and gives him $7M A YEAR, but Big Willie's never been above 61 points AND 26 this year with only 6 goals in 49 games....all while being on 2nd best offense in the league... I can see he has talent when he plays, but at some point he needs to start earning that $7M contract. He hasn't even sniff'd justifying a $5M contract let alone $7M.
